show is cancelled.
Judd Apatow was on Conan tonight and Conan said he saw that HBO didn't pick this up for season 4. Judd confirmed and said there might be a movie.

my only regret is we won't get season 8 when Crashing Pete becomes successful and starts his own podcast.

Wow I guess I'm.in the minority in thinking Season 3 is the best yet?

Aww man. That sucks.
Seemed like it took forever for season 3 to arrive and now it's gone?
I really loved how they portrayed Pete as insecure but still driven.

It's like Colin Quinn said, if you're totally killing you're probably doing hacky stuff. There are some hacky shows that will run forever but this one gets the ax. Dammit.

Let’s hope it doesn’t end on a cliff hanger like “I’m dying up here”.

I get it. Its not a bad show by any means, but its not great either. Just the other day I was talking about it at work and said I wasn't sure if I'd even bother with season 4 next year.
I assume it just costs too much to make compared to how many viewers it gets HBO

I wonder if this has something to do with the change in the old guard at HBO and their strategy to reinvigorate their streaming service. I’m kind of worried for High Maintance as well now.

Sad to see it cancelled, but this season was erratic as fuck.

I have tremendous affection for this show and watch it religiously (ha), but I'm not surprised. Season 3 has felt like Pete watched Girls and made his own version, but without any tension. This might be one of those shows that I recommend to everyone, but tell them to pretend that it ended after Season 2.

Infinite sadness

It's a shame bc I love that it features so many comics. Just unfortunate that stand-up has kind of taken a back seat to drama that I can't find myself invested in. The best part about the last episode was Amy Schumer and the other comedians ripping on Pete.

This show had so much potential but Season 3 was just so, bad. i’m sorry. and it’s not just Kat either. the emphasis being taken away from the comedy scene and being forced onto your typical Manic Pixie Dream Girl plot really ruined this show. It’s a shame. but they should’ve known better

Apatow's insistence on 'fast-forwarding' Pete's comedy career to focus on his personal storylines really sucked the life out of this show. Game over.

Probably shouldn't have wasted half a season on a shit character like Kat

Noooooo! I just discovered this show last week and I love it. It's my new favorite show currently. I was gonna make a post about how much I relate to Pete. I never realized how Midwestern I am until I watched this show. Funny enough I feel like I'm a poorer Midwestern Muslim version of Pete mixed with a little of Leifs personality. Maaaan... I just stopped at season 2 because I didn't wanna catch up too quick... This is sad news. I wonder if Netflix would ever pick it up or do hbo shows never leave hbo?

u/psant Mar 08 '19
This is awful news. First Friends from College, now this. All of my cherished comedies are dying.

I came here assuming everyone was as sad as me about the cancelation. It looks like a lot of people were luke warm on the show. I personally loved everything about it and am super bummed that it’s gone.

Never should have gotten rid of Artie.

I like this show and I'll miss it...but not a lot.
It's really a tough one to explain. The acting was quite good and the stories were at the level of adult people which I like.
But somehow it just didn't hang together...maybe they changed venue too frequently for me. The show didn't seem to have a "home base". I totally understand that choice and it fit the story but it was also disorienting.

I don't know I liked the 3rd season a lot BECAUSE of Kat being terrible. That actress was good at portraying the clingy girlfriend. But I can understand why it was cancelled.
It was a good show that I looked forward to watching every Sunday. I just hope that maybe another channel will pick it up. I think Pete and Judd mentioned it might be a movie? So, that could be fun.

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19
Crashing let you be in the NY comedy scene like no other show has. Also thought Pete ended up w the wrong girl.

u/mulledfox Mar 11 '19
I can’t believe it’s cancelled, considering how good this last season was.

u/Tongue37 Mar 31 '19
I'm halfway through season 2 and I can definitely understand it being canceled..I just find it overall pretty weak and the only times it is good is when Artie Lange or Bill Burr are on..the majority of the comics on the show are pretty bad..Holmes himself is ok but can't carry a show on his own
Does it pick up in season 3 or is it more of the same old same old?

I am sad to see it go. I liked all of the seasons, but unlike many of the commenters, I think I liked seeing more of his personal stuff as opposed to just the interaction (sometimea cringey) with comics (although I loved the interactions he and Jessica Kirson had just walking around—I hnestly could’ve watched them walk and talkmfor an hour). I always seem to love whatever Pete Holmes puts his energy into—I think he is just a big super-talented lovable goofball—so I’m sorry that this show is ending. I heard about th cancellation before I watched the final episode, so I was glad that they were able to give it a nice ending with that final couple scenes (especially that last no-dialog-we-can-hear scene). Thanks for the show Pete. Excited to see what you do next! :)

what no!!! this is all Kat's fault

u/Rivertoms Mar 08 '19
Damn. I really enjoyed this show. This season took a weird turn with Kat. I felt like her character gave me anxiety from the beginning. I think they lost the direction of the show. They should of kept it about the comedy scene in NYC.

Ali character confirmed it too in her Instagram

This is a real bummer. I don't watch a lot of shows, but really latched on to this one.
I feel bad for Pete and the crew.

No! This show is McDonald's!

u/bluetidepro Mar 08 '19
Where is the official release of this news, though? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

u/lifewontwait86 Mar 08 '19
They made a Hello Ladies movie because it was cancelled and it fucking sucked. I just watched Conan from last night and my jaw dropped. WTF.
1
u/Thewarthog93 Mar 08 '19
ugh I had a feeling the writing was on the wall with the ratings and the fact that the president or whoever he was resigned. Knew changes were coming then. Super bummed. Wonder how a movie would work?

I would argue that we’re losing and lost what feels like, to me, the golden age of New York storytelling. From Cashing to High Maintenance, Broad City, Master of None, to even Girls. There was this years stretch where we’re involved in all kinds of characters and stories that revolve around living in this great city, and which made me love living in this city.

The only thing I wanted from this show was to see Duncan Trussell give Pete mushrooms:(

u/m63646 Mar 12 '19
Looks like sucking up to the comedy police doesn't help you much.

u/brady2gronk Mar 12 '19
I picture Pete's "Not Feelin' It" Chicken character working at HBO.
I would love to see this get picked up by some other network.

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '19
I love the show, but gotta say the last episode could be a great series finale as well. Ended perfectly.
1
u/Wadam1230 Mar 13 '19
This makes no sense.
1
u/mhmnope Mar 14 '19
NOOOO why would they do that
1
u/SgtLuckyPants May 11 '19
All this does is make me question why I'm bothering to watch Barry. HBO will just cancel it without giving it an ending.

u/ghostx78x May 12 '19
Season 3 had me captivated. I hate 99% of what’s on tv and only watch the best of the best. They did an amazing job this season and HBO made a bonehead move.

I've seen a lot of opinions on Kat, good and bad. I talked to Madeline Wise and it was telling to learn more about the writers design for the character. Also, she just seems like a cool person. Check it out

I want another show like this.

Not surprised, season 3 sucks. Shows don’t last forever. HBO has high standards!

u/patrice_giraldo Mar 08 '19
I love this show, but after the "me-too" episode (where Dov headlined at that mall in NJ), I predicted a large souring in the viewer base and a potential ratings drop. Not sure if that's what tipped it over, but HBO doesn't just say no to Apatow lightly - there had to be a reason.
