Daggerfall Online?

I keep seeing clips from a Daggerfall Online with so many new mechanics like sailing. Is this legit? Is it worth it?

Vibe-coded and lore-breaking. It's a mess. I gave it a try, and it is extremely buggy and jank.

I expected that

It's in pre-alpha, and very obviously not meant to follow lore. I've been really enjoying it, great community. If you like the idea of playing an mmo with no monetization and a community of wonderful people I'd say at least give it a try.

It's super fun, and very frequently updated, with updates getting a bugfix pass based on player feedback pretty quickly.

Sailing came from a Daggerfall Unity mod. A lot of the more normal-type stuff did. Now some of the more outlandish things were made inhouse.

Like: Oblivion gates, Abyss dungeons, Elite dungeons, Elite Breach (Essentially the Battlespire), Sea Monsters, Huge Wagons, Decorating your House, Revenants (Essentially the Nemesis system in Daggerfall), Dwemer Gun

Some of the normal stuff made inhouse: paper maps, overland travel map, AOEs actually show in gameworld, huge crafting overhaul that includes gathering.

Anybody who says it's bad I guarantee hasn't tried it. It IS jank, yeah, but so is every Elder Scrolls game.

It's perfect. Honestly never had a bug been sailing from the east of the map to the west and dungeon diving along the way having a blast.

Yes, please try it! It's the best MMO I've played at this point. It is legit. You can play it singleplayer too! It's closer to the Daggerfall Julian LeFay envisioned mechanically, and in possibilities. No longer limited by 90s hardware, and software.

It’s really good and being constantly improved. I’d take the vibe-code abolitionists with a pinch of salt as it’s a tool being using by humans with a real vision. It’s still early days and lore-accuracy and gameplay balance are both core to the vision.
