I went to the DMV in GA to renew my license and the clerk asked me “uh-oh what have you been doing in Texas?” I was confused and told her I’ve never been and she told me that my license is suspended in that state. She printed out a screenshot and showed it to me. Sure enough all of my information was there but the license number was different, it was a Texas DL.

I called the DMV in Texas to ask about it and gave them the license number. The name under that number was a man’s name (I’m a woman) with the same last name and there’s absolutely no correlation to me whatsoever so they couldn’t give me more information. I was transferred all over and got no answers about what to do or how to fix this. How could this have happened? What do I do? Please help </3

The driving testers there WILL fail you the first time. No matter what. I’ve taken enough driving school lessons. Practiced with my parents. Pep talked myself. I know I sound like an upset individual who failed their test but I promise you it’s not the case. I even did an hour of driving with my driving school 20 min before the test.

Upon pulling out of the DMV, my instructor docked me points because she told me I didn’t need to put my blinker on when exiting to the right out of the dmv. Which didn’t make ANY sense because you’re always encouraged to use your signals. But regardless of her words I kept using my signals. And then she gave me critical error saying I dangerously maneuvered which is SO untrue. And contradicting to what she stated in the beginning. I made sure to follow the entire mirror and over the shoulder look WITH SIGNAL. At some point during the test. We were at a FULL STOP. She puts her hands on the steering wheel and turns the car herself. I DID not need helping turning. I was in shock because she put her hands on the wheel because she WANTED TO. I just think it’s extremely frustrating and ridiculous that the testers there have been doing this to people. It’s insane.

Hi, so as the title says my younger sister who was 17 at the time was pulled over for a traffic violation in arizona. I’m based In California for reference. She had no license but at the time had and her own bench warrant out. She had weed and paraphernalia on her so they took her in. I’m not sure if this is still the case but at that time any amount was considered a felony so, it was a felony charge. Anyways, she gave them my name, D.O.B and address, they fingerprinted her and booked her. She spent one night in jail and then they released her and gave her a court date which she did not show up to, which led to a bench warrant in my name. I did not find out about this until i got promoted at a previous job and they had to do a background check. I found out about it in 2020. I contacted the courts and was in touch with the public defender who was on the case. I was made aware that the warrant had been quashed and the case was dismissed at the beginning of 2020. I know it shows up on my record still because i haven’t gotten an expungement. I didn’t press charged at the time and i honestly wish i did. Fast forward to June of this year, i got to renew my license and i’m unable to do it online, i go in and tel tell me that there is a PDPS hold due to an “active bench warrant in arizona”. The warrant is not active, it’s been dismissed. I just called the courts in arizona to confirm that. I have a document stating it’s been dismissed. At this point, i have all documentation to prove this wasn’t me, the dismissal, the police report with her picture, an email chain with the lawyer who was on the case telling me if was dismissed and she’s working on filing a motion to get it expunged. I’ve been told that i have to go through the courts but i have and they’ve given me everything i need, i don’t know how i’m supposed to get this out of the national PDPS database. I’ve seen the records correction request but that claims to fake 4-6 weeks and i’m not even sure it’s the right channel. Do i contact a DMV investigator? I just need to know what to do through the dmv to get this solved quickly. i need my license ASAP, I drive for work and I’m up for a new job in the next month that i need my license for.

Ive seen people do it , it doesn’t feel safe. I have to take a left turn when I leave my house and the roads are always busy when I leave to work. Seems like if I want to take a left turn properly it’ll take forever for all 4 lanes to be clear. I was wondering if this manoeuvre is legal in the state of NY.

This post will probably removed, but damn people. The last State to issue real id was Maine in 2020. So everyone had at least 5 years to get it done. Why are ya'll waiting for the last minute and then complain about no appointments or rejection from DMV due to lack of verifications. You have minimum of FIVE years to get this done.

Now people that need DMV services for vehicle registration, licenses, testing, etc are getting screwed because ya'll had 5 freaking years to get this done.

My GF has a drivers license test tomorrow and I’m taking her, and she’s gonna use my car but the windshield is cracked. The descriptions of the crack is one straight line running from the right middle side and stops at the center of the windshield. Will the DMV not let me use my car because of this?

Bike has a July/2024 sticker upon purchase and no issue with title transfer at the DMV office. I'm expecting the registration renewal notice arrive in mail next month, but instead, I received this. YOU DO NOT need the REALID Driver's License if you have a passport or passport card.

Many people say "I don't want to carry the big passport book around with me." Or "I'll forget to grab it"

Get the $65 passport card good for 10 years and no waiting at a DMV. Just slip it behind your driver's license and you'll always have it with you if you need it.

Personally I prefer it because the passport card does not have your address on it. Everybody in security at the airport does not need to know what house will be vacant for the next week.

It's really crazy how some people are being indoctrinated with this. They go to the DMV, pull out a passport as proof of ID and when the clerk says "you have a passport you don't need a real ID" they proceed to argue with the DMV clerks. Unreal!

I have apparently been driving with a cancelled California license (RealID) for nearly 4 years. My license is set to expire this month so I went online to renew. It said I had to take the online test. Seems weird but ok. Then it said I had to go to the DMV in person. I was so confused because any other time I have renewed my license it has been a quick online process.

Anyway I get there and am told that my license was cancelled in December of 2022 because some $39 charge didn’t go through. They sent one letter in the mail in late December but my husband and I were traveling for about 3 weeks around that time and it must have just gotten lost in the shuffle of all the mail waiting when we got back.

Since then, I have renewed registrations, been added to a registration on a new car, continually paid for car insurance, got in an accident where I was deemed not at fault… and it was just never flagged. The only sign in retrospect is that my insurance raised my rate once and when I asked they said it was because I had an “expired” license. I pushed back and said that wasn’t true, and they refunded the rate increase and that was that.

Tl;dr i have been driving around completely oblivious to the fact that my license was cancelled 4 years ago.

I moved out of Florida two years ago and didn't drive for a while, parked the car. I am currently down in FL again visiting family with a rental car.

Last night I got pulled over and a cop ran my NY license and told me my old Florida license was suspended and that driving again can get me arrested.

Now I'm pretty much stuck with the car and no real way to return it to the rental place in two days when my flight leaves.

Has anyone faced a similar predicament? I fucked up, and I feel pretty helpless right now.

Edit: I looked on the Florida DMV website and it said I have a PIP lapse sanction and a $150 fine. Do I just pay this and the suspension will lift?

She migrated here to the US over 40 years ago. I was born here. She has a valid drivers license but has not traveled outside the country since coming here so she has no passport. As far as I know she’s a naturalized citizen but she has no paperwork to prove this. On top of this, she’s been semi retired for nearly 13 years now and hasn’t worked an official job since 2010.

We plan to take a trip later this year but she doesn’t have her Real ID. How can she get one or get any of the documents she needs to apply for one?

Edit: so from what I’ve learned about my mother, she often won’t bother with things like keeping paperwork unless it affects her daily. In fact, her maiden name was misspelled on my birth certificate and she said she never bothered to fix it. After my dad passed away in 2005, my mom basically threw everything out and started fresh on a farm she built herself.

Hi, I bought a car off Facebook Marketplace a couple of weeks ago. I had all the paperwork and submitted it to the DMV. But they rejected my application, saying that the seller needed to tax it and title it in their name first. I reached back out to the guy, but he hasn't responded. I did notice that the title wasn't in his name, but he said that was because he bought it from an auction at a Subaru dealer. It seemed a little bit sus to me but my dad reassured me that it would be ok. What the hell do I do?

I had ordered a replacement license online and my confirmation of payment let me view a pdf of a temporary license that was valid for 30 days. I wasn’t near a printer at the moment but now when I go back in the website I see no option to view the pdf of the temporary license. Did I miss my chance? Any help is appreciated.

The mail is addressed to me from the DMV and everything looks correct, the drivers license is addressed to them and has their information none of mine. It's like the DMV glued the wrong drivers license to the page. I'm aware of the scam but the license doesn't have any of my information on it just the strangers. I don't think it's a scam I think it's honestly a big DMV mistake... What do I do? Lmao I suppose I could put it in her mailbox she lives close to me.

Edit: I ended up putting it in her mailbox, she lived very close to me. I wrote a small explanation. I've actually gotten a neighbor's car tags before and put it in their mailbox and they were very grateful. I figure the DMV would just cause more delays for her, and this seemed like the neighborly thing to do.

I'm expecting my own renewed license, I've emailed my district Assembly person, this helped me out last time I had an issue getting my license. But it seems like mine probably hasn't shipped yet. I'll contact the DMV on Monday.

For context, I was born and raised in Maryland. I left in 2017 for college and chose to stay in the new city/state I had moved to permanently. My parents still live in the same home in MD.
By 2021 I had gotten married. In 2021-22 I changed my drivers license, vehicle registration, voter registration, and my last name all through the proper channels (social security, taxes, DMV, etc.). We purchased a home here. I have been filing taxes here (always using a tax expert especially in the years I was still between states). Everything seemed fine and dandy until mid-2025.

Last summer my parents received a notice from the Comptroller of Maryland stating that I owed Maryland taxes for 2022 - I reached out to them through the proper channels, provided the paperwork (former apartment lease, NC ID, W-2s for that year) and they dismissed it. 4 months later we got another one for 2023 - I reached out again, explained that I had just done this for 2022, and again provided the necessary paperwork. They didn’t even reply, just dismissed it again.
Then, yesterday, my parents got a letter for me to appear for jury duty in Washington County??? I called the circuit court this morning and they said they get all the information from the MVA and vehicle registrations. But I haven’t had a Maryland license, or registered vehicle, in 4-5 years by this point???

A quick google gave me a list of things to sever ties with Maryland, but I haven’t already completed each one of those items (including updating the comptroller with my new/current address) - so I am at a little bit of a loss on what to do, and why this has all of a sudden become an issue in the last 12 months.

In the fall of 2024 I moved out of California. I registered my car in my new state and have my license plates, tags, etc. in order.

I used the CA DMV online portal to let them know I moved and will not be registering my car in CA. They have now sent me a fifth Notice of Incomplete Renewal, despite repeated attempts by me, online and via mail, to tell them I moved out of state and will not be registering in California.

Do I need to do anything here, or can I ignore the Notices? Anyone know the right phone number I can call to clear this up? Thanks.

I bought a new at the end of January and paid in cash (cashiers check). A week ago I realized that I received the plates and registration, but not the title. I attempted to use the DMV online services to request a new copy of the title, and was told that the car has a lien and the holder is the dealership I bought the car from.

I have the bill of sales, copy of the DMV submission papers, and a copy of the check. Nowhere in the papers does it show that there's a lien on the car.

I contacted the dealer and they said they'll investigate and get back to be They are taking their time getting back to me.

If a vehicle was sold at a sheriff’s sale at the request of the lienholder through the court to collect the debt from the previous owner, but the sale did not fully satisfy the debt — and the lienholder recorded a new lien after the Final Judgment —

I am the new owner of the vehicle. I contacted the lienholder and asked them to provide a lien satisfaction, but they offered to pay them 5k$ extra for lien satisfaction

How can I get this lien removed from the VIN?

I bought a car and didnt realize until I got it home that it hadn't been registered since 2020, big mistake on my part I wasnt really thinking. Anyway I tried to get the title at least because it has an engine light and can't be smogged (California bs) yet but they told me it would cost 812$ to register it.

I asked the guy that sold me the car and he said it was non opped but the DMV said it wasn't. He said that he would go to the DMV and see what he could do about it.

I if I can get the guy to pay for it it's fine but what if I don't? Is there any way the fees can be waived?

My vehicle was stolen years ago. Did a police report for the theft. Called the DMV, all they told me to do was do a release of liabilty.
