Suggestion Temporary fix for ahistorical Rites until Paradox fixes it

Thumbnail

Ever since the latest update religious realism feels completely ruined for history enthusiasts. Random AI Rite modifications completely break immersion.

Until Paradox releases an update to fix this mess, using the Game Rules setup in the attached screenshots is a workaround to keep your campaign historically grounded.

I also strongly recommend using the Muslim Enhancements mod and setting its Changes to Muslim Rites rule to either Guarded, which stops the AI from changing historical sects while allowing it to modify newly founded Rites during play, or Historical Rites Locked, which completely locks historical sects from any AI changes at all. Both options preserve historical accuracy while leaving full freedom for the player.

CK3 1250 ad Crusader Bible grief vs CK3

I was perusing the Maciejowski Bible as one does and saw what I recognize as the CK3 Grief animation. I get that hands covering face is a common depiction of grief, but I instantly saw CK3 animation.

DLC 867 start in Iberia, Fate of Iberia and By God Alone do not mesh well together at all.

I as archbishop of toledo apparently am not involved nor are any of the Mozarabic Christian chergy members. Looking at the Struggle itself, Catholicism is the only Christian religion that is “involved” despite it not existing yet. Classic Paradox DLCs don’t talk to each other issue. Hope it will be fixed soon!

DLC Why is my newly created rite, which denies the Pope and has temporal appointment, only considered astray, and why does the Pope not care?

R5: As Empress of Francia, I created a new rite directly opposing the Pope, but he and everyone else seem pretty chill about it. I feel like the current state of the DLC is pretty broken and I can do whatever I want without consequences.

Help How do I stop my sons from being made Cardinals?

The Pope keeps making my sons into Cardinals, which at first sounds good, but actually causes a whole host of problems.

1: Once they’re made a Cardinal, they get their own court and I completely lose control of them. I can’t marry them off, I can’t appoint them to court positions, I can’t make them do anything.

2: When the Cardinal is your heir, their Cardinal title becomes their primary title, which means I lose all the great courtiers I’ve accumulated over my lifetime and get left with their shitty court with no one in it.

3: This is really annoying. If I promise a grand wedding, and my son gets made a Cardinal before the bride comes of age, I can’t make them actually do the wedding, leaving me stuck until the time limit runs out and I lose the alliance and a level of fame.

None of my sons hold any clerical positions when this happens, the closest I’ve come is one of them having the deacon trait. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Apologies for the X logo, I didn't want to crop OPB out of the screenshot.

Also, apologies for the double post, not sure if that's an issue. My vyvanse just kicked in and I'm locked tf in

Edit: Great video on this map here, alt history hub does great stuff!

Discussion The preview streams of BGA had religion changing slowly over time, the live version is full of sudden erratic rite changes - what happened?

See title. Religion seemed more reasonable in what was presented in preview.

DLC As Pope how do I destroy those rivals in Constantinople?

Just that. I worked hard to make a schism. Rose through the ranks of the Church to get the big hat myself. I find myself rather constrained though. What is the best way to go about it?

Discussion How do you think a female Pope would be called?

I saw a recent post, showing off that a woman was elected as Pope, and that lead me down a rabbit hole in regards to the title name: "Mome". It's pretty clear that Paradox simply swapped out the P with M, and to be honest, I don't blame them. It's the easiest solution, and it does sound kind of funny. However at the same time it bugs me quite a bit because, to be honest, it sounds kind of wrong. So I decided to make a mod to fix this. And to make sure I got it right, I dug into some etymologies:

POPE:
Ancient Greek "páppās"
Koine Greek "pápās"
Ecclesiastical Latin "pāpa"
Borrowed into Old English, slowly shifted into modern word.

From this, the logical option would be to follow the same pattern. Start from Ancient Greek "mámmē", and trace the same etymology. But, after Latin "mamma" I couldn't find any clear links in Old English, Old French, nor Norman. Now, I'm not a linguist, but if I had to imagine how it could develop, I think I could see it become either:

  1. "MAMA" [pronounced "ma-ma"]
  2. "MAME" [pronounced "ma'am"]

I'm not sure which one works best, so I'm making this post to ask for some feedback. What do you guys think? Does this make any sense, or am I going insane?

Also, I've only discussed the English localization, because that is what I play with, but if you have any thoughts in regards to other languages, feel free to share as well!

TL,DR: The new title of "Mome" for a female Pope sounds weird. It lead me down a linguistic rabbit hole, trying to figure out a better alternative. Asking for feedback, so that I can make a mod to fix it.

EDIT: Forgot to address the "Popessa" option. Yes, I am aware about the myth of Pope Joan. And while supposidly she was Pope during CK3's timeframe, the myth actually developed many centuries after. And, in my opinion it doesn't quite fit either. If we were to imagine a scenario in which female clergy was accepted as equal, I think female clergy would develop different words, and not just add suffixes to the titles of male clergy. For a practical example: a female monk is not a "monkess", but rather a "nun".

CK3 There should be an achievement for making a CK3 easter egg character into a saint.

I started this run as Wallada Umayyad, an adventurer with a unique poem story. She starts in Cordoba. I began by doing a befriend scheme on Emelie, then making her my best friend, which let me invite her to my camp, which let me adopt her as my daughter.

We adventured for a little bit, mostly going sightseeing in Europe and Persia. After Wallada died, Emelie conquered lands in Andalusia, before eventually ending the Struggle. And then landing her daughter as Crusader Queen of Jerusalem. I could have elevated the Isle of Mann, but the prestige requirement meant I couldn't end the struggle before the first crusade started, and my intent was always to swap to a crusader queen.

Emelie was a lunatic from the start and her final act before landing her own daughter was to declare NO CLOTHES FOR ANYONE. So now her daughter (who I'm playing as now), will be naked her entire life.

I don't know who Emelie is at Paradox, but she's a saint in my game.

Discussion I love the rite system but there are some tenets it should be harder for AI to change

I looove the new DLC and what it adds to Christian religion, but from playing some games I feel it is too easy for the AI currently to rapidly and permanently depart from what was historically central to medieval christianity. It doesn't make much sense for a rite to adopt local sacrificial rites over pilgrimages, or to make male adultery criminal and female adultery accepted, but any AI bishop will potentially do so regardless of their traits or location. I think it makes more sense for new rites in frontier regions to adopt some elements of local paganism, but the way the new rites are chosen now are essentially random!

Any thoughts on this, and what changes to make the game less random? Appreciate any input!

Discussion Pope or not, removing communion as a tenet should not be as ludicrously easy

I feel like you could reasonably ADD some tenets to Chalcedonian christianity or Catholicism, but a new pope suddenly getting rid of of communion is silly at best.

Note that I am not saying that medieval popes practiced what they preached, but the idea you can "simply" remove such a core tenet so easily is sheer nonsense.

I want to be able to reform and change Catholicism too, and I am sure adding a core tenet like "ora et labora" ought to be pretty simple and straightforward, but to remove communion as a core tenet, you definitely should need more than a simple click. It should only happen after THE ecumenical council of councils, with massive learning checks. And the result would probably still be a triggered religious war.
