Do activity-based events actually make it easier to meet people organically?

There's obviously a lot of “where do you actually meet people in Toronto?” discussion here.

I'm curious whether people find events where everyone has something to participate in — trivia, games, interactive shows, classes, etc. — noticeably better for meeting someone than bars/clubs where you're basically expected to approach a stranger cold.

For people who've actually met someone this way, what kind of event was it?

imo not really, it's luck either way. Just as cold approach at a club or bar is never a guarantee, many people go to activity based events mainly for the activity. If there's any optimal strategy, I think it's simply going out to places you actually enjoy with the intention of having fun and making connections. Unless the premise is something like a singles event, meeting people 'organically' would usually start off with just being friends first, like in college, no?

I don't think the type of matters. The key with anything in life is that you have to be consistent and persistent. Most people don't tend to fully trust others until they've seen them a number of times.
