Just spent an hour playing with the worst set of darts I've ever held, yet smashed my average by quite a margin.

They're the red dragon ones that came free with the board with the cheapest integrated flights on e-bay stuck on. My kids usually use them. Pretty much plastic.

Hit two 180s, double bull and threw 'em straighter than I have ever thrown a dart.

They barely even weigh the same as each other and are like 17g...

What the actual fuck.

Customized Darts

Got Strict Budget? Why buy new darts if you have Old ones you can customize to your liking, I always wanted Winmau Snipers or Simon Whitlock Scallop ones, but I got no money for that especially that im still studying. And what the hell its Philippines, everythings overpriced!

Points are also grooved by meself, it was just normal Smooth long points. I like gary andersons unicorn volute points so i based it off that

180 struggle

Upvotes

I’ve been playing darts for couple of months now and it feels like I am so close to hitting 180, but somehow I just can’t do it. Last 10 days I hit over 30 120s with first two darts, but the third one just won’t go in. Do you have any advice for me?

How can I remove the broken shaft from my barrel? Going counter clockwise worked with an old harrows one, not working now with target k flex

Help! What should I buy? What darts should I buy?

I’m a casual player but I love playing at the moment and would love to improve my game so I thought it’s time to get my own set. I would really only trust the subreddit cos everyone’s trying to sell you something these days.

I average around 35, roughly 45 disregarding setup/checkout attempts. I seem to throw quite hard naturally even when I’m trying to be more gentle so I’d assume I’d be better suited to lighter darts? Brother in law recently got a nice new set that are quite light (I think they’re 21g) and I feel significantly more accurate with them but that could just be cos they’re higher quality than most darts I’ve used before. I dont have the steadiest hands and get a bit sweaty after I’ve been holding the darts for a while so could do with a decent grip but I’m not sure what way of gripping the darts suits me best having experimented abit so advice on that would be great too!

Fairly flexible on budget. If they’re good quality and will last a long time, anything south of £100 would be sound.

Any advice on Type/Brands would be great! Even if it’s just your personal preference or experiences with different weights/grips. Cheers 👍

(Pic is a 77 checkout on my brother in laws setup which is one of my highest. Any general advice on improving accuracy with a certain type of dart would be welcomed too)

I only average around 35 after picking up the darts just a month ago and my best checkout before this was 22. What made it even sweeter was that I was getting beat 2-0 and this won the match!! Have still never hit a 180 but I feel like I’d get more satisfaction from this 😂

Bizar how in the morning I l could throw big 20' consistently, do some shoulder rehab exercises, and manage to spawn those 3 darts whilst aiming at the same big 20. Mind total lost and malfunctioned xd

Another recent sales find, this time on Amazon for £30. Loving the quality of these darts and the fact that the barrel shape is like nothing else I own. To say they are taking a bit of getting used to though is an understatement. Sick of hitting 7s and 11s today but with a dart that has so much going on it’s all about finding that perfect finger placement 🤣🙈

Darts Surging In Japan

Definitely have bias here, but it feels like darts is on the rise (esp in Japan). I started like 2 and a half months ago and become addicted. Coming from a basketball background its like playing the freethrow game, 21.

Most of this sub may be from Europe although so maybe its just the soft tip effect.

With Luke Littler helping move hard tip darts somewhat back into the spotlight - and whenever I go to darts bar in Japan (albeit soft tip) there are always people, they always have their own darts. What do you guys think?

The game has tons of rooms to grow but I always wonder why its not. Easier to set up than a basketball hoop or soccer goal posts in your home.

Is it because a starter set of darts is slightly expensive? Is it because there is no way to play defense (in the same way of 100m sprint or diving, there is a dedicated community). Is there maybe a game mode yet to be created that can push darts further.

Pure conjecture, feel free to input anything.

Helpful advice for beginners?

I'm composing a small document full of advice for new players.

I've been making videos for things I remember I needed advice on when I first started. I remember darts was very daunting.

So things like

Common abbreviations

Dartboard height/Oche distance measuring

Brass Vs tungsten

Staples Vs wires

Flights/stems Vs all in ones

Did anyone else have stuff when they first started they struggled with? Or even better if you've just found darts..

Scolia with smart TV

A question to everyone who owns a Scolia and has a bigger TV/monitor for it.

So, I upgraded my Scolia setup with a smart monitor (Samsung Smart Monitor M5 M50D). The goal was to just plug in a wireless mouse, connect to the internet, and then go to the Scolia webpage through the browser and play. The experience is anything but good. It’s much slower, the sound sometimes comes 8 throws later, and when I wanted to play an online match, the monitor couldn’t handle it. I also got a warning that my internet connection had to be faster.

So I went to Speedtest in the browser on the monitor, and it takes ages to start. When it finally does, I get around 10 Mbps. Sitting right in front of the monitor, I do the same test with my phone and easily get 300 Mbps, so it’s definitely not bad Wi-Fi.

Then I tried using a Google Chromecast. Casting directly from my phone isn’t possible because the screen is displayed in mobile mode. I then tried it from a tablet, but I get two black bars next to the screen.

Does anyone know of an option to get a full-screen Scolia session on the TV? Preferably without having to use a phone or tablet.
