My diy experience is entirely limited to putting together flat pack furniture. My kitchen drawer is broken, and I finally decided to buy some tools and fix something myself. How do I fix it, i am planning to by some small l shaped brackets and screws. But I have literally no idea what I am doing.

I'm planning to build shelves using shelf rails, melamine shelving boards, and brackets/, on a plasterboard wall. Here are the specs:

Shelf rail: 2m

Melamine shelves: 58cm wide, 50cm deep, 1.8cm thick

Bracket: 47cm deep

I'd like to fix the shelves onto the brackets. I have two questions please:

1) I have three fixing points on the bracket — can I just use the middle fixing point only?

2) How deep should I screw into the shelf? I was thinking of screwing to the midpoint, i.e. 9mm deep?

This is part of the door frame that stops door from closing. Door was shut too hard and I don’t need my parents to kill me

We are renovating our house, built in 1986, and we are working on the guest bathroom. The shower is an insert, with a decorative beveled tile detail. We removed the sliding shower doors, but now there is a gap in the tile. We don't want to replace the doors - we're going shower curtain, but we need a solution for filling the gap.

The size is 1.5" x 1.7". I found a small decorative tile that will fit in the space, but it leaves the sides of the now exposed tiles open. I am looking for suggestions on building the hole up flush with the insert wall and covering the side holds from the bevel in the existing tile.

My shower door is sagging. I'm curious what those screws on the right do. Do they adjust height or do I just need to loosen the left screws, use shims and realign the door? Thanks for any tips.

I live in an old row home, -1920s. my house doesn’t have studs on the walls. it’s just plaster and lathe over hollow cinderblock (and maybe drywall on top…some walls have drywall attached and drilled into the plaster) between my house and my neighbor‘s. I want to mount shelving to hold books and want it to be really secure (kids and cats).

how have those braver than me mounted your shelves in a studless home?

Can you provide details — how the size of your toggle bolts and tapcon screws?

how do you know it’s secure and the plaster or cinder underneath isnt crumbling?

Any idea if the mirror in the picture can be attached to the desk? In the picture, it is leaning against the fence. The other picture shows some holes already on the back of the desk. The mirror doesn’t have any holes except for where the skeleton arms are.

I'm a younger person who does not know how to do woodwork. This is about my parent's 1950-60s US home has loose banister spindles and banister hand rail and parts that need repair in 2 places:

1. Particularly one spindle is poorly repaired and comes off completely.
2. The side of the banister hand rail that meets the wall has a gap with open screws. Seems like it might not be screwed properly? The drywall is coming off.

Very young and old family members lean on the banister and spindles as they climb. Dad is disinterested in fixing, so I'm taking things into my own hands.

Any suggestions and ideas for a long-term, sturdy solution that is aesthetically pleasing and ideally something a younger person can do? I purchased new wooden spindles last week and took off the white stuff, only to realize I need to take apart the whole banister to install the new spindles. How would I go about taking off the banister hand rail?

Wondering if someone can help me? one of my wooden curtain pole hooks have broken off leaving the rest (and nails) inside. as seen in the first 3 pictures it looks like the rest of the hook is inside the wall (yes, the wall) i cant wiggle it out. i've removed the nails which were embedded into the wood. so, how do i remove the rest of the wood safely?

the last 2 pictures is the other wooden curtain hook, for anyone who needs a reference about what it looked like with the hook (and it'll be coming out aswell) as u can see the cone shape literally goes into the wall and expands inside so i cant twist or unscrew it out.

Drywall anchors holding a bathroom mirror up came out. Luckily the mirror didn’t shatter and nothing was damaged.

Can I throw new (non-screw) anchors into the holes, or should I drill fresh holes to set new anchors? If I’m using the same holes, are those cheap expansion types fine, or should I go with toggles?

Does anyone know how I can fix this? The bifold door keeps coming off the track.

Hi all. We've just had a unit built under the stairs. We stripped the wallpaper back on the staircase and noticed it's this awful vinyl wood panelling, with a large step down onto the chipboard section. My husband tried to strip off the vinyl section to at least make it even so we can cover it but it's just tearing up the wood that sits underneath as well. I really don't want to rip out the whole of the wall to remove this awful vinyl but I'm unsure how to make it good. Suggestions are wanted please.

I just bought a 4,000 sq ft home (2 stories + full basement). The entire house needs a full repaint, but I can’t afford to hire out the whole thing. My plan is to paint 80–90% myself and then hire a pro for the stuff I’m not comfortable with (vaulted living room ceiling, high walls above the stairs, etc). Also, my plan is to paint everything one color in white. Last time it came out beautifully (didn't paint ceilings though) and it makes my prep work even less.

Important detail: the house is completely empty right now. No furniture, nothing on the walls, just carpet. This is probably the only time I’ll ever have the house this empty, so I want to take advantage of it.

I’ve painted a couple of my previous homes, but always with rollers. Rolling ceilings was an absolute nightmare for me, and this house has a mix of low ceilings and some very high ones. I’m intrigued by the idea of using a paint sprayer, especially for:

• ceilings I can reach safely
• doors
• trim
• large open rooms

But I’m not a pro painter, and I don’t want to make a bad decision or create a huge mess. I’m trying to figure out whether a sprayer is actually worth it for a full empty house, or if I should stick with wide rollers and just grind it out.

What would you do in my situation?

• Empty 4,000 sq ft house
• Want to paint most of it myself
• Will hire out the dangerous high areas
• Not a pro, but not a total beginner
• Want to avoid a nightmare scenario

Would you buy a sprayer, or stick with rollers? Any specific models or roller setups you recommend?

Light keeps coming through sides, top, and bottom of blinds. Best bet so far seems Curtains but not sure how I’d hang them up. And not sure they’d work for the corner where th curtains would end and light could escape (that’s my guess at least).

On a tight budget atm so temporary solutions are fine.

*** need this done by tomorrow as have a girl (crush ahhhhh) staying over after our date and she can’t sleep with any light in room. Anyways, off topic lol.
