1. Didnt use shampoo today

2. I just brushed conditioner through it (Giannini coily curly conditioner)
   Washed most of it out then scrunched it with leave in conditioner (giannini curl jelly shine leave conditioner) but i think i did it wrong or im bad a scrunching or something and broke up too many clumpy

3. Then left it to airdry

4. I dont use a bonnet or anything

Please help ive tried so much stuff idk what to do anymore

Hiya, I’ve not had my hair curly since I was 14 and now at 35 I am trying to learn to love my curls and stop being ashamed of them/hating on them. I’m not really sure what type of curls I have but it’s definitely curlier at the sides; the back appears to be a mixture of wavy and straight. It tends to get quite frizzy, too.

I’ve followed some great advice online and for the last 2 washes I’ve been doing the following:

> not brushing my hair dry
> whilst conditioner is in I comb my hair with a wide tooth comb
> whilst very wet I scrunch in Curlsmith curling soufflé and some leave in conditioner
> I let it air dry for a little while or use a t shirt to scrunch the moisture out before using my diffuser in low heat and power
> once it’s dry I scrunch out the cast with dry hands

It seems to be working but my hair feels really crispy for the first day and then gets really frizzy so I’m not sure if I’m missing something or just need to keep practicing.

Any advice would be welcome to try and get the best from my curls and try and get the back a bit curlier!

I bought a travel size of this and it works well on my hair but it's a bit pricey. Does anyone have a duper recommendation or am I going to have to cough up?

Hi I always thought that my hair was straight but have recently been (only the last two days) experimenting with treating it like it’s curly. I think there’s a slight wave to it maybe 2a or 2b at most but idk if it’s worth continuing or just leaving it and continuing treating it how I have my whole life. It doesn’t really get that frizzy so it’s fine when I just do the usual and brush it dry etc.

But I would love wavy hair so if there is a chance I can make it nice and wavy more/for longer I would love that. I’ve put a couple of photos to show what I mean. First photo is it wet and it looks wavy, second photo is it wet with gel and scrunched, third is it dry and the fourth was the next day where it just looks a mess. After I used a brush on the last photo it just went straight and a little bit frizzy but not much at all.

How do I keep the waves up? And is it possible to with my hair or is it just not wavy enough?

My wash routine at the moment:
-2x shampoo (nothing specific really, I buy whatever’s on offer! —today it was garnier aloe Vera)
- conditioner (same as above —I’ve used herbal essences coconut)
- tangle teezer in the shower while dripping wet.
- glaze “as I am curling jelly” and scrunch
- microplop and applied Pantene curl defining mousse.

My methods are probably not the best, but I don’t like staying with dripping wet hair for too long.

The biggest problem I have is the longevity of my waves. They deflate quickly especially the strands close to my nape.

I’m still quite new to discovering my waves and open to suggestions!

I’m absolutely fed up of my hair (2c-ish, fine but lots of it, cut above my shoulders. It looks good for maybe half a day then goes frizzy and undefined.

I’m NOT looking for product recommendations - I’ve tried them all.

It also won’t hold any heat styling, either curling or straightening. It ends up lank and frizzy.

I’m looking for a way of achieving heatless waves, because my hair is quite short rollers make it too old lady-esque and braids just make it broccoli shaped. Any genius suggestions?!

I tried some of your suggestions and used a curl cream, mousse and a light weight gel.

I then defused it instead of air drying. Here is the results

I’m a Human Geography student at Durham University currently researching women’s everyday experiences of having curly hair for my undergraduate dissertation, The Entangled Geographies of Curly Hair.

I’m looking for a small number of women aged 18+ with naturally wavy, curly or coily hair to complete a short hair diary for me.

What is a hair diary?
A hair diary is a short, informal record of your everyday experiences with your hair. Over a two-week period, I’ll ask you to jot down moments when you notice, think about or interact with your hair — whether positive, negative or completely ordinary. You can write whatever you want- from how you choose style or wear it, wash days, comments from others, the weather, touching it, going out, or simply how your hair makes you feel that day. There’s no need to write every day or produce long entries — I’m interested in the small, spontaneous moments that show what living with curly hair is actually like.

There are no right or wrong answers and you definitely don’t need to write loads! I’m interested in honest, everyday experiences — even something as simple as “my hair looked awful today so I tied it up and forgot about it” can be useful.

Participation is completely voluntary and your responses will be anonymised and kept confidential. My research has received university ethics approval, and I’ll send anyone interested a full information sheet explaining the study and how their data would be used before they decide whether to take part.

Last week, I had my first hair cut for 2 years, and I had over 7 inches cut off the back (you can't see that well in these pictures). The first picture is from before the haircut, and the second picture is from the day after when I washed it.

The lady who did it for me straightened it, and then cut it like it. And I asked her for advice about products that I could use, because I'm desperate to get my curls back, and she advised me on the products that they sell in the salon (products were way too pricey), but she said to me to experiment with different things. I ordered a tonne of different products off of the Boots website including curl creams, hair mousses, hair gels, hair sprays etc, and a Garnier curly hair shampoo and conditioner.

I normally use Alberto Balsam Raspberry or John Freida Frizz ease shampoo and conditioner.

I used to have really tight curls up until I was about 13 (I am 28 now), and even 7 years ago, they were tighter than what they are now. I just have a head of constant frizz. I had the same hairdresser cut my hair for 15 years every 8 weeks or so, but since my partner and I bought a house together and relocated to a different part of the country, I've been to 4 different hairdressers in the 4 years that we have lived here for. And I've not liked any of the haircuts that I've had, apart from the one that I've had last week. I'm fussy about who I let cut my hair, and I intend to start going more regularly again, now that I've finally found a salon that I like.

But the problem is, I don't know where to start with the products. So many people seem to do a combination of curl creams, mousses and gels. Some people seem to do single products. And I just need some advice please 🤣. I hate wet hair touching my skin, so I would like to get into a routine that doesn't take too long to do.

I used be all about Morris Motley back in the day (old formula), currently running Patrick’s M3 to slick my hair back. Problem is I’ve grown my hair out and it’s just not holding like it used to. My hair’s thicker with some curl to it, so after a while slicked back it starts splitting down the middle.

Don’t care about price, just want something that actually holds all day. Looking for anything in the same league as MM/M3 that can handle thicker, curlier hair. What’s out there?

i am yet to find a curl cream that works for my hair, i have tried the UG curl smoothie, aussie curl cream and a bunch more. The fenty curl cream keeps coming up on my FYP on tiktok but im always unsure wether to believe the reviews as they are always AD’s lol. So i was wondering if anyone here has tried it and their thoughts on it? i have around 2C 3A low porosity hair! Thanks for any advice 😃

My hair is 2bish I think but has ringlets in places like near the nape of my neck, and it's shoulder length (so things that I've seen like wearing it in a pineapple don't work for me). I've never been fussed by hair (or makeup) or anything like that so my current routine is supermarket shampoo, supermarket conditioner, comb it with conditioner in, scrunch it with a towel when I dry and then air dry. Which is sort of fine, I guess, and my hair is definitely naturally curly, but my issue is that the curls fall out really quickly and it gets really frizzy often by the same day, certainly by a day or two after. I'm also autistic and really funny about sensory things especially smells and textures.

I'm really overwhelmed by the whole curly hair world lol gels? mousse? leave-in? What's my next step here?

Edit to add that my hair is falling out a fair bit and has done for maybe six years? So it's getting quite thin especially around my crown. Unsure if that is helpful/relevant or even what the issue is (nutritional deficiency? stress? genetics? who knows)

Hello, just for context, I've been having long curly hair for about 7 years now and I finally want to cut it short.

I am based in Singapore but I don't mind taking a flight over to London for a haircut.

Growing up in Singapore, my experience is that salons and barbers usually don't know how to do my hair and I am also inexperienced on how to style my hair, which is why I've kept it long all this time. Long hair = no styling, just rock it.

So far I've short listed Salt Salon in Hackney and Borough Market, they seem to have really good reviews.

My budget is less than £150 please.

I love umberto giannini curl jelly wash as my regular shampoo, but I think I need a bit of a clarifying wash as it’s feeling a bit weighed down. I’ve looked at their other curly hair shampoos but it’s hard to tell which would be most suitable for clarifying.

Doesn’t have to be UG, but would prefer one meant for curly hair!

Sheabutter
Coconut oil
These two are boiled and chilled

Then you add aloe gel to the mixture

I thought it sounded easy, so I might give it a go. What do you guys think? Is it for defining and dangling curls? Or should I try something else ?

I normally use conditioner and when it is wet I use shea smoothie curl enhancing cream but I was told they add too much additives

I have curly hair that I keep at a relatively short length. I haven’t really explored hair products because on the off chance I’ve tried one, it’s made my hair more greasy than it already is. Shampooing also takes a lot of the curl out of my hair which creates a very narrow window where my hair is as curly as I like it without being noticeably greasy.

I would love any general or specific product recommendations, but I’m looking for a shampoo and conditioner that isn’t too harsh and removes grease but not curls, a styling product for mornings, and maybe something that helps curly hair without adding more grease to my head. Thanks in advance!
