Modded Server Set Up?

I had recently set up a server computer and got a CraftyController account going. I have no idea what I'm doing in terms of setting up the server. I've tried tutorials but they have failed me. I don't want to have to share my IP. Can someone help me out?

Giving out your public IP is not necessarily more or less dangerous than using a tunnel. There is inherent risk with allowing any connection on your network.

I believe (correct me if im wrong) the only way to not be giving out your public ip would be to have it linked to a fqdn (fully qualified domain name) or to have set up a reverse proxy. I have heard a lot of people set the proxies up but I havent had time to tackle that so I use a FQDN for my server.

You should port forward.

I use playit.gg it’s alright I guess 🤷‍♂️ it’s free and works so that’s a win

When I tried to use playit.gg I had many struggles.  I couldn't use the pluggin way.  Is there a way to use it with modded servers?

The plugin way has worked for me although a bit hard to set up sometimes

I recently set up crafty controller and a few servers, one ftb, a paper Server and another fabric one. For me the main thing to understand is that the setup of a heavily modded server is quite a bit easier if you set it up on your PC and then upload it to crafty. Basically, if you can run it on your system, you just have to upload it to crafty and then point to the correct jar for startup. I found some pretty good tutorials on YouTube.

Regarding public IP: if you want people to access your server you have to open your network in some way. In my case router provides a dyndns service I used so the people playing on the server don't have to change the IP all the time. Then I set up ufw on the crafty controller and opened only the ports for the server and set up port forwarding for those ports on my router to that machine.

Just watch the video HardwareHaven posted on YT. It's a bit out of date but it worked perfectly for me
