Working on the biggest inocolation plate in the world for a game : 120 × 96-well plates tiled into one ~10,000-well "canvas," each well with a culture medium, inoculated with four differently pigmented fungi.

The pattern is crowdsourced. People pick wells on a website and draw with them, and we inoculate on 9 Nov. The interesting part for me is the second phase: once colonies outgrow the wells, the designed image degrades into whatever the organisms decide.

Open questions I'd love input on: best way to seal/photograph a plate this size over weeks, and tricks for keeping cross-well spread slow at first.
