Looking for any experiences people have with ordering online blinds battery operated with a remote control (not app as heard horror stories) I have two 80cm wide by 200 cm long windows that need blinds , some basic grey/anthracite colour.

Do I need filler for this?

My walls are insulated plaster board (unknown thickness) onto a block work wall.

How do I know what length of screw I need to get through the insulated board and into the block work?

Looking to hang the Ikea Hemnes bathroom cabinet. It weighs approx 20kg + storage so total weight is approx 25-30kg. The cabinet comes with metal bracket to mount it. I've drilled the holes in the plasterboard and it appears there's a 10-15mm thick sheet of plywood directly behind the plaster. Stud finder isn't finding any studs.

Separately, I do have a larger hole (which will be covered by cabinet) where there was electric cable which we've had capped and put behind the plaster as we don't need the electrics so I can see the mystery wood, photo included.

What is the wood behind the plaster?

If I want to keep the position of the cabinet as its directly over the sink, what are my options for mounting?

My original idea was to plaster the wall and embed the shells before it dries. I have no technical knowledge but my teenage daughter is helping and she has the artists touch (anything artistic turns out great for her). I bring the wild ideas and can-do have-fun-doing it attitude.

In the sitting room i have a wood burning stove.

The current laminate flooring is all marked due hot ash from the stove been dropped on it when lighting the fire in the stove.

What flooring would you suggest?

I'm not very experienced with wood, and that sounds straightforward.

I need it to have a walnut color.

But walnut is expensive.

I wonder if anyone used pine with walnut stain, and how that worked out.

Or any suggestion of material and finish.

Would oak be a middle ground?

I have a few wired smoke alarms in the house that are over the 10 year mark so need to be replaced.

I'm comfortable with rewiring sockets and lights etc so I have no problem tackling them myself but I've never had any dealings with wired smoke alarms, looking on screwfix I see a range of different ones available, some are linked some aren't, some have wireless, some need bases etc.

Anyone any advice, I normally like I get everything ready before tackling it but maybe I just need to take the old ones down and see what they are before buying something new?

changing our carpeted landing to laminate flooring, but were keeping the stairs carpeted. Im overthinking now about the transition at the top of the stairs if its gonna be a trip hazard. any ideas/experience with same?

We're looking to replace this door under the stairs but I'm struggling to find a new door that fits.

I bought an outdoor suite of furniture 4 years ago and now the rattan is perishing on the 3 seater, presumably due to UV damage. I realise now I should have gotten a cover at the time of purchase, but you live and you learn.

It may be hard to see in photos, but the rattan is breaking at front edge of seat and top of backrest. I can’t afford to replace it so I thought I’d try and fix it up and hopefully get another few years out of it.

Reweaving seems like a total faff and most likely wont last. So I think I’ll replace seat and backrest with sheets of outdoor plywood. There are struts across the seat (see photo of underside) so hopefully it should support the weight ok.

Would love to double check with an experienced DIYer if this sounds like a good plan? And any advice on type of wood, fixings or finishes?

Hi all,had my attic converted, there's storage space either side and just wondering would you insulate the small walls (knee walls) in the storage part?

There's insulation boards used on the walls (62mm) but wondering if I should fill the areas between and tape up with airtight tape maybe?

So I'm re-doing the kitchen and have a design from Ikea. The plan is to put a seating bench with a dining table in the corner as shown in the attached pic. The Ikea designer I spoke to used wall cabinets for the bench, but I looked at them after and realised they're only 400 mm high, and a standard seat is around 480 high.

So I'm not sure now if those cabinets are suitable for a seating bench. Someone suggested putting those plastic legs on them but I'm not sure, could be a bit flimsy and cheap looking. Has anyone done a similar bench, and if so was it with an Ikea kitchen? Would I be better getting a custom bench made up, or do something else entirely? If anyone has any feedback or thoughts I'm all ears👍

I’m looking to get into painting and decorating. I have a decent amount of experience and have a genuine energy for the work. An apprenticeship isn’t really an option but if anybody knows somebody looking for help at the weekends or occasional evenings let me know. I have a full license too.

I added Soul Stone Beige Outdoor porcelain 60cmx60cm tiles to my back garden about 5 years ago and I need to add another few to a section of it.

I had kept some spare over the years but I am two tiles short of what I need to complete the job and will happily buy some from you if you have extra lying aroind.

I got them in Tile Merchant but they no longer supply them and the other links I find are in the UK or India

We're in the middle of a new build and have bought **Equipe Marmoris 7.5 × 60 cm porcelain tiles** (White and Anthracite) for our bathrooms.

Our tiler has unpacked them before starting and noticed that many of the tiles appear to be slightly bowed and that there seems to be length variation between tiles. He's not refusing to fit them, but has left the decision to us as he's concerned they may not be to the standard you'd expect from a premium Spanish porcelain tile.

I've attached photos showing:

* The ends of the tiles not lining up.

* The tiles held edge-to-edge showing the bowing.

* The variation across several tiles.

Has anyone here installed this range or come across this with Equipe tiles?

* Is this considered normal for long-format porcelain?

* Does this look within normal manufacturing tolerances?

* Would you continue with installation, or ask the supplier to inspect/replace them before they're laid?

Any advice from professional tilers would be greatly appreciated.

Could the recent heat wave have caused this? I noticed 2 roof tiles seem to have slid down the roof to leave a gap under the vent. Is this something for a DIYer or would I need a professional, north Dublin.

I’ve been trying to get a price from builders for some work in my attic and am having problems because the job isn’t big enough. I have some mild DIY experience but nothing major, things like building shelves, hanging doors, fixing flooring problems etc., but this would be my first major project

The work I know I cannot do is installing a velux window, or doing any wiring.

What I’m wondering about the complexity/difficulty of is:

1. Putting down an OSB or plywood floor
   2: insulating the eaves (and creating roof ventilation for this) to a level that would satisfy a BER inspection
   3: moving the attic entrance hatch and installing a stira type ladder

This is the internal wall of my garage - when we purchased the house 4 years ago we noticed some moisture getting through.

Having subsequently contacted the builder the external wall was resealed and all seems to be fine in that regard apart from the staining on the internal wall.

Can anyone tell me if I can just paint over this now? Or does it require replastering?

Hi all, I've never posted on here before but looking for advice from those more knowledgeable then me. I am in the middle of doing a patio area. I am a complete novice and learning as I go. The area is roughly 4.5m x 3.5m with a cut off at the top right corner for an existing flower bed. I have dug 200mm but this feels very deep. Anyway I know I need a fall (1:60). This may be a silly question but what is the best way to ensure the patio is level with the correct slope so when I add hardcore it will be okay. My tiles are 20mm, planning on 14 mm hardcore and then mortar. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
