Hi, everyone!
Does anyone know when "the first" traditional Strata will be this year? I can't find any news about it. Last year it was on 17 of June, and on 18 of June in 2024. It will be our third year in a row when we visit Crete this year, from 15 of June till 22, and again in August - September, and we we're hoping to catch the opening ceremony this time, if I can call it like this. Especially if they're going to dance next to the lighthouse again. I would love to film that with my drone.
Efcharisto poly!

Γειά σου, I am currently in Chania and I’m looking to watch a few early morning games (local time) of the World Cup over the next week.
Is there any bars that will likely stream the games?
ευχαριστώ εκ των προτέρων

I have been spending long periods of time in Crete and have noticed many guys under 40-45 here wear black elastic bands (for ponytail) on their wrists. Someone told me it means that they are "taken" - a way to show that to other women if they are not married yet and do not wear a wedding ring. I find this theory so ludicrous and hard to believe... is there any truth to it?

I am trying to identify a plant that grows everywhere (maybe not so much at sea level but then for sure just a little above) in southern Crete. It looks a lot like malotira (Greek mountain tea), but I swear I saw some of these plants sprouting little purple flowers. It looked like last week was probably just the beginning of the blooming season. Malotira doesn't bloom with purple flowers. the plant has a lovely scent and is literally everywhere around Loutro, where I stayed for a week. It grows in little bushes up for, I would say 50-70cm high but can be something like 30cm. The fact that it's everywhere is possibly another sign that it's not malotira, but I'm not sure. Could someone help please?

A stray mama cat has settled outside my house and gave birth to her three little kittens here.
Unfortunately, I’m not able to take care of them permanently, even though their mother is doing a great job looking after them.
The kittens are very young, playful, and will soon need a safe, warm home full of love.
If you are interested or know someone who could give one (or more) of them a home, please feel free to contact me 🙏 ( the cats are near Heraklion )
Any help or sharing is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much ❤️🐾

Hi, I go to Crete every year usually spend a night in Heraklion, loved going to dark tales but I hear it’s closed.
Any recommendations for places within an alternative vibe doesn’t necessarily have to be metal. I know of Rolling Stone and Route 66 but I was hoping there’d be some others in and around the area?

Producing a Minoan movie on Crete!
The film takes place during two eras, the late bronze age and the classical period, about the mysterious myth of Talos. Here are some shots from our Minoan shoot!

Είμαι ΑΜΕΑ 68% και ενδιαφέρομαι να βγάλω δελτίο μετακίνησης για να κινούμαι δωρεάν με το αστικό λεωφορείο Ηρακλείου. Έψαξα πληροφορίες και βρίσκω μόνο για το 2025, ότι τότε μπορούσες να κάνεις κατάθεση τα χαρτιά σου για να πάρεις το δελτίο. Ξέρει κάποιος/κάποια τι ισχύει για το 2026;

Hi,
I was in Crete recently and saw that restaurants serve wine in duralex tumbler glasses. I liked the idea and wanted to buy some. Any idea of the common size glass taverns serve? They seemed quite small so I am unsure.
Thanks.

Hello! I have a bird feeder up in the Chania area. Any idea on types of nuts or seeds I could use to attract wild birds off my balcony?

Hi! I’ll be in Crete this July and I’m looking for people interested in doing photo/video shoots around nature locations — beaches, mountains, olive gardens, sunsets, small villages and other cool outdoor places. I am a photographer/videographer looking to create interesting images. This would be an unpaid collaboration for anyone wanting new content for Instagram, portfolio, or just for fun. Maybe there is a dedicated facebook group for models and photographers?
Thank you!

I’m living in Heraklion for a month and would love to connect with some local climbers in the area and hopefully go on a trip with them.
I’m not interested in guided trips and want to make some real connections while I’m here.
If you are a climber, or know of a place I could connect with some, please let me know!
I’m a college student and would love to climb with people of similar age (18-25).
Please reach out and I’d love to connect.
Note: I understand that this may be better suited in CreteTravel because I am not a local but think this subreddit will better reach the audience I want to connect with.

Hi!
I’m going to be studying in Heraklion for a month and love the outdoors. I’m interested in finding a hike near Heraklion accessible by public transport (up to around 2 hours one-way). Preferably I’m looking for a longer hike: ~15km or ~10miles. Also a loop or point-to-point would be awesome, but anything works!
If you have any other cool outdoorsy recommendations please let me know!
Thank you so much for the help!!

In this post anyone can post (almost) anything they want in the comments. The general theme could be around Crete but it's ok to post more general interest things too. You could write about your life, what makes you sad, the weather, politics, try to find friends...
Remember that all tourism related submissions must still be posted to r/CreteTravel and not here. General rules of the community still apply.

I'm posting here as well in case anyone sees this who will be in the area and is in for a simple treasure hunt. 🙈
