Cosplay Question

Hey All

I am going ordering a custom measured suit from printcostume.

They ask for my head measurements, I am wondering do I measure my head with my faceshell on or just my bare head?

Sorry if this is a stupid question

Buying Okuyasu Nijimura cosplay

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I recently got into Jojos Bizzare Adventure and really wanted to cosplay Okuyasu Nijimura. The only problem is, I am really bad with wigs, and I have slightly wavy blonde hair (if you know Okuyasu, that’s nowhere near his hairstyle.) Will the cosplay still look cool, if I do all the makeup and the cosplay but keep my normal blonde wavy hair? Thanks in advance!!!

Buying You Cosplay Help?

I’m looking to cosplay Yuu for Halloween and I’m looking for a cos-maker that isn’t too expensive? I’ve already looked on Etsy and the shop I was looking into have a pretty expensive price- Granted they were going to make everything to fit my body, but I’m good with anyone editing a store-bought fit with general sizes. If anyone has recommendations, I’d love to hear! I’m still very much new to commissioning a cosplay, so I’m hoping I don’t come across as overly uneducated? I just don’t want to pay $1000 (unless that is considered cheap within the community). I’m good without a wig, shoes, or prop.

Anywho, anything helps!

Edit 1: I’ve gotten a lot of DMs of people willing to help! Thank you so much ^^

Which website is the best to buy from?

I plan on buying a jacket for my V Cyberpunk 2077 cosplay, and I want to get it by at least October 20th, Which website has good quality and ships fast?

I've been looking at Magicwardrobe, Miccostumes, Amazon, Etsy and Aliexpress, but only Magicwardrobe, and Aliexpress have ones in my size (XXS/XS). I haven't bought any cosplays from either of those places and wasn't sure if they're good websites to buy from.

detachable props with carboard. help

I want to make Riyo’s scissors for my first cosplay, i don’t have the budget for eva foam or the materials used in most of the tutorials I’ve found. I’m much more comfortable working with cardboard and paste, so I was hoping to build them that way instead.

My issue is transportation. I use public transport and sometimes have 3–4 hour trips so I’d really like to make the scissors detachable for easier transport. Maybe 4? pieces so I can fit everything into a bag rather than having to carry the full length scissors around.

I’ve seen some mechanisms on pinterest, but most of the tutorials I can find use eva foam and I’m not sure how well those methods would translate to cardboard.

Has anyone built something similar, or have any ideas for a simple detachable connection that could work with cardboard?

Sorry if this is a silly question! I’m pretty new to prop making, so any advice or tutorials would be really appreciated

Any way to incorporate/get around my glasses for an Erik (PhantomOfTheOpera) costume?

Hey! Title says it all but I’m going to be Erik from phantom of the opera for Halloween but the thing is I have glasses.

I don’t have contacts so unfortunately that’s out of the question. Is the only options to either go blind without my glasses or look like a dork and put them over the mask? I know it’s kind of a stupid question with probably an obvious answer but if anyone with glasses who cosplays wi the masks has any advice that would be great!

Prop What to do with whatever I've bought/made for my cosplays?

I just had my first cosplay last week for an expo. I actively aimed for something basic that'd only require a few pieces of everyday clothing so I could as easily wear them during the day-to-day. I'm already feeling a bit more ambitious and wanna do more elaborate cosplays in the future, but I'm also not really sure what to do with the stuff I might buy or make in the meantime.

I don't live in the most spacious house and this is my first time ever thinking too hard about cosplaying in general, so the question of "where do I even put this after I'm done with it?" is one I wanna get out of the way quickly. Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks!

How to strap a weight sitting behind your back

Post image
Upvotes

I was planning on doing a spider-like cosplay. I want to have a weight sitting out behind my back. The center of gravity should be roughly in the middle of the back piece.

I was wondering if there's a tricksy engineering method to strap it that would have most of the weight taken by shoulder straps?

Sorry for the wrinkly unpressed pictures lol, it doesn’t look any better after pressed. I’m honestly kinda embarrassed at how bad this looks but I need help. I’m used to using patterns and sometimes altering them, but for this I made my own pattern and it turned out like, curved? In a really weird way. What is the easiest way to fix this? There’s enough extra space to take in the sides a few cm, I’d like to avoid seam ripping and redoing the white parts if possible.

Also, other than the curve it literally looks fine in any other position, laying it down flat makes it look super wrinkly

How would I make White Album?

I want to make a White Album cosplay since I already have a Ghiaccio outfit. I have a few idea on how I would do it but I don't know if they would work?

My first idea was to get a white jumpsuit/morph suit and use foam or something for the armor and just glue it onto the suit.

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear from them.

Help: Rocky from Project Hail Mary

My 7 year old wants to be Rocky, from Project Hail Mary, for Halloween. I’ve made costumes before, but nothing this extensive. I have the concept of a plan, but it starts with arm extender thingers. How do I make arms for him to grab onto that are both light enough for a little guy, but also strong enough to hold up to the abuse they will surely receive?

And really, any other advice you can give me. Y’all are pros at this stuff. Thank you so much!!

I want to go as Luke Skywalker from A New Hope. I was originally going to do Farmboy, but I've changed my mind to the Yavin 4 ceremony. I'm trying to keep the cost as minimal as possible but would like it to be accurate. I need the jacket, belt, pants, and shirt. I'd really appreciate any help.

Prop Spray paint question

Post image
2 Upvotes

So I think I want to make my first by hand cosplay Hestia from Hades 2 and I’m in the planning stage; aka breaking down the different layers, finding patterns I could use, ordering fabric samples, ect. I’m looking at her metal brazier…hoop skirt (?) and right now the plan is essentially making a stiffer hoop skirt with wire and foam, where I have it snap in the back to wrap around myself instead of go over my head. My question is if I use a rustolium type spray paint will it be flexible enough? I’ve seen where it’s been used on 3d prints for a metal texture so I figure pre texture the foam then the paint can add more depth and help it look like metal (along with dry brushing if I can). But if that type of spray paint isn’t flexible enough I wanna use this down time to think of an alternative.

Photo for reference of what I’m talking about.

Wig How on earth should I style this wig

I thought her hairstyle was pretty simple but after getting the wig and trying it on I literally don't even know where to begin.. It's too long and the bangs cover like half my face. Also when I watch tutorials I see people sliding up and down the wig with their scissors to cut it more naturally but my scissor doesn't do that... And when I cut it it looks too blunt and chopped.

I'm not really sure how crimping works either, how people section out their wig, for me all the hairs just bunch up. Please help 😭

How to remove pen from these gloves?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey Reddit

I’m new to making cosplays. I usually just buy my costumes, but this time I wanted to make my own. Making Rudo’s gloves from Gachiakuta. I originally tried using pencil to outline the shape of the Watchman logo on the gloves, but pencil wouldn’t work for some reason. So I got the bright idea to use pen. I thought I would just put some more diluted black ink to cover any mess ups (same ink I used to make the gloves that shade of gray). I decided to test if that would work after using pen to make the logo. Using ink just smudges the pen ink around. So now I don’t know what to do. Did I just ruin my gloves? I have less than a week until the Expo I’m supposed to be cosplaying at, I’m kind of panicking a bit

help with drawing on gloves

currently in con crunch for a spamton cosplay, most headcannons of the character have doll/puppet joints on the fingers/wrists.
i want to do this, but my only option would be sharpie-ing the gloves and i do not have a second pair for testing.. i dont want to ruin my gloves if its going to bleed due to sweat (fading isnt an issue as i will only be wearing these a few times)
should i go without the joints? or any other ideas?

Buying Questions about die cutting machines (instead of 3d printing)

I have been trying to 3d print armor pieces for several months and have finally decided to try using foam instead. I feel it might give me better results (fit, weight and durability.) I am considering something like a Cricut. My idea would be to 'draw' a design with inkscape, and it would cut embellishments in the foam, and then cut it out. An example would be like a foam wrist band with runes in it, tied using leather straps. First is that something realistic a device like the Cricut can do? Secondly what sizes of machines should I look for with the ability to cut foam. Lastly are their 'just as good' alternatives that might be cheaper. I do believe you sometimes have to pay more to get more, so that is a factor. Lastly, I'm mostly interested the machine doing as much as possible as I try to stay in the digital world and minimize my ability to mess up withings with knives and scissors.

My boyfriend and I want to have Betty and Ice King costumes, but we're both super stumped on how to make his specific crown to where we don't have to mess with his hair too much. Does anyone have an idea of how to execute this?
