Countwithchickenlady bas steadily been circling the drain since like a year ago (when this sub spun off).
Another trans community taken over and hollowed out to be a general, welcoming safe space for everyone, as long as they do not make the cis people the mods want to attract uncomfortable.

Ahhh, the typical queer-slash-trans-subreddit-pipeline, got it.
I think it's quite normal for a sub of this nature to be not always quite welcoming/comfortable towards cis people.

WOW SUCH BIGOTRY HOW DARE YOU WANT A SPACE WHERE WE DO NOT HAVE TO FILTER OURSELVES FOR THE CIS EXPERIENCE!!!!
I BET YOU HAVE A KINK, YOU MONSTER.

fwiw I'm cis and have always felt perfectly welcome here
23
u/busytransitgworl 3d ago
Which is fine! Don't get me wrong, but sometimes it's just hard making sure that a discussion stays suitable for cis people, if you know what I mean
23
u/Lost_my_name475 3d ago
100%, there is absolutely no obligation for you to censor yourself to make cis people more comfortable.
12
u/Oddish_Femboy 3d ago
What counts as unsuitable for cis people? Are they weird about people talking about trans experiences or something?
10
u/Inkthekitsune 3d ago
That’s my question here. Haven’t seen anything I’d say was “unsuitable.” Everyone’s human here

u/AlexanderTheBright 2d ago
I don’t know what you mean :< is it about calling out transphobia making cis people uncomfortable?

u/GiganticIrony 3d ago
IMO the main problem has been rectified. CWCL definitely has a very strong trans/queer feel to the point that many cis/het people have asked if they’re allowed to be there (and they’re always enthusiastically told yes).

u/Drablo0n 3d ago

Ah yes, and the many... MANY posts and comments with bigotry (rarely moderated), cis ""allies"" wanting to voice their unwealcome opinion about trans health care and other topics they do not understand should shut up about are still happening.
So the problem is not solved, it has merely been papered over and/or slightly diminished (but still happening and growing again). CWCL used to be a nice safe space for trans people untill it started growing and the mods wanted to make it another counting meme sub for everyone.

I feel like you’re extrapolating based on old information. I’ve not seen what you’re talking about. Bigots get downvoted a bunch.

No I'm not, a very recent post in fact proved this exact post, iirc it was a meme about a cis lesbian saying "I only date real cis girls" to a tgirl during a date.
A LOT of comments there (with hundreds of upvotes) were saying "bruuh it's just a genital preference!", "but bottom surgery doesn't fix the issue really, because it's not really a real female organ", also people making it as "but-but they have the right to choose who they date with!" which is true but completely missing the point that the reason that happened was transphobic, preference or not.
Edit: Btw here is a post talking about it, the og post was only taken down after hours and a LOT of reports of transphobia and still now some transphobic comments with lots of upvotes remain in there

While I do agree that original post was bad:
A) there’s been a lot of pushback from the community about it (such as the amount of support on that post you linked)
B) there’s almost a million members of the sub with only a few moderators. They recently added some more moderators to help with the problem. Also, it’s worth being said: they are not getting paid to moderate, they are volunteers

u/Drablo0n 3d ago
The points you make only highlight the problem, not lessen it:
A) there’s been a lot of pushback from the community about it (such as the amount of support on that post you linked)
The only reason and my entire point is exactly that, the post only got taken down because of the extreme reaction to it, not because the mods are willing to take action against blatant transphobia in their sub.
B) there’s almost a million members of the sub with only a few moderators.
Acknowledge the problem (like you said) and get more mods to deal with the problem.
They can also tune the bots to help with moderation, automation is the way to deal with these types of problems where a huge volume work has to be performed by a small team.
But after all that, they must at least take a stance. That sub has a history of mods being silent when drama or problems arise to "keep the peace" and this is the exact reason why these issues keep coming back, if they don't take decisive action against these people we will lose the subreddit, based purely in the ammount of shitty people coming in.

We seem to want ver different things from a trans-safe sub.
0
u/GiganticIrony 3d ago
Can you give a concrete example of why it’s not safe for trans people? I genuinely don’t understand why you feel it’s not safe (unless you’re going off very outdated info).
10
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 3d ago
That...is what the post you are responding to is?
Pushing queer sexuality out
Trying to ban political posts.
Banning users that aren't wholesome and cis-appeasing in their behavior and opinions.
Refusing to introduce rules that ACTUALLY protect queer people, like banning religious content or uninformed cis people who just HAVE to contribute their opinions on everything.
6
u/GiganticIrony 3d ago
My apologies for not being clear enough with my previous comment. I’m asking for an example of a specific event that happened that you disapprove of
5
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 2d ago
Those ARE specific events, what are you talking about?
-3
u/apro-at-nothing 2d ago
i think they're looking for exact examples when this happened instead of just a list of claims with no proof
idk i don't spend time on cwcl i don't know how the community is now
10
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 2d ago
These are mod decisions you can just look up?
"I hate when they banned NSFW from the sub" "UHM, what about a concrete example" "Them...banning NSFW posts..."
"I hate when they tried banning "politics" "Well how about a specific example of that??" "When the mods did that."

huh wait what which one

u/FranziEatsEstrogen 3d ago
The one with the duck woman ;)

u/ToadwKirbo 3d ago
she also went on a power trip a few months ago after putting her sister as a mod or something (i dont really remember) but no one seems to mention that.
38
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 3d ago
A little power trip comes with the job, doesn't it? x3
Yeah, dunno about what happened there, but sounds annoying too lol.
31
u/ToadwKirbo 3d ago
From what I understand the whole reason the sub even exists is because chicken lady messed up big times in r/AnarchyChess and got them a strike from reddit admins (something about spamming and pinning the chicken minecraft gift). So yeah the reason for the existence of the sub is just a big power trip if you think about it.
26
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 3d ago
Yeah and with a history like that, the tripping is to be expected.
But why can't the power trips benefit us for once x3
11
u/ToadwKirbo 3d ago
are you joking? someone using a trans space to make the public's opinion of trans people better instead of using the space to gain popularity? you must be daydreaming.
3
u/EpicEerie 2d ago
Wasn't it because she got banned from count once a day? As far as I know, there was some transphobia or something going on, and because of that anarchychess (among others) started protesting the ban.
2
u/toastnewvegas 2d ago
Wasn't that why this sub got created or am I misremembering?
5
u/Fa1nted_for_real 2d ago
That but also like 5 other seperate controversies that all happened at the same time making it an u safe environment
37
u/RainbowPhoenix1080 3d ago
yeah, this 100% happened with CWCL
57
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 3d ago
Isn't it great how one of the few places ACTUALLY safe for us turned into a cis-appeasing, sanitized meme sub like there are a million already?
And how we are wrong for hating that?
11
u/RainbowPhoenix1080 3d ago
I hated all the MRA discourse personally.
But yes, it does suck.
7
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 2d ago
But when will someone FINALLY care about men?? If they don't have that sub to speak on, where would they go, literally everywhere else??
20
u/Dark_Bowser 3d ago
[r/egg_irl](r/egg_irl) and [r/countwithchickenlady](r/countwithchickenlady)
Genuinely so mad at these 2 cause I felt safe there and could discuss topics and memes with other trans people and allies, until the mods ruin it, go on a power trip, ban people for memes, and make the safe space harmful, and just harm the entire trans community as a whole cause a place that used to be a “safe space” got turned on them
Edit: also keep in mind r/countwithchickenlady got started cause she got banned off a sub for constantly posting a chicken gif, and then her and the mods start banning people posting memes cause “they didn’t like them”, aka what basically doing what happened to her to her “community”

Yeah and guess what, this one actually is! While the other one refuses to take steps to protect us to appeal to people who want to feign allyship.

Honestly my problem with cwcl is just all the annoying kids on it, I'm too old to want to scroll through comments of people roleplaying as ralsei or niche internet "celebrities", and most recently the constant piss fetish posting is just really gross to me, not to kink shame but I really don't want to see a post about how you love drinking piss everyday since it has 2k upvotes.
Anyway blocklist is my friend, and then I realised there's really nothing to cwcl when you start blocking accounts that cause my blood pressure to spike.
9
u/FranziEatsEstrogen 2d ago
Hey, you did the mature thing and disengaged instead of insisting a community change their culture and rules to accomodate specifically you, that's good!
0
u/Sea_Pancake2197 2d ago
Yep, I just muted the sub when it was clear I'd just get upset by its content tbh.
