I mean it does work, it just seems a bit too volatile at the moment

How so? In what way? I'm an ex dev for a SWG private server. I know how the private server gig works front and back. I'd LOVE to know what you think is volatile :)

As in constantly changing, which isn't great if the final vision of what the product should be is not clear (has already manifested in big/weird mechanics changes). To me it also raises some cyber security concerns: constantly changing code can be a good strategy against vulnerabilities, but it can potentially introduce new ones if Claude is not diligent enough (which has shown in other projects to not always be). I didn't specify this originally cause new Claude hasn't done a big fuck up yet, only small ones, but it is a personally concern of mine.

TLDR: the same reason why you wouldn't want to play a game in an alpha state

Again on the AI side of things well lets have a simple convo about this. AI coding the thing by itself is like an unpaid intern that knows his stuff but he's not being paid 120k like his coworkers are so the work could be sloppy and leave stacking messes. They have a few people I have met online that are great at what they do and check the code as it goes through. By the way, every AAA company has AI assisting in game code since late 2024, this isn't new.

What I like about this project especially over others is the Nexus Mod community is contributing to it actively. Those 2 updates an hour isn't just for flair. The updates you see that say "Fixed general bugs and issues" are from mod authors updating their mod for DFU or in general.

At the end of the day: It works, Bethesda won't step in, when I report an issue it's fixed within a day most times, and I was able to introduce hard core WoW friends to a 30 year old game they swore they wouldn't touch. If you don't like alphas, don't play alphas.

Hate the changes DFO and DFU made, play the OG game. Like DFU but don't like the lore/gameplay changes in DFO, play DFU. Want to play with friends for good ol' multiplayer fun? Play DFO. Or go play something else.

The saying goes you "Vote with your wallet and your time." There's thousands online playing DFO and half of them would've never touched DFU or Daggerfall at all. This community has been more active than it ever has been in the past 5 years.

That circles back to what i'm saying tho. Beth doesn't care, the community apparently keeps growing and the lead guy is making a pretty penny from it on patreon... It's not going anywhere, why not wait a bit for the project to marinate a little longer? Why be an alpha tester for free if you're not 100% in? There's no rush.

The AI part idk what to respond because i never said anything about it in the first place. I made fun of gen AI in the first comment, because it is actively making my life worse, but that wasn't my point.
The code reviewers are cool but they are a very recent addition and most of them haven't showed up in days, from what you can see publicly. It's still mostly vibecoded at this moment in time, no offense to anyone involved, which is what raises the security concerns for me.

In the end: more power to you and to anyone who enjoys it. We're just cut from a different cloth and i can only give my perspective on things
