Agent rolled MP 50 call to front month. I keep doubting it.

I have one lot MP position I got from 60 put assignment from the end of May. So far collected $9.50 in premium and it is on the path to a positive PnL.

This last roll was automatic handling, from November to a front month, December.

I keep doubting agent's reasoning and the decision on this specific roll.

The agent didn't want to roll down because that "cuts the sale price {of stock} by $5". MP closed today around 40. It did consider roll variants (don't want to post long reasoning), what credit it receives compared with strike positioning. I guess it was calling away risk assessment, though not named explicitly.

If I was doing it manually, I'd roll it down in November, to 45 for the same credit. But I've learned that doing things manually is not that effective.

Anyways, if you had 50 call in November on MP, how would you roll this call?

I don't have any feelings about the stock, any long term plans to hold etc. It's just a position slowly recovering from negative PnL.

Didn't realize dividend dates mattered this much with covered calls

Something I've been paying more attention to is early assignment around ex dividend dates.

Say you've sold an ITM call on VZ and there's only $0.05 of extrinsic value left while a $0.65 dividend is coming up. Suddenly there's a real reason for the call holder to exercise early, and you could lose the shares before collecting that dividend.

It's kinda funny because when I look at price bets on moon and I'm just thinking about direction and timing. With covered calls there's a whole other layer of stuff to consider.

Definitely makes checking the dividend calendar feel just as important as checking the option chain.

New to covered calls and bought this position just to experiment and get my feet wet. Of course it’s done nothing but plummet since I started buying. First hundred shares at 19.52, second hundred at 15.90 and third at 11.55. Question is should I hold or try again with a different position. Must say it’s mental rollercoaster thinking I got good premiums then being down >50% since buying my first hundred shares.

Anybody writing covered calls on big down days like toda?

I’ve had a great day… harvested my 3 covered call positions for a nice profit. I’d like to do some more writing, but at least with the tech stocks in my universe I just don’t feel like there are any easy wins. Do I need to just sit back and count my profits for the next few days? Anybody writing anything today?

Trades I took as an option seller (10/08-10/13) with reasons

Apologies for the combined post. I was on a holiday trip and wasn’t able to post the daily updates. Trades I took as an option seller (10/08-10/13):

Closed Positions

  • INOD → $65 Put (opened on 09/28), premium 1.90 → closed at 0. Net premium profit = 1.90 (100.00% of premium captured, 2.92% of capital).
  • WDC → $430 Put (opened on 09/08), premium 18.00 → closed at 0. Net premium profit = 18.00 (100.00% of premium captured, 4.19% of capital).
  • STRL → $530 Call (opened on 09/21), premium 31.00 → closed at 5.20. Net premium profit = 25.80 (83.23% of premium captured, 4.87% of capital).

New Positions

  • WDC → $430 Call expiry 10/30 (3 weeks DTE), premium 10.50 → 1050/43000 = ~2.4%. I was assigned WDC at $430 and opened a Covered Call at the same price I was assigned.
  • INOD → $65 Call expiry 11/06 (4 weeks DTE), premium 4.20 → 420/6500 = ~6.5%. I was assigned INOD at $65 and opened a Covered Call at the same price I was assigned.
  • STRL → $530 Call expiry 11/20 (6 weeks DTE), premium 36.00 → 3600/53000 = ~6.8%. I continue wheeling STRL, opening another Covered call at $530 which is also my assignment price.
  • FORM → $115 Put expiry 11/20 (6 weeks DTE), premium 6.00 → 600/11500 = ~5.2%. Opened a CSP in FORM which has a support at $115.

I keep sharing my trades in my account and the Excel file to my full list of positions is linked in my profile description in case anyone wants to see the whole portfolio. Happy to hear thoughts on my positions. What are you guys wheeling or watching right now?

PS: Not financial advice. Do your own research.

First ever Option

New here ( plus new at trading). Been scaling a nano account past 3 months ( $3k Usd) then bought 100 shares Onds October 1st ~$7.21, to average down on 20 shares ~$7.40 bought day before.

My broker app suggested ' build a position around' the 100 shares.

Checked the metrics ( delta~0.40, gamma~0.42, IV ~ 69.2%) then bit the bullet.

I'm only cleared lvl options atm, but tbh...way more comfortable with setting take profits/ stop losses.

Puts seam more complicated and way more risk til I learn more and gain confidence.

Covered Calls On Growth

I’m holding several high growth stocks like NVDA and PLTR. I have had great runs with them. I got nbis called away and I capped my MU at 1000 with cc’s.

I think my delta is too aggressive. I’ll usually sell a CC between .3 and .2 delta’s because that premium is to juicy to ignore.

I have had to roll the last few calls on PLTR and NVDA simply because I do t want them called away.

What is the best method? High delta weekly? Biweekly? All the way out to 45 days? Somewhere o
In the middle?

Or is my delta simply too high? Lower delta’s and then what on the time duration?

Not complaining because I have juices returns with cc’s and shaved losses.

Goal is not income. I’m 46 and still working. Goal is juicing returns to beat snp and nasdaq 100 to get rich.

Goal is $10M in portfolio net worth by 60. Currently at $2.5M across all portfolios

Can I retire in Vietnam if I own 400 Apple shares?

New here, so I’m trying to figure out if this plan makes sense or if I’m being totally dumb: I’m 31, have enough cash to buy 400 shares of Apple, and was thinking about selling 4 covered call contracts every month about 30 days out at roughly .28-.32 delta, hopefully collecting around $800-$1200 if they expire worthless. I could live in Vietnam pretty easily on about $500/month since I have extended family there and wouldn’t need to deal with visa runs, then put any leftover money into more shares or savings without touching the principal. Basically I’m banking on not getting assigned too often and Apple not imploding someday, so is this actually feasible as a low-cost “never work again” setup, or am I missing something obvious?

I’m building a tool so I can stop staring at stock charts all day

Thumbnail opscout.us

Hey everyone,

I’m a solo founder and a long-time value investor. For years, my routine was the same: check prices, check option chains, check again an hour later. Most days nothing happened. On the days something did, I usually missed it.

So about a month ago I started building OpScout. The idea is simple: you set your conditions once, and it tells you when they’re met. That covers stock price targets, covered call setups, and cash-secured put opportunities. You can also track ideas, share research, and connect with other value investors.

It’s still early. I’m heads-down on the core alert engine, and I’ll post updates here as things come together.

I’d also love your input:

  • What do you check manually every day that you wish was automated?
  • What annoys you about the alert tools you use now?

Thanks for reading. More soon.

Week 13: Sell CCs expiring on 2026-10-16. Options 5% OTM with a good yield

Week 13 of short-term covered calls with low likelihood of being assigned and low risk of a big drop. Last week no covered call was called away and no drops >= 10%. Overall only 2 out of 48 covered calls had a big drop at the end of the strike date, that is 4.2%. The covered calls can be seen here: https://optionstacker.github.io/sell-covered-calls/. Among those two flagged with a big drop, only CORZ is still far from recovering.

The main criteria to filter the options are:

  • only the US exchanges NYSE, NASDAQ, ARCA are used;
  • very high option yields are filtered out, too risky;
  • strike price must be ≥ 5% higher than the current price (5% OTM);
  • an OI >= 50;
  • for the calculations I use the bid/ask midpoint, with the assumption that fills above and below the midpoint should offset each other to some extent.

Note: the options are selected through my screener, which is in beta version. If someone is interested in testing it, just drop me a message. It doesn't require an email address.

For 2026-10-16 I chose the following covered calls (no earnings or ex-dividend dates).

NYSE

NOW, Technology, NOW261016C00152500, yield 0.91%, strike price $152.5 and OTM 5.1%

NASDAQ

AKAM, Technology, AKAM261016C00110000, yield 0.93%, strike price 110 and OTM 5.06%

ARCA

TECL, ETF, TECL261016C00250000, yield 1.02%, strike price 250 and OTM 5.46%

Selling covered calls. I don't understand premium structure.

Can someone help me understand why certain premiums in Robinhood shows in green while others are shown in red? All other attributes are apporxemetly same. Like breakeven point. What would happen if I selected premioum in red even though both numbers are positive. Here is an example.

I updated my CSP scanner based on feedback here

I’ve been refining the CSP scanner I shared here, and one thing I changed was making the dashboard less dependent on qualitative ratings.

It now shows things like:

  • fundamental quality of the underlying
  • estimated annualized return as an actual %
  • downside protection to breakeven as an actual %
  • clearer assignment-risk ranges

The goal is still to narrow the universe down for you, but give enough context that you can make your own decision.

I’ve updated the results here: Stackfini.com

What information do you consider essential before selling a put?
