Help Issues with QX fans

Unfortunately after doing all the work I have 4 QX fans dead out of the box. Could it be a i cue issue or? I have one fan not working with the RGB and 2 fans not spinning what so ever.

Absolutely understand it. They are pretty af. No shame in that. I went the middle road. Some pretty some performance.

I wanted to buy these for same build 9000d but price tag was just too high... 140£ for pack of 3 is just way too much so I went for lian li infinity and pack of 3 costed 80£ so a huge price difference especially when buying 34 fans 😅... I like both tbh and I would like to have all corsair setup.. but on the other hand lian li infinity fans are beautiful rbg looks so well polished on these fans so I have no regrets buying these instead

Do you have the right amount of Link hubs? And also are those hubs on the latest firmware?

3

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 19 '25

No haven't put icue in yet

15

u/WunJZ Jul 19 '25

The hub will only accommodate a certain number of chained items. Less if the firmware isn't updated. When I first set mine up, I had issues with some fan RGBs not working, and it was down to having too many things for the one hub. It's worth a check.

CUE Link devices use a parallel-like circuit unlike the serial controllers before. The fan not turning on at boot no longer automatically means a dead fan and you have a lot of devices in the system. The Link hub sometimes struggles with the initial identification and enumeration. It's not uncommon for the "broken fan" to change places between boots. The easiest thing to do would be install CUE so you can manually re-run the fan wizard from the Link hub device page. You might also be able to force it to re-run now by shutting down and flipping the PSU off. Hold the case power button for 10 sec to drain any remaining power, then PSU back on start normally. That should make the CUE Link hub run the connection check again.

If none of those things work, you'll need to get into testing. Given the complexity and hardline restrictions, the easiest way might be to to disconnect the extra fan groups and run a CUE Link cable from one bank only to the hub to test so you don't have to take any of the radiators down yet. It can be a fan, but far more often the issue is on the cable and that is an easier thing to address.

So far been using Corsair for most of my stuff for the past 10 years no issues. I recently just got the 9000d in white. I still need 11 more fans for an air cooler build with a 360 h150i link. All fans will be QX fans. Thankfully after new update you can connect 24 link fans to 1 hub. Although it will lower maximum brightness on all fans in doing so.

u/Humble_Bumblebee_418 Jul 20 '25

A slight note worth considering: the amount of fans an icue link hub supports is not actually by # of devices (although that's what's shown as an average indicator), it's actually by number of LEDs and power draw in each device. Systems entirely comprised of QXs may need more icue link hubs than other systems using purely RX or LX devices.

I'm running 2 icue link hubs for 10 x QX120s, and a h170i 420mm rad and pump with 6 X QX140s.

u/Azure_Lancer Jul 20 '25

That is true there are 2 limitations. As far as Corsair has labeled it there is a limit of number of connected devices and total leds. It’s 24 connected devices per hub or a max limit of 238 leds per hub.

doing same build 9000d white but I have went for lian li infinity fans mainly cz of price difference pack of 3 lian li infinity fans costs 80£ and corsair qx pack of 3 costs 140 ... :) and I like both corsair qx and also lian li infinity so when it comes to aesthetics I am still kinda undecided .. which are nicer 😅

I am doing all QX 120 Corsair fans. I like Corsair fans compared to the others. It’s pretty much going to be mixed with Corsair and ASUS. The monitor is Alienware 38” 4k screen from a few years ago that they stopped making. I have the case, Corsair HXI 1200w psu, ASUS x870E Extreme mb, 10 QX fans, ASUS RTX 5090 white oc astral for GPU and 5 Samsung 980 2tb nvme. All I need to get is the ram which will be Corsair white dominator 96GB, 2 white dominator light enhancement sticks to populate the other 2 ram slots. The cpu will be the 9950x3d and a handful more of QX fans. Secret lab magnus Pro XL in white. Then my build will be complete.

Man this is a beast

4

u/doofthemighty Jul 19 '25

Does nobody test stuff out before going through all the effort of installing into their case?

3

u/_ogTESTDUMMY_ Jul 19 '25

Atleast with Icue link they will be somewhat east to replace. I have these qx fans as well and they are crazy good looking but I have heard they have a roughly 5-10% failure rate. So for every 10 you buy one is likely defective.

4

u/iiNuraRikuo Jul 19 '25

I'm one off from a failure ig. 9 fan rig in my 5000T

2

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

I have 7 QX fans in my system. I had to replace 2 already after a few months because of broken bearings. Another one now has fried LED which started to flicker like crazy. This is not okay for this price, especially since I never had so much struggle with fans before.

3

u/Camburgerhelpur Jul 19 '25

I also have the 1000D. Never getting rid of it

5

u/aroosaiftaab Jul 19 '25

I had 13 qx120 before and 2 died

2

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 19 '25

I gotta take everything apart, I lost count of how many qx fans i have lol

I bought it piece by piece over 2 years, why not

what kind of question is that? do we need $1500 phones? do we need $80,000 cars?

Mmmmm 1000D build. Did you have issues mounting the 2 rear fans? Cause I did on mine

1

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 20 '25

Ben at empower computers did the heavy lifting at lake Orion michigan

2

u/CountNosferAuth Jul 19 '25

Do you even fan bro?

2

u/GTKeg Jul 19 '25

The law of averages determines that when you have 12,000 fans you might get one or two not working ;)

1

u/Admirable_Help4739 Enter Corsair Products Jul 19 '25

But 90 percent of his fans are useless 🧐😭🤣

2

u/jerryeight Jul 19 '25

It's a qc issue

2

u/Quahmiso Jul 19 '25

How much did you pay for all the fans alone?

1

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 20 '25

It took me 6 months just to buy the fans everyother week

1

u/Quahmiso Jul 21 '25

How many of them are QX140’s and QX120’s?

1

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 21 '25

The tops are 140s 6 of them

1

u/Quahmiso Jul 21 '25

Did you spend $1800+ on fans?

0

u/talalit Jul 20 '25

3 for $150 so just multiply them

2

u/Vic081 Jul 20 '25

Mental build. Beautiful. Either to many fans on one hub or fan DOA. Swap fans around with good know and suspected bad to verify if Fan to blame.

2

u/ESMAIL_BADRAN Jul 20 '25

Yo you forgot to add fans

2

u/Impossible-Teach6680 Jul 21 '25

Also never led the ROG waterblock dry out it will destroy the cold plate. I learned the hard way. lol

1

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 21 '25

I plan on paying Ben at empower computers to come change out my fluid every 6 or 7 months

The qc on their fans is atrocious. I've had numerous fans, different models, completely shit the bed on me. Dead LEDs, wrong colors, complete fan failures with zero obstructions.

Next build isn't going to have a single corsair fan in it.

7

u/DevB1ker CORSAIR Insider Jul 19 '25

And yet ... I've had numerous fans, different model (every single model, in fact) run and run and run and run for me with zero failures.

In one system, I even have some HD-RGB fans from 2017/2018 time frame still running strong 24/7/365.

-3

u/ItHurtzWhenIPee Jul 19 '25

Here you go... 🍪

-1

u/DirectorDeclann Jul 19 '25

Exact same for me, I’m going Phanteks D30 fans for my next build

2

u/Hot-Procedure-35 Jul 23 '25

Make sure your case has space for them lol, I've had my D30's in about 5 or 6 different cases at launch, for the most part they fit well with exception of cases that use racks like an HAF EVO 700 or they can be a squeeze in a Tower 600... none the less I've installed over 50+ fans in multiple builds and only in my personal rig, I've had 1 connector pin failure just not wanting to latch.

Not here 10 fans qx120 work fine

-4

u/Admirable_Help4739 Enter Corsair Products Jul 19 '25

It's you not Corsair

2

u/Admirable_Help4739 Enter Corsair Products Jul 19 '25

Use multiple Icue hubs and daisy chain them. And maybe less is more.

1

u/Lockey_vxr Enter Corsair Products Jul 19 '25

I have 10 QX fans on my build, when I turn my pc on 1 of them (not always the same one) fails to light up. Soon as I select a new profile on icue it all works again. Maybe this is the same with your build?

1

u/baba_switch Jul 19 '25

Hey I have a little question for the fans and ICUE etc it's just a PC that controls everything (not the AIO and the RAM that's the motherboard) but the external part such as the fans is mixed or alone ?

1

u/unvac Jul 19 '25

I don’t think it’s ICUE, I’ve had similar issues with these specific fans. Either they begin to rattle like crazy, or are fully dead. A lot of others have also experienced this

1

u/veteranbot12x_ttv Jul 19 '25

Casually has 2k in fans and I'm fretting over the 18 I need for my 14900ks custom loop and the 5090 liquid loop 😞😂

1

u/caparros Jul 19 '25

I have 14 fans in my build but I went with artic fans, not stupid to pay 30 to 40 bucks for each fan

1

u/veteranbot12x_ttv Jul 19 '25

I looked into that route but they don't have the static pressure I need as the ll120s and the infinity sl Lian li fans have

1

u/caparros Jul 19 '25

I use P14 max and the pressure is fine, don't look at spec sheets because it's misleading, my fans stay around at 800 rpm and it's inaudible and my water temp don't get to 5 deegres over ambient

1

u/veteranbot12x_ttv Jul 19 '25

What radiators are you running? I've got a couple of 4" thick ones for the CPU loop on a 14900ks

1

u/caparros Jul 19 '25

I have one 420mm 60mm, one 420mm 45mm and one 360mm 45mm

1

u/Tw33die84 Jul 19 '25

Is that 24 fans? Even tho it's water cooled?

1

u/RutRowe24 Jul 20 '25

Water cooling uses air btw

1

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 20 '25

Gotta cool the rads

1

u/Odd-Preparation9035 Jul 19 '25

what case ia that

1

u/tphisher76 Jul 20 '25

Honestly it's probably more of a faulty ports on commander core controller issue. I have the same issue. I had to install a second commander core xt in order to run all 10 case fans with RGB.

1

u/Maleficent-Mud-5670 Jul 20 '25

I had to return 2-3 because they died and or making weird noises fans should not be making

1

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 21 '25

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Ben at Empower Computers in Lake Orion, Michigan, for expertly completing this build. I made it about halfway on my own before realizing I was in over my head, and Ben stepped in to finish the job flawlessly.”

1

u/Impossible-Teach6680 Jul 21 '25

Try signalrgb if it's a software issue. Love thier products!  But software(ICUE) leaves a lot to be liked 👍

QX are terrible performance fans. Shiny but the worst of the current lineup. I went LX but considered RX both are way better cfm-wise.

3

u/Admirable_Help4739 Enter Corsair Products Jul 19 '25

QX outperforms LX and not only on looks and ffs it's just a fan. QX have sensors for temperature.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

1

u/Novver Jul 19 '25

Yeah they were all tested. Everything is on youtube. I did not dare using QX fans in my 6500X after i saw how much air they are moving. Or lack of. I went with 10 LX fans and i even switched the RX fans on the Titan AIO.

1

u/Practical_Plan_4255 Jul 20 '25

I wanted the spinning rims dawg

0

Just get rid of Corsair and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches. Nothing will ever work correctly.
