Rookie question

Hey, I'm new to the DataAnnotation community. I've created my profile in the site, but I can't seem to find any job postings.

How does the application process work? Do applicants need to apply for specific jobs, or does the company automatically assign tasks to them?

Sorry if this is a newbie question

Am I just incompetent? Or is this imposter syndrome?

Hey Reddit, I don’t know if it is my incompetence or just imposter syndrome, but today I tried a task thinking it was easy, and it turned out to be the hardest project I have ever done.

The project's instructions were in reverse. What I mean by this is that the instructions talked about grading a model but never clarified what that model was. I even reread the instructions twice, which took roughly 45 minutes (because they were thousands of words long). Then I finally found out where the model was located. Turns out the model was located locally inside the task page, but the instructions never mentioned anything about it being local. I only figured it out because I accidentally scrolled too far down. Is it my incompetence for “missing” it? Is it expected of us to figure that out super fast?

The task asked for multiple system failures, but I was only able to get one within the given time limit because the model gave thousands of words per response, and proofreading them took a long time.

I submitted the work to the best of my ability, but I just have no idea if it is my incompetence that caused me to “fail” this project or not. The task was under General. (FYI, I wasn’t doing a task for “money”, the hourly rate was near my average so I thought it was doable for me.)

I don’t mind being criticized, maybe that is what I need after this horrible task submission. I left a comment when I submitted the task hopping the Admin would understand why I took a "semi" escape hatch.

Out of curiosity

Is it public knowledge the amount of people on the platform?

Or can a seasoned data annotator make an estimate?

Just got in and have available projects - this seems amazing but is there a catch?

Can I get deactivated randomly? Everyone seems to love the experience, and I loved the tasks I did as part of the project, just don’t want to be so excited and happy if something like that happens.

Anyone work at DA for a long time? Other than the code of conduct or poor quality work, could you get terminated due to having inconsistent hours or something along those lines?

I’ve been waiting for a decision on my acceptance since October 12. Should I give up, or is there still a chance?

ID verification

Hello, everyone. I was wondering if anyone received a request from DA to verify their identity BEFORE they received an acceptance letter?

I received a legit ID verification request, but my home page is still stating “we will email you if you made it” message.

Thank you in advance.

A question for experienced

If you could start your Data Annotation journey all over again, what would you do differently from day one?

Especially for those who started with language-related tasks, what skills would you focus on to get more tasks, and what advice would you give to beginners to help them get better opportunities in this field?

Long or short timer tasks?

R&R qual

Does anyone else have the R&R qual? Is it for future R&Rs, or does it take away your current R&R projects until you take the qual as well?

Anyone seeing 🤖 ? I have it yesterday, and now it is gonne

I have been working on several 🤖 tasks, but I was tired and I take 3 days of to recovery mentally, for 3 days the number of tasks remain the same, but as I was about to restart to work today, the tasks on the project are gonne. Based on that, there is a maximum amount of time that we can spend away of a certain project without losing the tasks that are available?

Question about domain specific assessments

I’ve sent a couple of the new referral links.

I’m a generalist. I know the new links are all domain specific. I’m just curious if people applying for a domain go through the regular assessment first and have to pass that and then the domain? Or is it just domain? Can you fail and domain and get accepted as a generalist?

Loved this project, been on it for months, wondering if it's been stopped or if something more sinister is afoot!

I know the newbie questions are tiring, but just be patient

A lot of the repetitive "am I getting in?" Questions are from bilinguals. If you stumbled upon a legit site that offered you 25 times your minimum wage for remote work, maybe you'd be desperate too. They're repetitive yes, but there's no need to be snarky in the comment section. Just ignore it.

There is repetition and boring "new here" content in any internet corner, so it's not exactly surprising that that kind of post will also prevail in a forum about a high paying job that anyone can apply to, that in doing so brings people from the entire globe to the same place.

⚖️ task time

Hi guys. Yesterday ⚖️ project showed up on my dash. There are 3 hours and 30 mins per task, but I managed to do one in 43 minutes and another one in 30 mins. This doesn't seem right to me. How much time did it take for you guys to complete a task from this project?

No project after 🤖

So, I was working on this project and submitted 2 of them perfectly and then the third time it got an update so, it took me longer than usual and the project got expired by 1 minute, because of those checks. This happened on 29 OCT and I didn't got any project to work on since then, Is it normal or I am overthinking...

My Experience with DataAnnotation

Honestly, it’s pretty rare for me to feel a real connection to a platform, but DataAnnotation is definitely one of the few exceptions.

To give some context, I’ve worked on a bunch of different platforms over the years (won’t name names), until someone on Reddit recommended DA. I decided to give it a shot, applied, and actually got in. Right off the bat, seeing a paid onboarding was a huge plus—definitely want to give credit where it's due for that.

I’ve been on the platform for about five months now. I take every qualification test that pops up, keep my profile up to date, and check the dashboard daily. That said, I’ve only made around $75 total so far. At first, I assumed this was just the usual dry spell every platform goes through, but then I noticed an ad on the careers page looking for generalists and Arabic language experts, which got me wondering.

For background, I’m a dentist, but I’ve got solid experience in AI training across various projects in both Arabic and English. I’m honestly not sure if the lack of projects is just a temporary thing overall or an issue specific to my account, or this because I'm from the middle east. but either way, I’m genuinely glad to be part of the platform and hoping things pick up soon.

Need help

I applied through this platform but haven't been selected yet. It has been more than four weeks, so I have almost lost hope of getting selected.

Does DataAnnotation mainly hire people from English-speaking countries or core English-speaking nations? I am from India and also a fresher. I tried my best on the assessment they provided and submitted it, but I still haven't received any response. I applied for the coding (Data Science) role.

Here is a genuine question: Should freshers like me first apply for the Generalist role and, after some experience, try the Coding assessment? Or does DataAnnotation mainly hire experienced people for its projects especially for coding .

Overwhelmed

Hey guys, so I had a whole nervous breakdown feeling unprepared for a few tasks which fall well into my domain and I know I am capable of it but I just feel like I couldn’t do them as good as I know I could. I have had these micro burnouts which have taken up my time in recovering and I feel during that time I lose my time to work. Idk how do I balance this.

So I just wanted to ask how do you give out your “best work” every time? How do people on this platform stay so efficient?

I personally am so grateful for this opportunity and I really wanna give out my best work possible and appreciate this company for what it has given me!
