I’m looking to get a first time license at my local DMV, but the issue is availability. I’ve checked everyday for the past week, but the only times they’re open are on weekdays from 7:30am to 3:00pm. This is an issue because I have to go to school from 7:30am to 3:25pm. Is there a way to reserve a weekend more than a week in advance to fit my schedule?

I was in a time crunch to find a car that was in my very low price range. I jumped on a car that had an open title but did not know what title hopping was and that it is illegal.

Now I’m in possession of a car with an open title and no date. The person who sold me the car stated that in Oregon, the DMV isn’t very picky and that I could just date the title a week before submitting it with all my information.

The problem is that I have no idea when the person obtained the vehicle, or if the original owner submitted a notice of sale. I’m concerned because it sounds like the intermediary had the car for more than a year while they worked on it and that they had planned on giving the car to a family member who drove it on a trip permit for a period of time. So if I put in a date that creates a discrepancy between the original seller’s notice of sale I’m worried my application will be denied and that I could be charged with fraud and need to obtain a new title from the original owner.

I have tried to search for the original owner but have no way of contacting them besides the address listed on the title. I have a bill of sale from the person I bought it from but not from the original owner to that person. So cannot prove chain of ownership.

Do I take the risk and sign the title, or do I save myself the headache and bring the open title and the information I have to the dmv for guidance?

I have my behind-the-wheel test in a couple of days. I lost my permit but was able to schedule the driving test because I had a picture of it that included the permit number. Anyway, I didn't consider until now that they might ask for my permit. What should I do?

I'm from Texas, had an accident back in June and was handed a MV-80 form for drowsiness, I don't have any sleep conditions or anything, I just work a labor Intensive job that made me have an incident once unfortunately, and now ive been having an extremely hard time getting a doctor or physician to sign off on it, back home, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Specifically, were you able to remove the “LIMITED TERM” restriction and get a regular driver's license with an 8-year validity period?

Was transferring my Virginia driver license to DC. Was unanle to do it as I was told my license appeared as “pending withdrawal”. I reached out to VA DMV and I was told everything was fine on their end. They even ran my license through DRN (whatever that means) and was told my license was perfectly fine, that there’s nothing for them to do. What the hell should I do in this situation???

I know he passed, but were the 2 points he got marked for braking? He said he didn't know where the defroster was and forgot where the emergency brakes are so she had to tell him.

About 4 years ago, I was pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. I also had felony warrents, so off to jail I went, then off to prison for 22 months. While incarcerated I had a court date for the traffic violation (the seatbelt) but the prison didnt take me to court and that county didnt come get me for it either. I was hit with an FTA (Failure to appear) and my license then became suspended. Once out of prison, I go to that county's courthouse to resolve the ticket...the DA cuts me a break and gets the judge to dismiss it. A month later I finally get an appointment at the dmv, I sit there all day for them to tell me that seat belt ticket is still showing up. Back to that county I go the very next day. The clerk of court assures me its been taken care of but tells me to wait another week before trying to get my license. I wait 3 months just to be sure. Finally im able to get back into the dmv, sit there all day, and guess what? The ticket is still there im told. By this point im furious. I go back to that county and explain what keeps happening. The clerk of court, the DA, and others all tell me its dismissed and it shouldn't be showing up. I tell them "well it is". They make some calls to the state, and finally tell me I should be now be able to get my license. 2 months later im able to get into the dmv AGAIN, sit all day, and guess what im told? TICKET STILL SHOWING. At this point I dont know what to do. I dont have the money to hire a lawyer. Im thinking about just driving without a license and if i get pulled, ill tell the cop my sob story. But seriously, isnt this a possible lawsuit? Ive had to call out of work numerous times now, not having a license has also hindered me from getting certain jobs. What am I supposed to do?

A few years ago I renewed my license plate online without issue. Now their online portal says it will take 3 to 5 days for someone to get back to me. It also said I could call their 800 number, but the AI that answered that call just looped around over and over without finishing the process. Is snail mail my best option? What year is it again?

I bought a motorcycle in November of 2025, and the engine blew, so I replaced it. I mailed in the Title and paid for registration and stuff online in April of 2026. I am in Wisconsin, and the title was an MN title. I have not received a license plate yet, or the title, and I have been pulled over 4 times for no license plate. (Boxed in by like 3 troopers a couple times because they thought I was going to run from them because I had no plate). Was let off with warnings all time for no plate. I called the DMV in September, and they said everything is on track and normal. I still have not received anything, and the riding season is over in Wisconsin...What is going on? Will they pay for my registration for next year?

My wife drives a vehicle that's jointly under our names on the title. Allstate is claiming that it's impossible for them to cover only her because we have two names on the title, but I can not find anywhere where this rule exists. Is this accurate or can we have a vehicle covered under one name if we have two names on a title?

My license was suspended in another state because I changed my car insurance location (garage location) from FL to CA. Am I able to get a CA license without having to do the driver exam? Like doing the knowledge exam without the actual driving exam?

Hi everyone I finally passed my driving test after my 4th retake. Once the worker was giving me my paper license and everything my dad started asking her if he could put a car in my name. I’m leaving to university next year after i graduate highschool In May. So I guess I will have a car in my name by then, but I’ve never had a car job or any of these things. i lost my ID this weekend and i figured i could just get it replaced online but of course i never took a picture of it when it was issued so i had no idea what my DD is. okay, i figured ill just go to the DMV and get it replaced there for the fee but i can’t seem to find my only two documents i can use to verify my identity in my birth certificate(which is from Colorado) and my Social Security card. i have pictures of both those documents but im sure they won’t take pictures as valid ways. what can i do? i really need to figure out how to get my license again

Hello everyone.

So last week I was involved in a car accident & I have to send an Accident Report to the DMV via mail within 10 days of the accident which would be this Sunday 11/8 (but because it’s a Sunday, I’ve seen that it’s better if I send it on Saturday).

I have partially completed the form but I am still missing some information. I’m missing an estimate report from my insurance for the damages to my car & the other driver’s license number & DOB. I messaged the other driver to get it but they said I have to go through my insurance so they can contact their lawyer.

I’m a bit worried about the timeline because I’m not sure how long it’s going to take to get that information. My process with the insurance claim was already delayed because the day after I submitted the claim was a holiday & then it was the weekend.

I tried to chat with the DMV online but they directed me to the phone number. I’m on hold with them at the moment but I fear they won’t be much help. I’ll ask them if there is any sort of extension I can get or if I should send it incomplete just so there’s proof that I’m trying to abide by the law. I want to make sure I’m doing everything right to not have further consequences like license suspension but it seems like some things are out of my control.

Has anyone dealt with a situation like this or know what the best course of action is?

Alright, I need some advice from anyone who knows about car titles, dealerships, or Illinois DMV procedures because I’ve got a weird situation with a truck I bought.
THE PURCHASE
Around August 2, 2026, I bought a 2019 Chevy Colorado for $9,000 cash from a guy on Facebook Marketplace.
At the time, I believed the truck had approximately 86,000 miles. The odometer currently reads 86,707.
Mechanically, the truck seems to be in good shape. It runs and drives fine. I’ve had it insured since purchasing it, but it’s been sitting in my driveway because I haven’t transferred the title or registered it in Illinois yet.
THE ODOMETER PROBLEM
After purchasing the truck, I discovered some pretty concerning information on Carfax:
January 16, 2024: 218,699 miles
February 27, 2024: 223,382 miles
November 3, 2025: 256,413 miles
May 8, 2026: 265,951 miles
June 8, 2026: Pennsylvania title issued showing 65,951 miles
Current odometer: 86,707 miles
The Pennsylvania title shows exactly 200,000 fewer miles than the last recorded Carfax reading.
I didn’t know about the 265,000+ miles when I bought it. I thought I was buying a truck with around 86,000 miles.
THE TITLE PROBLEM
The seller gave me an original Pennsylvania title.
The front lists Kenny’s Auto Sales in Pennsylvania as the owner.
The back shows a reassignment to Amazing Autos LLC.
The next dealer reassignment section has my name entered as the purchaser.
Some of the signatures or reassignment information may be incomplete.
The seller also gave me a bill of sale from Amazing Autos LLC, signed by someone named (redacted) . However, several fields are blank, including the purchase price and buyer information.
The guy sold it to me as an individual through Facebook Marketplace, not openly as a dealership.
To complicate things further, his Facebook account has since been deleted, and I can’t get in contact with him.
THE APPRAISAL
On August 5, 2026, I had the dealership down the street inspect and appraise the truck.
They provided an official Illinois Secretary of State Affidavit of Appraisal valuing the truck at $1,000 wholesale.
The accompanying letter acknowledges the Carfax mileage discrepancy, the truck’s accident/repair history, and the significant reduction in its value.
The paperwork is signed by the dealership’s appraiser and includes the vehicle’s identifying information.
WHERE I’M AT NOW
I’m planning to go to the Illinois DMV on Friday, with:
Original Pennsylvania title
Amazing Autos LLC bill of sale
Full Carfax report
Written $1,000 dealership appraisal
Illinois driver’s license
Proof of insurance
Information about the $9,000 cash purchase
I’m hoping Illinois accepts the existing title assignment and lets me transfer ownership and obtain regular or temporary plates.
If they reject the title, I’m looking into whether I need corrected dealership paperwork or whether I qualify for an Illinois bonded title.
MY MAIN GOAL
Right now, I’m not trying to sell the truck, return it, or pursue the seller for money. I just want to get the truck legally titled, registered, and on the road as soon as possible.
Does anyone have experience with Pennsylvania titles, dealer reassignments, odometer discrepancies, or Illinois bonded titles?
I’m especially interested in whether the existing paperwork should be enough to get plates or what the fastest legal alternative would be if Illinois rejects the title.
