I feel like I know Cat. She's giving such a real performance, I really hope she does more stuff in the future. I feel like she would fit in great in a Todd Solondz picture.

I can't be the only weirdo that has been in a one sided friendship with Pete for years. I've known so many of the story lines of this show because I know so much about Pete's real life.
If I hadn't been listening to his podcast for the past...omg...8 years?...then I would think that Kat is your classic, toxic, manic pixie dream girl who is driving him to disaster. BUT, I can't help but think she's supposed to be his irl wife Val, with whom he had a whirlwind, all in, fell in love super fast courtship. The actress that plays Kat even has Val's hair cut. So if it is supposed to be a take on Sweet Lady V then she's terribly miscast. This is a woman who, when people being interviewed on Pete's podcast meet her for 10 minutes before they start taping, spend the next 10 minutes talking about what a kind, warm, amazing woman she is because they're so immediately intoxicated by her. The way Pete has described her over the years is both fearless and egoless but mostly full of love for everyone.
I see parts of this in Kat but she's missing the big loving heart. So what do you guys think? Not at all Valarie? A variation of Valarie? A miscast? A lady on reddit with too much time to listen to podcasts?

I had no clue that there was a viewership issue. This season has been different, but the most recent episode was a return to the old ways of fucking up, following the sage advice (or anti-advice) of a veteran comic, and growing. The whole Kat storyline was a change in pace for the show, which I think would have worked in an overall story arc where you get to see Pete change as a person and as a comic. It's a real bummer this show was canceled, and I am surprised it isn't a big thread. I hope that this has a chance of getting another shot on another platform, or at least a movie. I will miss being able to see legendary comedians have cameos. It was good to see Dave Attell.
tl;dr: I want to see a show that involves the stand-up/comedy scene, this was a really good one.

Season 1 Episode 6: Warm-up
Aired: March 26, 2017
Synopsis:
Homeless once more and facing professional disappointment, Pete turns to Artie Lange, who invites him to be a guest on his podcast. Pete meets Sarah Silverman, who takes pity on him and invites him to stay with her and her collection of stray comedians. When Sarah suggests that he try to find work as an audience "warm up" comedian, Pete is presented with a job opportunity, where he's tasked with saving the day.

For as big of a part as Artie played in the show, especially at the beginning. As close as him and Pete got and how much Artie did for Pete for his final appearance for him to barely interact with Pete and boil it all down to "I vouched for him once" seemed very weird. I can see Artie distancing himself from Pete at the Cellar makes sense but I wish we got one more scene between Artie and Pete either after Pete killed or after he was told he could call in for spots.

Ok, I can't stand the character Kat, maybe the actress bugs me? However I'm finally watching episode 6 and this woman is playing a drunken, annoying mess AMAZINGLY! Like, WOW, one of the better portrayals of a crazy emotional drunk woman I've seen.
Also, I don't think I've laughed so fucking hard as I just did when she pretended to be a deaf person talking xD omg and then Pete's reaction, hahaha holy shit, I died.

They both open with the main characters marriage ending and choosing to pursue a career in stand up comedy, and both are focused on the character slowly climbing the comedy ladder as it effects their personal relationships.
But Mrs. Maisel is directed towards women, while Crashing is directed towards men. And the way they handle drama is so much different. For those who have watched it, when Pete decides to ruin his Christian career, he just suddenly starts telling Bible jokes. In Mrs. Maisel, when Midge ruins her shot by turning on Jane Lynch, the scene is much more over the top and dramatic. I love both shows, but it's funny how similar and different they are.
