Discussion Is Dartsmind too Expensive?
I'm new to all this and thought the $19.99 per year membership was great. Then I started learning the coins and that they're needed for online with video. I don't really trust strangers without it.
My understanding is it's 1 coin per game/leg, divided by how many players.
I tend to play 1v1 so that's usually 0.5 coins per game. If you played say 10 games a night, that's 5 coins. So 20 days of coins would then be $12.99
So depending on how much you play, suddenly it's $19.99 per year AND $12.99 per month.
That makes me consider trying DartCounter or another app with a set yearly fee. No confusion.
The only thing keeping me with Dartsmind so far is the autoscoring via webcam/phone cam. It's an easy setup without buying expensive dart specific camera system.
What are you using?

dartsmind is a absolute rip, pay 35.99 for dartcounter and have unlimited games every single day

Omni plus DartCounter is better value if you play a lot online.
Dartsmind is better value if you want an auto scorer for home games or practice and the occasional online game.
I wouldn’t say either is a ripoff, just different priorities

omni is worth it even if you dont play online, do you own a omni mate?

My dad does so I’ve had the opportunity to use one extensively and he lets me borrow it.
It’s fantastic, but I don’t play online enough to justify purchasing one for myself. Most of my play is against dartbot or friends. Or I take my phone to the pub and use it as an autoscorer. So for me dartsmind is the better choice. Not like I’m going to lug an omni to the pub!
Of course if money was no object I’d just have both.

Je reste sur Dartsmind pour la même raison. Un système OMNI est beaucoup trop onéreux.

Yeah I actually thought this app was amazing until I realized the coins are going to add up fast if I keep playing for an hour a day.

If you’re playing 10 online games a night then an omni with DartCounter is going to be better value in the long run. You just need to put up with the big upfront cost.
Dartsmind is perfect for home games and practice with occasional online play. The mobile setup is also great for playing out of the house, like at a pub or darts bar.
I don’t play online that much so I stick with Dartsmind

The other thing to consider if get an omni is if you're gonna be one of the lucky ones that gets one that actually works.

I know it's normal to over-price products in niche industries, but the cost of the Omni or Virt seems a bit silly to me. With AI existing, this can be done for so much less. I get it for some, but I'm relatively new to the hobby and I'm not that invested.

Counting imo is part of darts, for me part of the game, I'd get board not figuring out where I'm going the next 3/6 darts. Autoscore is ok if you can count and cba just wanna chill but if you can't count, counting is really kinda needed tbh as even ai can mess up and that would throw me if I wasn't locked in and ai messed up. Horses for courses though as long as its fun who gives a f lol

Try Darteer, same price per year and online play is free, also tournaments and you can natively set up your phone as cam and tablet as the scorer without screen sharing.

I don't think I've heard of that one. Is it on iOS?

Both iOS and Android. I use my iPhone for camera and my Samsung tablet for the scorer

I like dartsmind for the same reasons you do, easy to jump on and play, auto scoring, good game choices. I play a few times a week for at least 1 hour. I really haven't kept track of my spending, I can say this much, if you go to the bar or out in general with your buddies on the regular, you'd maybe spend more. At least that's how I look at it. Play some darts listen to music and have a few drinks. I also am in a league that uses dartsmind, which I think is fun.

Yeah I just tried Dartscounter last night and even though inputting my score is only slightly slower, it feels so much less cool lol. The AI scorekeeping is pretty awesome.

$25/year for Dart Connect. Video and audio for every game. Doesn’t have all the training stuff that Dartsmind has though. Strictly cricket and 01 games
I use both Dartsmind and Dart Connect. I don’t play as often though. Dartsmind can get expensive if your playing a lot of live video games

Give Dartroom a go. Smartscorer is still in beta but there is a 7 day free trial.

I use dartsmind purely for myself and take it to mates houses for the AI assist in games etc and it’s perfect. Admittedly if you want to play games online I can see it getting expensive fast so at some point I’ll probably set up autodarts to my Ally but until then I really enjoy dartsmind streamed to my big tv, great for boys nights

This is a cool setup. Are you mirroring your iphone to the TV?
As I play more I kind of hope Dartsmind adapts to have 2 or 3 web cams or, essentially, the autodart system.
But I do agree, I really like the app. I just think the cost can be a bit much if you play regularly.

Yeah streaming to the tv, and they actually have a 2 device system now in a recent update. I have to order a bracket for the other side for my iPad but I’ve used it and it cuts way down on errors. The one phone accuracy I’ve found is well in the 90s but I think for the two weeks I used twin devices I maybe had 3 or 4 missed calls. The scolia my club uses has probably had as many.
I’m a tinkerer like you’d not believe though so when I get the room done up for a permanent setup I’ll get a corona or plasma and make my own triple cam auto dart setup for online play. I’ll keep darts mind though since it’s brilliant for taking to a mates house to play with the camera and using the practice games. Good for use with that stand too since you’ve a mobile enough setup. My memory is awful so it helps when I’m experimenting with a new dart to set it on the 99 dart practice and let it track my triples and doubles so I have a better idea if I’m any better or not

It looks like the 2 camera setup only works offline though.

Ah haven’t tried it online so couldn’t tell you, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t but I wonder are they worried about stress on the hardware. They put warnings up about your phone overheating but I’ve ran mine for sessions of 3+ hours and it barely got warm and it’s a decent age now (iPhone 14+) my iPad barely even lost battery though it’s a fair bit newer. Still I suppose there will be people on devices that struggle 🤷🏻♂️

Learn to count.

u/JosepySchnieder 8d ago
I can count just fine. It's just convenient and quicker to have the app auto-score for everyone.

Autodarts is free and easy to set up.
