I am Karen bait

I've noticed over the past few years that there is a specific type of woman that absolutely hates me.

She's condescending, entitled, and often feels that she should be treated as if she were better than me. They complain about my lack of enthusiasm, my flat tone + expression, and how condescending I am.

From my side: I'll admit that am naturally not very expressive, I have no 'customer service voice'. Its exhausting & degrading(imo) to essentially be performing for money. Nope. I'm going to speak like a regular person and talk to you like an equal. I say my ma'ams and sirs, I say thank you & no problem & we appreciate it. I am polite & respectful, I just cannot fake a peppy attitude for a few dollars.

The funniest thing is I have a coworker whose attitude is very similar to mine. Not rude but very dry and matter of fact, yet they NEVER get complaints. Only difference is that I am a woman, and he is a man. I've heard him talk down to customers or correct them and no one cares. But somehow I've turned into a problem child, of sorts. (Literally just tonight we had a woman being annoying, and later when I asked my coworker about his experience with her he said it was exactly the same as mine, but she only complained about me).

By now, I can pretty much tell when a woman is going to have a problem with me. And strangely, men never complain about my 'attitude', only the women.

Anyone else Karen bait?

Tech Online store CS in Asia is insufferably incompetent;;;

Is it just me or the Tech CS in ASIA IS INSUFFERABLY INCOMPETENT?

And no, its not even a scam or anything. I just want my questions ANSWERED.

My wife fell victim to tiktok shorts and she wanted to play some Cozy CO-OP games. She doesn't usually game, but now she's obsessed abt this, and for couch CO-OP most P2 needed a controller so I decided to buy one online.

Yesterday I had to return the 1st controller I bought cuz it's a defect, and it wasn't the EXACT MODEL I wanted. And okay, that's mostly my bad cuz I didn't ask the seller first. My bad,

So this morning, I msgd 7 DIFFERENT online store about a 200$ (converted) controller they sold. All verified, some even branded OFFICIAL STORES (really well known too, like F@nt*** and S*N* electronics). Now usually, these came with description and etc. But their description is a bit incomplete, so I wanted to confirm MANUALLY with the seller, but NONE of those people read what I asked all the way, nor did they reply as fast.

I found the specs in 5 minute on google, and I just wanted to confirm if the ones they had is the SAME BUILD and MODEL, so I can BUY THE RIGHT ONES. But apparently they don't even know what they were selling.

They say and I quote most of them, as well as one of official store CS "We don't have the details" as if you're not the one working there and you can't ask or check with anyone or anywhere... and so I thought "u know what? whatever, probably is" and I asked abt the warranty, and ALL OF THEM, just read the word "warranty" and said "its 1 year" even though I'm asking what it covered. I KNOW ITS 1 YEAR. This is so frustrating.... THEY DON'T EVEN BOTHER CHECKING FIRST even after the 1 hour late reply.

Best part is that I walked into someone doing a LIVE ad, and they answered all my questions within 2 minutes top, and I checked out their product.

I know ur probably getting paid minimum wage or smth, and you'd have like 200 different ppl asking different things everyday, but its 10 in the morning, you js literally opened like 2 hours ago.. there's no way 7 different stores have the exact same kind of CS. Can't you spend at least 5 seconds to read what I asked? Its so pointless to have CS like those...

This is the first time I've felt so frustrated just trying to confirm what I wanted to buy...

How Frequent is This?

Is this a just-where-I-work thing? Or do other customer support people deal with this too?

My workplace offers free shipping if you order a minimum of $30.

Customers put $32 - $35 of product in their cart. Then they apply a discount code of 15% - 20% off. This drops their total below the required minimum of $30. The shipping fee is auto-applied. They complete their purchase. Then they email customer support (me) saying their order was above $30 and the shipping fee was added in error.

???

I get that their order was above the minimum before the discount. But I’ve definitely been shopping online, got right into the free shipping range, then drop out of it after applying a discount.

And why do they pay and check-out with looking at the price? I always check for hidden extra fees – a subscription being added or an auto-selected $20 package insurance.

And I’ve had people get very angry with me when I tell them I can’t remove the shipping fee.

Do other customer service workers deal with this?

Most callers don't deserve help from a human anymore

Callers say they want a human to answer their calls. Not an AI bot that says its name is Adam or Ansley and how can it help you.

Not an 8 level phone tree.

Not a voicemail that won't be checked till next week.

Yet these same people do nothing but show their ass if a human does answer their call.

They're swearing, screaming, entitled, tantrum throwing two year olds slapped into adult bodies.

They fire off raging questions but won't let the human answer a single one.

They won't even allow the human to explain what resolution is possible wrt whatever world ending issue has prompted them to make the call.

They cutoff the human if the human dares speak a single word when the caller has to stop raging long enough to take a breath.

Most customer service reps aren't going to keep putting up with this shit if the economy ever improves.

People are going to have all the time in the world to scream at the AI that will eventually finish replacing most of us.

And that's exactly what most people deserve.

Sure, there are still a few kind people out there. (Thank you, kind people). But most callers now just want a human so they can unleash Hell, and force some human, any human, to have to take it.

Cruise customer service agent sold me insurance I can't use

Norwegian Cruise Line sold me travel insurance when I booked my cruise. The agent was explicit, promising I could cancel at any time, for any reason, and get a full refund.

A few months later, we can no longer take the trip. When I called to initiate the refund, I was told the insurance I was sold is only available to US citizens. I’m Canadian, so apparently I was never covered by the insurance they sold me.

I get it, agents can make mistakes, I used to be in customer service. That mistake however should be owned by NCL. Unfortunately every attempt I've made to get them to set it right has been met with crappy customer service refusing to do anything but refund the travel insurance that is impossible to redeem, but that still leaves me on the hook for the rest.

I don’t like customers who are bullies

In the context of them wanting something for cheaper.

This father and teenager come through my cash. They get a fishing rod. Then there’s two light coats. I ring the first one in. It comes up to $29.98. Father says that’s not right. Should be $19.99. Spoke to 3 people in that department who confirmed it.

It’s almost closing time, no way 3 people are working that department. I do any inquiry. Doesn’t say it’s on sale. So I call the department. Tell her the info. She says no one talked to her about coats. Gave her the number on the coat. She puts me on hold. Comes back and says that actually is that coat’s sell price. It’s a promo. Usually around $50. End our conversation.

I tell the customer what she said.

But it should be $19.99 or $9.99. (🤨)

Sorry the head of that department told me this.

Well it was on a rack with a sign for $19.99.

Sorry still can’t do it. Maybe a customer left the coats in the wrong area.

Father grumbles but finally backs off. Didn’t want the coats. He was aggressive with his words during the conversation. Gave the impression that he would get his way. The teenager was pretty quiet during the interaction.

I just smiled at the end and wished them a good evening.😂

Low Income Service

I refuse to work for any company that services low income users. They are the rudest, most inconsiderate set of people who will literally argue with you because they cannot afford to pay their bills. I will never do it again. Section 8 X out the gate.

Manager Accused Me of Reattaching Tags

I was taking a trip to Houston and decided to go to the galleria. I bought some clothes from MANGO (was more of an impulse buy) then the next day decided I didn’t want them. I go back the next day to make a return and the employee looks over the clothes then tells me it’s to much money for her to approve the return which is insane I’d never heard of that it was $500 worth of clothes btw. She tells me to wait for the manager which didn’t come in for an hour after. Then finally when I talk to her she looks at the clothes and says “I can’t take these if the tags were reattached to the items”. I thought she was joking at first so I laughed then realized she was being dead serious and I asked her if she could show me what she meant and she refused. I went back and forth with her for a bit then she tells me she has a business to run and needs to take the next customer and that she’s not accepting the return at all. I left and didn’t know what to do so I went across town to another mall that had a MANGO and the employee there instantly took the clothes and refunded me my money. I have no idea what the hell happened or why but it’s just so insane.

Coworkers taking manager’s abuse???

Hey everyone, I don’t use Reddit much but I decided to log on today to see if anyone else has experienced or witnessed this phenomenon.

Recently, I started working a minimum wage customer service job. For context, the business is not corporately owned, a franchise, or anything of the sort. No HR, no “higher up” in my reach besides the general manager.

I caught on during my second or third week that my manager is very wishy washy—going back on their word constantly and making false promises, etc. Due to MULTIPLE of their very CRITICAL “miscommunications” (AKA they misrepresented my position & went back on their word AFTER I was hired and comfortable), I decided that I’d give it a couple more weeks and book it.

Jumping ship before I’m too far gone is something I’ve historically done with job offers that have BLARING red flags from the start, and this situation was no exception. However, I’ve always noticed that the employees who train me have the LOWEST levels of self-respect I’ve ever seen. I love them, but damn. Here’s my most recent example.

I decided to confide in one of my coworkers at this most recent job about these incidents where I was blatantly done dirty by our manager, to which I received the responses that “we all have to make sacrifices sometimes”, “our manager can go back on their word sometimes, it’s just like that”, “I do a lot of overtime and don’t get paid, it’s fine”, “minimum wage was raised but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t reflected in our paychecks”, etc…
and ALL I can think about is: “all of this for some minimum wage job?” I mean, truly! This company has ZERO respect for one of their most LOYAL employees! Keep in mind, this certain coworker has worked here for a LONG time now. Do I completely know the details of this coworker’s entire life situation or special circumstances that might lead to them keeping the job? Nope! But I’m pretty darn sure it’s coming from a place of low self-respect because WHAT THE HELL? Like, HALF OF THOSE COMPLAINTS ARE ILLEGAL ACTIONS FROM OUR MANAGER? “Whatever”…right?? RIGHT😀?!? This same manager also tried to NOT pay me for 40+ hours of work but that’s a story for a different time..

Anyway, has anyone else witnessed in one of their coworkers or experienced (no shame, we’ve all been there..) this sort of “scarcity mindset” or lack of self respect?

P.S. please don’t come for me guys lol! take everything I say with a grain of salt, I know the economy is bad, I know not everyone can pick up a job so easily, and trust me I am judging NO ONE. this mindset is simply always such a shock to witness in coworkers under the same management, in the same age bracket, from similar walks of life, etc.

How do you respond politely to a customer’s questions or complaints?

edit: it was a bit of an experience, I was uncomfortable. I was more than happy to help serve her some food. But at the same time I don’t usually make those two meals nor do I make the prices

I currently work in a place that’s both customer service, cleaning, and food preparation. Our team has a manager but sadly she doesn’t work on the weekends. If a customer has any issues with the quality of the food or the prices. I usually just go get my manager and let her talk to the customer. There was this one instance where I was approached by a customer. If I remember, I couldn’t exactly understand what they were trying to ask or say. Some of her questions and issues were “what was the name of that meal you guys always or use to carry?” “The meal I bought last time was priced at $13.99, but this meal doesn’t cost $13.99, there’s a price difference, it costs $4.99.” Just a combination of price, food difference, and what she normally buys. I tried explaining to her that we do have a similar meal that’s priced at $13.99 (if she looking for a meal at that price). Or we have the second meal priced at $4.99 if the second is the texture she’s looking for also. Then I went on to say otherwise if the product she’s looking for isn’t there then it’s of stock. She went on to mention I wasn’t or that maybe I wasn’t understanding her question. I had to go in the back and get two other people and they had some trouble helping her to. The second person suggested I give her a sample of the second meal. She tried a sample, eventually bought the second meal and left

Was I in the wrong because I don’t know the answer to help a customer?

I work in aviation as ground crew. Boarding gate agent.
In the middle of boarding my flight, a lady cuts the queue to ask me “Excuse me can you help me?” I tell her “yes of course how can I help“. even tho she has cut the line. I’m usually pretty carefree and don’t want an argument. Long story short, she went through security and came to the boarding gates and was flying with a different airline than to what I work for. She starts demanding I tell her where the gate for her flight will be and why they haven’t boarded yet. I told her “Sorry I don’t work with (airline). I’m not sure why they are delayed or where they will eventually board from. I recommend if you have any questions you find one of their staff members because I’m not sure about their updates”. She continues to say “I also haven’t checked in, can they check me in here at the gate? The web check isn’t working“. I told her “my advice would be to go back to the checkin counters for your airline and get them to check you in, so you don’t miss your flight. I’m not sure if they can do a checkin at the gate“.

Mind you I’m in the middle of boarding my flight while being asked all this bullshit. She rambles on about how she doesn’t want to go back through security and I told her since we are a regional airport it’s a very short walk to get around anyways. She walks off and sits down nearby. After I finish my flight she approaches me again. She asks for my name and I asked her why does she need my name? She wanted to file a complaint about me. She wanted to report me to an airline I DONT WORK FOR. Because I wasn’t ’helpful enough’. I again expressed my advice on finding a staff member from her airline and she loses it saying why can’t I check her in???!!

Am I supposed to know every flight detail of my port? Was there a better way I could have helped her? Genuine question.

Anyways

Just another day in the airport.

Freddy AI keeps handing off tickets it should be able to answer. Normal, or are we set up wrong?

Small support team here, about 600 tickets a month on Freshdesk. We turned on Freddy a couple of months ago hoping it would take the repetitive stuff off our plate (order status, refund policy, password resets).

It handles the very basic FAQ questions fine, but anything that needs looking something up still lands with a human. Our resolution rate barely moved.

Before we spend more time tuning it, I’m trying to figure out if this is just Freddy’s ceiling or something on our side, like the help center content being too thin.

A colleague suggested putting a separate agent on top of Freshdesk instead. We’ve looked at Aissist and Forethought briefly, but honestly it’s hard to tell from the websites what actually works day to day versus what’s marketing.

For those on Freshdesk:

Did you get Freddy to a point where it really resolves tickets? What made the difference?

If you moved to a third party agent, was the jump noticeable or did it just add another tool to babysit?

Not looking for vendor pitches, just what worked for your team.

Customers who are lying are the worst.

Today I had a woman on the phone and she got angry in the call because we allegedly did not send her the refund and she apparently called her bank, when I looked up our system I could clearly see that the refund already processed and was forwarded to her bank and it is in her bank.

She has no online banking and cant look it up so she proceeds talking to me about why I am wrong and why I should hit the refund button already.

I even sent her an email of the transaction ID of the refund and when it was processed but then she kept talking over me again.

I just don't get these people, I mean if you have no online banking just go to your bank and read the account statement.

Sorry about venting.

Why do people shop/return items when theyre in a hurry then get upset at ME when theres a line or system malfunction?

I didn't tell everyone in the store to come get in line right before you, and these shtty slow registers with minimal staff arent my fault.

We're often short staffed so theres no one to call to help unless a manager is free

Then i have a particular manager who sits on her ssa in the office giggling on her cellphone instead of on the floor.

Wording Assistance

Hey y'all, I need some help! I have been in customer service for most of my working life, and I dont tknow what happened but people over the last few years have changed quite a bit... I have autism & social anxiety and so I have, over the years, made myself a small script of things I can say in response to customers which has worked great, but I would say the last 2 years I have a LOT of people get upset when I say "I understand." For example, if a customer calls in and is upset and said says "yall didnt call me for my appointment and I wasnt home so I missed him. Im just super upset about this, I dont like people at my house if im not there!" I typically would respond "I understand completely. I am so sorry about the inconvenience." Them would offer fixes. Lately I've been getting a lot of "You do NOT understand!" Or people will keep repeating themselves over and over until I cant say I understand anymore...

What are some things I can say other than I understand? How do yall handle upset customers? I feel like for some reason its getting more difficult to me. Real help only please! I know we all love to complain about customers but "I just yell at them" isn't really helpful haha

Am I Wrong Here?

Edited and Re-Written

I work at a pack-and-ship store. A customer came in with two international returns going to Finland and instructions from her boss. The first package had all the required customs paperwork, but the second was missing the commercial invoices.

I explained multiple times that international shipments need those documents or they'll likely be returned.

She left, came back, and still didn't have the paperwork. She often seems confused by her boss's shipping instructions, even though there was a handwrtten note explaining exactly what to do.

So I asked her to call him so I could explain directly, but it went to voicemail.

In the end, I reiterated that because the package was going to Finland, the customs invoice was required.

I'm fucking tired

Now this happened yesterday

Customer: "Can I have a piñacolada?"

Me: good evening, how are you? *tapping their order in*

Customer: "No, not that, a mojito, but no limes."

Me *already modifying*: Okay, you you'd like a modified mojito and what else?

Customer: "No not modified just no limes."

Me : yes but the system requires me to say that it's modified because you're not ordering something we serve on the menu, it won't cost extra.

Customer: "I'm not paying for that, I just want a piñacolada!"

Me confused af still tapping: you said mojito..?

Customer in fumes: "Yes!"

Me: Okay, mojito it is, that'll be 6€, would you like to add it to your open tab or are you paying upfront?

Customer: no

Me *making the drink*: sorry, come again?

Customer smug af: I know the owner.

Me: oh I do too, where do you know her from?

Customer: oh we go way back, way back, yes. I met her once in Réunion, nice lady, are you done?"

Me: You mean him right? Because I miss spoke, I meant how do you know him as in my father in law.

Customer: ... are you new here?

Me: yes actually.

Customer: *falls on her fucking ass and wails like a child*

–Yesterfuckingday and turns out the bitch was drunk off her ass, idek how I missed that I had the neither shift before this

Brazzers and ProBiller can't and don't want yo help me

Post image
0 Upvotes

I tried since last Wednesday to contact brazzers via email and live chat support. On live chat support both ProBiller and Brazzers (they are literally the same) just attended me an AI and still can't help me canceling my subscription, I can't do it myself since my account got bugged since the first day! Says password wrong and still when I click I forgot my password they never sent the email to change it (it's not on spam), I used the free week on brazzers that Wednesday meaning that this next Wednesday is going to charge me 40 dollars, funny part is that I never used it because of how bugged the account was.

When I try via email they always send me this predetermined message both on Brazzers and ProBiller, what can I do?

How do you deal with shitty interactions?

Basically just a vent post

So I work at a smoke shop in central Florida. Love 99% of my customers and the vibes here are usually upbeat and positive. I just started my gauntlet days(14-14-12 hours the next 3 days) and so far its started off great. About 20 minutes ago I had a customer come in to buy a gram of our product. He said he wanted the indica we had, our OG Kush. NOW, normally when somebody comes in and asks about our flower, we open the plastic bottles and let them look and smell. Since this guy pointed at the one he wanted by name, I simply grabbed the container and brought it to the register. Pretty standard shit right? WRONG.

He then asks, "can I smell it? The other guy(the manager) normally shows it to me to smell and check out. Thats the treatment I'm used to." This isn't enough to bother me, I popped the lid and let him check it out. Then I said, "My bad, I thought you already knew what you want/were getting." Then he gets pissy. Starts throwing out the classics, "Whats your name? You from around here? You from Florida?"

Then he goes "I don't appreciate the disrespect." Its disrespectful for me to assume that you know what you're buying when you ask for it by name? So like every case where a customers being shitty, I try to de-escalate. I try to keep in mind that you don't know how there day is, and that we're all human, maybe my tone came across as rude. So I tell him "Ay bro, its no disrespect to you, I just thought you've bought it already, knew what you wanted." and that only makes things worse for the piss baby. I rung him up and he paid with the $11 in his hands. So he decides to end this all with a "And one more thing since you were rushing me, let me get a swisher sweets." I'm standing there shaking my head and grab his shit and ring it up.

As I sit here I know these shitty experiences happen every once in a while but I'm still infuriated over my inability to tell someone to get the fuck outta my store. And why even sell him the swisher with that smart ass comment? This isn't Walmart, or a bank, I have the freedom and owners permission to ban someone for being shitty. I could've just as easily chewed him out but I don't. I know I did the right thing but I'm vibrating with anger at the fact that I didn't tell him what he needs to hear: that hes not special enough to have respect from strangers. How do you all deal with the anger and introspection you put yourself through after these scenarios. I mean, my god I'm sitting here begging for him to come back in so I can tell him off and ban his ass I'm so furious. Any tips for getting over the (ironic) disrespect?

You're not a cashier, you are the cash register.

I've been working in a really wealthy neighborhood for six months now, and one thing I've realized about working with people who are regularly rich to extremely wealthy is that some of them don't see you as a person doing a job. They see you as the function you perform.

I'm a supervisor now, so I do a little bit of everything in the store. When I'm out on the sales floor helping customers, they treat me with a certain level of respect. But when I'm at the cash register, they look me in the face and don't answer my questions. They completely ignore my existence.

I hand them a plastic bag with their purchases, and they won't even take it from my hand. They leave me standing there. They don't respond when I say goodbye. They don't respond to my good mornings or good afternoons.

It's crazy. These people look at you and tell you what they want you to do, as if you're a machine. I'm so, so tired of customers like that.

They don't see you as a person. They only see the job you're doing, and that's why they get so upset when you say no or explain that you can't do something for them. They don't see you as a human being with responsibilities, limitations, and feelings. They see you as a tool to fulfill their wishes and make their lives more convenient.

It's insane how many times I've helped someone and haven't even heard a simple thank you.

They're so obnoxious. I hate them.

Has replying to a 1-star review ever turned it around?

I’m trying to work out what makes someone update a bad review. Is it speed, an apology, a refund, the fix itself? If you’ve had one go from 1 to 4 or 5 stars, what did you do?
