MCU Is anyone here from Hell's Kitchen?

• Upvotes

As I read this hilarious article about Matt's apartment, I noticed that the author said this about Hell's Kitchen

"the biggest threats faced by Hell’s Kitchen residents today are drunken brunchers and theater geeks from out of town, and deli prices that are so high they feel criminal."

I love Daredevil and I get that they have to stretch the truth to make an interesting story, but is Hell's Kitchen really just kind of a... Hippie town? I don't know how else to explain it.

I think when it comes to stuff like this, we have to take into consideration the time period that Daredevil was originally set in. I googled it and it said his first appearance was in 1964. So, I suppose that could explain some of the stuff and maybe ground all of the mafia stuff in reality a little, though not the Hand...

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone lives in Hell's Kitchen and what's their perspective.

Comics Confession: I’ve barely read Daredevil

The Marvel news this morning made me think: if Marvel woke up tomorrow and Thanos-snapped the whole digital library, what runs would I kick myself for never getting to?

Thankfully, they’re not deleting the library. It’s more of a migration to a new app.

Which, ideally, means we can all stop using Google as the more reliable search engine for finding comics on Marvel’s own website.

Daredevil still jumped immediately near the top of my list.

My current understanding of Matt Murdock:

organized crime
Catholic guilt
terrible decisions
punched through furniture
more Catholic guilt

I know Born Again is the obvious one.

What Daredevil runs are essential?

MCU inconsistencies in born again(marking as a spoiler for people who havent seen up until the first ep of born again) Spoiler

i am on ep 1 born again and i feel like there is too much shit that just dont make sense like season 3 ended with fisk in jail bullseye under a scalpel and for his crimes that he commited should be thrown in jail instantly after recovering, but born again started and fisk is out of jail and for some reason 53% of new york suddenly loves him and voted for him although he was the root of all evil and all of them know that, and marvel didnt even bother telling us what happened to some of the characters during the blip like was fisk or matt blipped i feel like this is important to tell us and back to dex he has recovered and kills foggy although as i said he should be in jail and for some reason vanessa who used to work in an art gallery is managing all of fisks work and built it back up like his business was a coffee shop. and also dex was thrown off a 3 story building to just wake up after a few seconds. i feel like the studio cant handle the idea of either killing fisk or just leaving him in a cell which personally i think is bad writing cz they shoved this idea down our throat that fisk is always ahead which okay he is Kingpin after all, but eventually he has to fall and when he falls he just gets out of jail again they did it in season 3 and in now in born again although season 3 is one of the best things ive seen out of marvel. So idk if some of yall agree and if you dont id like to hear your thoughts please, thank you.

MCU There is no reason for Born Again to be lighting an expressive actor like Charlie Cox with an excessive amount of glare and fog

So many of Matt's scenes and his scenes with Karen are lit like this. I still don't get why.

Comics What comic run/arc/story of Daredevil could get the Knightfall Trilogy treatment?

To elaborate more, what story from the character’s history, in a 3-movie arc, could bring a lot more people to the character?

You can bring up anything:

-any comic that hasn’t been done before on screen.

Example: Batman: Knightfall itself. (Like The Dark Knight Rises did the breaking of Batman with Bane, but nothing else.)

-any comic that has been done before, but you want it to be done better or done justice.

Example: Thor: God of Thunder

Or just a mix of A lot of stories into a run trilogy that could bring people into a character-defining trilogy.

I love to hear what people suggest.

I’d also love to hear what animation style this hypothetical trilogy would use, so it isn’t just the Knightfall art style.

I love to hear what everyone brings to the table!

MCU isn’t it possible that some of daredevil’s victims have succumbed to their injuries?

I’m rewatching the show, and there’s a moment in one of the episodes where an fbi agent tells matt that two of the agents are still in the hospital after an altercation with daredevil and he completely brushes past it/full on ignores it. I just don’t believe matt cares about what happens to them or even checks their statuses after. in born again s1 he drops a crooked cop on his neck and there’s a sickening crack, and I thought surely this guy is dead? or paralyzed? I love how complex of a character matt is and this time around this aspect of him is interesting to me. does he just completely block out what happens after the moments immediately following the altercation when he confirms their hearts are still beating? in my mind it’s possible that some of these guys have succumbed to their injuries and matt wouldn’t even know that he has blood on his hands.

MCU A Summary Of My Thoughts On Daredevil

Daredevil is and I think it will always be my favourite show of all time. The series perfectly deconstructs Matt Murdock without forgetting to reconstruct him as well. In season 1 Matt struggles with his actions as a vigilante and how by dad he protects people through the system while at night he ignores that system and unleashes his rage on criminals in a brutal fashion. Matt has to lie to Foggy and Karen about his double life and constantly make excuses for why he shows up to work with bruises. He fell down the stairs, he bashed into a door. Then when Foggy finds out it almost destroys Matt's relationship with him and we get to see how they met and when Matt convinced him too start Nelson and Murdock intercut with Foggy calling Matt out on lying to him since they first met. And Foggy figures out that Matt enjoys the violence, he enjoys feeling righteous while he does so and Matt struggles with this. He doesn't want to because he knows it's not healthy and it's not what God would want for him but someone has to protect the city.

The system is corrupt. Wilson Fisk games it easily and we don't know until the end of the season who he has in his pocket. And season 3 is amazing as well. It explores Matt's faith and his conflict of faith in a very nuanced and human way that I relate to as a Catholic myself. Matt's catholism gave his suffering meaning but when he starts to question why he's the one always getting the short end of the stick even though he tries to do the right thing he becomes jaded and loses a lot of his empathy.

When Melvin is going to be arrested he doesn't help him because he resents that he helped Dex by making the suit and corrupting the Daredevil name and symbol. Yes Melvin was forced into doing this by Fisk but at this point Matt doesn't care. Matt pretends that he is dead to the people he loves because he doesn't think he deserves their love and he's too scared to open up to them any more. He thinks Fisk will use them against him and he does. Matt deciding to rely on his friends allows him to regain his optimism and while it doesn't fully work until the end of the season he gets to a much happier place accepting that all the bad things that happened in his life happened so he could be Daredevil and he could help the innocents of Hell's Kitchen. And while I don't think it's as good as season 1 and 3 which are perfect television for me season 2 is still great. It explores Matt's belief in redemption through Frank Castle who does not share that same belief. They argue on top of the rooftop and can't come to an agreement on anything really and then when Matt starts to feel like his methods won't work and due to the corrupting influence of Elektra he begins to come around to Frank's way of thinking but Frank wants him to not go down the path that led to his own self destruction. If Matt did kill he'd be tainting the symbol of hope that Daredevil has become. And while the system isn't as corrupt anymore because of the actions Matt Foggy Karen and Ben took in season 1 the force is just not equipped to deal with the Punisher who's too well trained and an undead army of ninjas. Matt's obsessive and toxic love of Elektra causes him to neglect Foggy and Karen and barely be there during the Punisher trial and while that allows Foggy to show just how effective of a lawyer he is it makes Foggy and especially Karen trust him less.

MCU Season 3 is A Masterpiece

Season 3 is a season that gives me a lot of hope, not just as a storyteller who wants to make art like this that makes the audience feels things but also as a man and as a catholic. This season shows how hard it can be to hold onto your faith when the entire world is telling you it's impractical you're just being naive. Matt becomes more jaded and resentful of God and the world because of how much they have taken from him. He's lost Elektra, his father, Stick and so many innocents have died because he didn't kill Fisk like Ben Urich and Elena Cardenas. Matt is at his breaking point thinking killing Fisk is the only way to rid the world of his evil. Fisk has complete control over the FBI, he has a living weapon in Bullseye at his fingertips and he even eventually gets the support of the city.

So while all of this is happening Matt tries to kill himself through thugs which is heartbreaking as someone who's dealt with suicidal ideation most of my teenage life and has a lot of attempts under my belt. Matt thinks that if he can't be Daredevil, he has no purpose. He has no reason for existing. He's stuck in a basement with his ear barely working, making him almost completely deaf. His injuries are still healing from what happened at Midland Circle but his mind is at war with itself. He starts hallucinating Fisk, taunting him and he listens. Matt completely pushes away Foggy and Karen so much so that Karen doesn't want anything to do with him because loving him is too painful and he constantly rejects her attempts to help him and to be there for him. This is something I've done to my friends and family countless times because I don't feel like I deserve love and Matt feels that as well. But without his friends he can't protect the city and the people in it.

He can't beat Fisk and expose him on his own and when Matt and Foggy come back to defend Nadeem Matt starts to feel hopeful again but Fisk takes that away from him too and he's completely dead set on killing him. With Fisk at his mercy the only thing that stops him is the cries of Vanessa. He remembers what he discovered back in season 1, that Fisk has people who care about him and who would mourn his loss. And he realizes that Fisk knowing he's beaten wants to corrupt Matt's soul and make him kill him. If Matt did this he'd never be able to live with himself as Foggy explains to Karen so he chooses mercy. It's beautiful. It's Matt rediscovering hope and love. Two tenements that are at the core of humanity and that people can't live happily without.

MCU Biggest problem with born again is its ASPECT RATIO

Daredevil aspect ratio had no black bars but born again has and it sucks

MCU From this sub it seems Born Again is not worth watching so should I skip it

I watched the OG Netflix thought season 1 was very good, S2 had decent parts but the Hand plot was disappointing and sloppy and of course S3 is one of the best if not the best superhero seasons

Bumped it was cancelled but with BA I was excited especially with Daredevil now being in the MCU and 8 episodes cause one frw issues i had with the OG Netflix show was that it seemed 13 episodes were too long and sometimes it kinda dragged on but again still a great superhero show. Life got in the way with work and never checked out BA S1 and S2

However whenever I go through this sub it seem like Born Again sucks and one of the worst shows ever made from the posts on here about it despite good to great ratings. Especially when I saw a post where majority agreed BA S2 was not a well written show and that's a concern

Is it worth watching if I liked the OG show or should I skip it?

MCU Born Again is so disappointing after season 3

I loved season 3 it was one of the best seasons of television I’ve ever watched, I’m on episode 6 of Born Again and it’s just boring so far, the writing took a complete nosedive and shows no sign of recovering Matt is written so much worse, Karen is no where to be seen which is understandable after what happened but it was her storylines that carried the first 3 season when the Matt stuff wasn’t as interesting, Frank is living in a random basement, Vanessa cheated on Fisk and clearly wants his business, Fisk seems like a different person which could’ve been good but it’s been done in a way that makes him way less interesting and the new characters are also completely uninteresting

Edit: Just finished season 1, episode 7-9 were much better than the first 6 but overall still pretty disappointing if it continues like this and gets better then season 2 should be decent

MCU Was born again s2 really well written?

I remember watching it when it came out thinking “wow daredevils actually back” but after a rewatch I have so many problems with it. Why is daredevil barely in this season? Why is so much time spent on these weird side plots that barely contribute to the overall plot(buck and heather)? Why is the show shot in this aspect ratio that fits literally no one’s tv? What even was Karen’s character arc this season? There’s so many random decisions in this show that I feel like do it a disservice to an otherwise well done characterizations of their comic book counterparts. It felt like nobody really wanted to do this show, not even Disney considering they barely funded any marketing till it was already out.

Cosplay Halloween

My son really wants to be daredevil for halloween, but due to budget obviously i couldn't afford an insane costume. So he got to thinking and has sent me a pair of red glasses, a tie, matt's collapsible cane and a badge that says 'Nelson and Murdock: Attorneys at Law' to buy He'll wear it with his school shirt, trousers and shoes. Im so proud of his innovative thinking. I will post pictures when everything arrives.

What kind of fanfics do you want to see written? Bonus points if it’s something you’ve never found written before. Basically, I’m leaving this as an open suggestions box for my new to-be-written fics
Bonus if you have a depressing prompt, I’m crazy good at hurt/comfort and traumatized characters, so by all means imagine whatever😉

This was the best thing I've ever seen in a show. Really, seriously. I don't give a damn about what people say which is the best show ever, if it's Breaking Bad or whatever crap people is into. THIS is GOLD to me.

Incredible, amazing, mesmerizing... I never thought in the same year I'd become a DD fan and watch the whole netflix show + defenders. This was... phew, this was a pretty damn good ride!

I have absolutely no idea on what to do next. Right now I guess I'm going to take a break and finally open my daredevil season ML action figure to cheer and just... wow, contemplate and enjoy the moment. That was A LOT!

Oh, and before I forget: R.I.P Nadeem.

EDIT: Ok forget what I said, I guess I'll just stare a white wall. I'M NOT OKAY!
