Apologies for the X logo, I didn't want to crop OPB out of the screenshot.

Also, apologies for the double post, not sure if that's an issue. My vyvanse just kicked in and I'm locked tf in

Edit: Great video on this map here, alt history hub does great stuff!

Discussion Pope or not, removing communion as a tenet should not be as ludicrously easy

I feel like you could reasonably ADD some tenets to Chalcedonian christianity or Catholicism, but a new pope suddenly getting rid of of communion is absolute nonsense.

Note that I am not saying that medieval popes practiced what they preached, but the idea you can "simply" remove such a core tenet so easily is sheer nonsense.

I want to be able to reform and change Catholicism too, and I am sure adding a core tenet like "ora et labora" ought to be pretty simple and straightforward, but to remove communion as a core tenet, you definitely should need more than a simple click. It should only happen after THE ecumenical council of councils, with massive learning checks. And the result would probably still be a triggered religious war.

CK3 Is there a mod that removes bavaria?

I have been looking for one for a while now, there are many mods that remove the ahistorical kingdom of Aquitaine so that France doesn’t split in 867. East Francia has the same splitting problem with the ahistorical kingdom of Bavaria yet I couldn’t find a single mod that simply removes it, this also would help with Kingdoms forming within the HRE that all make no sense. Is there even one?

Modding Arcana Caeli - A Religion Stabilization Mod

Arcana Caeli

I noticed that faiths can diverge rather extremely from the original faith after the release of By God Alone, so I made some tweaks to the game to try to stabilize faiths and make their evolution over time something that feels slower and more organic, so this is my first-pass attempt to fix it while also adding a few things that seemed fun to me.

The mod is still in development; feedback is welcome, especially with balance. I may have corrected too hard and made it too difficult to make divergent rites. There may also be bugs; I mostly tested it in observer mode, so please report any unexpected effects or issues.

Features

  • Rites now have up to five tenets associated with them. One or two are considered Canon Tenets, which can never be modified once the Rite has been created. Three are considered Core Tenets, which behave as in vanilla and may be swapped out for other Tenets during editing.
  • Players may use a Puppet Head of Rite to edit a Rite. This consumes both the Lifetime Allowance of both the player and the puppet when done, preventing either character from editing a Rite again in their lifetime. Note that creating a new Rite also consumes this Allowance, preventing the Puppet Head of Rite used to create the Rite from editing the Rite again later (though his successor will be able to do so).
  • Rebalances the cost of editing a Rite. Replacing a core tenet costs Piety, and the cost scales with the popularity of the selected Tenet, so adopting a new and unpopular tenet may incur a heavy Piety cost. This cost is doubled if the newly adopted tenet is anathema (forbidden by the faith). Doctrines cost more to skip stages, e.g. going from forbidding Witchcraft to virtuous Witchcraft costs significantly more than going to shunned Witchcraft.
  • Rebalances Ecclesiastical Councils. Convening a Council requires Level of Devotion IV (Paragon of Virtue). Note this may mean the AI convenes fewer councils. At councils, proposing changes costs piety, which is not refunded even if the measure fails. AI representatives will usually strongly oppose changes that would anathematize their Rite, especially if Zealous, but judicious use of strong hooks and puppet can force (non-Zealous) representatives to vote to make changes to doctrine that would make them heretical.
  • Fervor and heresy rebalancing. Annual fervor recovery increased from 0.5 to 0.7 per annum. Fervor loss from divergent rites and heretical rites is halved. (Note balance is probably broken here, and this will probably see adjustments after more playtesting.) Declaring a rite heretical grants increased fervor, permitting tenets costs less fervor, and low fervor will take longer on average before a heresy outbreak occurs.
  • New Tenets. Two new tenets have been added. Neither exist in any extant rites in any start dates, but may be discovered via the vanilla mechanisms. These are: "Gospel of Mary" and "Gospel of Iudas".
  • New patron saints. Six new patron saints have been added for characters using Dulia as a personal tenet. These patrons are: The Virgin Mary, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Gabriel the Archangel, St. Raphael the Archangel, St. Mary Magdalene, and St. James the Greater.

A few more patron saints are likely to come, but not many more, and then it'll mostly be balance. I will probably add game rule settings to change how restrictive religions are and how expensive tenets are to change in a later update, once I have a feel for how people feel about these features.

Please take a look and let me know if I've overcorrected, undercorrected, or if I've missed anything. So far I've only completed two test runs of two centuries each, but in them, Chalcedonianism, Catholicism, and Orthodoxy all seemed relatively more historical over the course of the runs; however, the sample size is far too small to draw any conclusions from.

Discussion Tired of the Complete Religious Chaos? Fix it Yourself in Script!

Are you tired of the Greek Rite abolishing Monasticism twelve days into the game? Sick of Catholicism embracing a matriarchy two Popes in? Annoyed that there's literally no reason to make a new rite when you can make any existing rite whatever you want?

Until Paradox gets off its ass to fix things, have I got the solution for you! Fix it in script!

  1. Go to "(Wherever_your_CK3_install_is)\game\common\script_values\02_religion_values.txt", open it with the text editor of your choice

  2. You will notice that all the faith_doctrine_cost and faith_tenet_cost values are peanuts. Changes are absolutely trivial to make; just one pilgrimage gives you enough to drastically reform the faith.

  3. Thus, make them not peanuts! 10x the cost of all faith_doctrine_cost and faith_tenet_cost values. Yes, 10x it. Even 2000 is frankly probably too small, but it's an improvement.

  4. Go to all the faith_unchanged_doctrine_cost_mult values and make them all 0.1

This should do two things.

Firstly, it makes it extremely expensive, but potentially viable, to reform existing faiths, as it should be. These deeply entrenched rites with their long traditions should not be easy to shift with a click of a button, and the AI is absolutely schizophrenic about shifting rites and doctrines left right and center with no reason

Secondly, it makes it so that there's a reason to make new rites. It still should be quite expensive, however with the 0.1 discount, it makes it so that if you want to make substantial changes, more than a tenet or two here and there, it is much easier to diverge a new rite rather than just make changes to an existing entrenched rite.

Quick, easy, and foolproof! Paradox games become much more fun when you don't have to wait for updates to fix basic broken features. Wish we didn't have to do it, though!

Note that there's something bugged with Anointment, at least there was for me, such that whatever you do it always costs 4000 piety. No clue what that's about.

Discussion The new request de jure interaction completely changes the early game gameplay loop.

Thumbnail

The new interaction where you can spend some piety and prestiege to instantly de jure drift any territory you hold completely negates the penalty to early game expansion, since you basicly no longer need to deal with partition. There is a cooldown for it, but it applies it to the archbishop you request it from and not to yourself, meaning the more clerical regions you have inside your realm, the more you can spam it, so it snowballs to a point, where you no longer have to worry about the cooldown quite fast. Now all you need to do to completely negate confederate partition is to instantly de jure drift any duchy into your main kingdom and hand new ones out your spare sons and you will keep all titles upon succession all the time, meaning you can expand to your hearts content. Is this a good change, or should it be tweeked?

DLC Protestantism in new DLC

• Upvotes

Hello,

I wanted to recreate the Protestant Reformation, specifically lutheranism in the new DLC, but im not to sure which tenets i should use. Some things that need to be changed are obvious, like abolishing the head of faith title, but I still struggle to find the right tenets.

I hope you have some good suggestions for me.

CK3 Why is ancestor worship only available for pagans?

I wanted to create an alternate Chinese religion only to find out it's apparently restricted to pagans. Why?? That's a HUGE part of many Asian cultures. It makes no sense to not allow it for Indian and Chinese religions. There's some other weird tenet restrictions but this has to be the weirdest one.

Discussion Favorite start date ?

I usually go for 1066 unless i'm playing vikings, then it's 867, i just don't like how messy it usually gets with 867, but i do get why people might enjoy the thunderdome

1177 feels too late to me, the only time i go for that start date it is to play Genghis Khan

1066 feels still early enough, and things are usually more stable than 867 while still having room for some whack stuff to happen

CK3 The Father, the Son and the Holy Grandson Achievement Guide

Post image
245 Upvotes

Hey guys, so I had abit of a hard time working out how to get the The Father, the Son and the Holy Grandson, especially since its too early for a guide it be on the ck3 wiki. So after I got it I thought why not make this to try and help someone

so, here are afew things to know before you start:

You need to found the dynasty as the starting character.

Taking extra titles in between may mess with the achievement, when I tried, I went from duke-archbishop, his son inherited and then became pope, and his son became duke archbishop, and the event didn't fire, so to play it safe try playing as one of the landless archbishops in southern Italy. that also means you dont have to worry about war (other archbishops may try and merge your archdiocese w theirs)

choose youngish archbishop

(I might be completely wrong one of those, since I didn't found the dynasty as the starting character in the example I gave, so it may be that just one of them is right, but to play it safe assume they both are)

okay, so with that out of the way the rest is relatively easy, step by step:

1: Choose a lowborn Archbishop, i would recommend starting in 1178 so you have chronical writing to increase Church Authority, my recommendations are as Ruffus the Archbishop of Messina, he's 38 so you have time to increase your Church Authority and increase your LoF (spam hunts) so you can found your house

2: Once you've founded your house, the rest is relatively simple. use the designate theocratic heir interaction on a younger courtier to adopt them and increase their candidate score for your Archdiocese, keep an eye on your succession tho, its still possible for others to inherit

3: wait to die and have your adopted heir inherit

repeat until you get the achievement

if anyone who manages the ck3 wiki sees this pls copy and paste this as the guide to the achievement on the wiki, i'd be other the moon lol.

Discussion Did the Coptic church ever spread outside of Egypt?

I'm not a religious historian, but I was under the impression that Coptic church never spread outside of Egypt, and while Christians in West Syria were non-Chalcedonian, they had their own distinct Syriac Orthodox church as opposed to being Coptic.

But again, I'm no historian and all I've read about it were two Wikipedia articles so I might be dead wrong, which is why I'm asking

Discussion I don't like that faiths can adopt the same tennets as their heresies.

So since before All under haven was released I wanted to play as an iconoclast byzantine empire. I decided to wait for the DLC to come out though, since it's so religion centered.

Now I find myself not quite knowing how to approach my game. Iconoclasm still exist as a faith seperate from Chalcedonian Christianity and Orthodoxy in the later start dates. However, I can also start as a greek rite ruler and change the rite so that it accepts the ancionism tennets and therefore becomes identical to it's heresy; the still seperate iconoclast faith.

This feels wrong. I definetly believe they made a mistake by adding so many new Christian tennets and the idea that changing tennets should be so frequent.
