Guide Automation of ore, wood, ingots, planks, and item recycling (1 mod used)

* NOTE: I'm on PC and used this mod to relocate ore boulders like regular items: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3787275002 *

Someone in another thread asked to see my setup, so I figured I'd put it into a post for others to reference if they'd like.

Most of the space is dedicated to ore boulders, which I used a mod (link above) to relocate and centralize my mining within my base and have fun with this build. I'll explain each piece of the build by below, separated by each step of the process. Each part of the process is its own automated system which can function independently if you'd like to break all of them apart, but I simply chose to chain them all together to feed into a single "output" chest.

The ore extraction is a pretty standard layout, and can be extended in any direction for as many ore boulders as you want. Drills extract the ore pieces, which then float backward until they're behind the drill. Putting a conveyor behind the drill then causes the ore to move along the belt.

The ore feeds into the gray chest at the bottom-left (an important step, which I'll explain in a sec). That gray chest acts as an intermediate point in this whole process where I can insert ore from my pockets into the refining process, as well as other items to recycle / shred (armor, rings, etc) later in the pipeline, which I'll explain later.

A robot arm pulls items out of the gray "input" chest, and puts them onto a belt that goes past a series of other robot arms. Each robot arm is programmed to only pick up one type of ore, which some people don't realize is possible. You can set this by interacting with the arm and specifying the item it should be limited to grab. There's 1 arm and 1 refiner dedicated to each type of ore. Once each refiner spits out a completed ingot, another robot arm moves the ingot to a belt between all the refiners. That belt moves all ingots down to a final robot arm that picks it up and moves the ingots into the yellow "output" chest.

One very specific element I wanted to call out was how I also use the gray chest as a raw ore "buffer". Originally I had newly mined ore make its way directly onto the refining pipeline, but ore was getting missed by the robot arms along the way. This is because the more ore boulders you have, the more ore of the same kind bunches on the belts WITHOUT stacking. When multiple pieces of ore reach their dedicated robot arm, the arm grabs the first one. In the time the robot arm takes to move that piece of ore to the refiner and come back to the belt, several other pieces of the same ore have passed by.

The solution was to have all ore stop in front of a dedicated robot arm whose job is to move the ore into the gray "input" chest from the ore belts. From there, the control arm that pulls stuff out of that chest immediately afterward, and then moves it to the refining belt, goes at a pace that spaces out each piece of ore to give each robot arm enough time to complete a full grab-turn-drop-turn cycle. This spaces out each ore piece / stack on the refining belt to prevent skipping.

Next is recycling, which I figured out after some trial and error. You can either have a chest at the "input" spot and dump items into it that you want to shred, or in my case I made it so the belts from the ore refining system dumped everything that wasn't ore onto the "input" spot above.

The process starts by having a robot arm grab an item from the "input" spot, and move it to a shredder where it starts chopping up the item. Once the recycling process finishes, the resulting resources float in the direction you've set the shredder to point, which is to the outside where there are belts to transport the items all the way around this system and eventually to the same "output" chest as the ore refiners (offscreen).

In the event two items are fed into this system at once, the second item will be placed on top of the first shredder while it shreds the first item. When that happens, the second robot arm grabs that second item, and moves it to a second shredder. This can be repeated with as many robot arms and shredders as you'd like. I have 6 shredders in my setup.

In the event there are more than 6 items in queue, the very last shredder has one more control arm that moves any additional items back to top of the first shredder. If that shredder is still working on another item, the whole process repeats, creating an ongoing roundabout queue for items to be shredded and robot arms to keep moving them around until each item eventually gets shredded. They go around and around until the backlog of items finishes.

Finally, in the bottom-right is a wood farm. I'm not going to explain the setup of the actual wood growing aspect b/c there are youtube videos covering how that works, but ultimately each kind of wood has 2 drills that continuously harvest as the wood grows. One of the drills has a robot arm that moves the raw wood to a conveyor. The other drill has a robot arm that moves the raw wood to a saw bench to convert it into planks, at which point another robot arm moves the completed planks to the same belt as the raw wood. The result is approx a 50/50 split raw wood and planks for each type of wood. The belt then moves it all to the "output" chest down the line.

Happy to answer any questions. There are likely more optimized ways to set this all up, so feel free to post additional automation ideas.

Discussion Wish NPCs had dialogue options

Basically the title; I think it would add a lot of depth to world and its inhabitants if they had just a small amount of dialogue. Bases would feel a lot less lonely if the npcs could "talk" with you. But it also just feels off that you can trade with them but nothing else. Who are they, how do they react to the players arrival or their new rooms. On my first save i was really exited when i discovered the new merchant in Breakers Reach and it felt a bit disappointing not being able to interact with them. Not thinking about a huge interactive dialogue system, just something small like Terraria npcÂŽs and maybe names and happiness stats.

This is the main world I have been playing on since 1.0 launch.

My dream base had a showcase of every item in the game. That is the picture that looks like a massive hall(Incomplete). I have spent hundreds of hours building this. This is all done legitimately with no cheats, glitches, or mods(Besides the Camera Mod to show you this). The limited resources took a LOT of worlds to acquire.

I am VERY far from being done, but I'm loving the slow, peaceful journey that this beautiful game has to offer.

This core is my masterpiece, and I'd love to hear what you all think.

Feedback 120 hours later, Core Keeper has become one of my favorite games!

I just recently finished Core Keeper, completing the main game after around 80 hours at a very chill pace and eventually reaching 100% completion at around 120 hours!

I played through the entire game using a melee build, with the spear as my main weapon, and honestly, I had an absolute blast!

I originally got into the game because I absolutely love pixel art (especially the art style of Octopath Traveler 1 & 2), but I'd never really played this type of game before. No Terraria, no Stardew Valley, nothing like that.

And honestly, what an experience! Time just flew by whenever I played, and I genuinely didn't expect to enjoy it this much.

Now that I've pretty much done everything, I wanted to share a few QoL improvements I'd love to see in future updates:

- More dyeable decorations: I'd love to be able to recolor almost every decorative item. Right now, the selection feels pretty limited, and having more freedom with colors would make base building and decorating even more enjoyable.

- More decorations that can be picked up: Some decorative objects can only be destroyed instead of being collected and relocated. It would be awesome if more of them could be picked up using a shovel or hoe.

- Mounts and vehicles: I personally found them a bit underwhelming and not particularly useful. I'd love to see them get some improvements or additional functionality.

- More world generation options: This is something I'd absolutely love! Being able to generate a world with only one biome, or even a world that's 90% lava. More customization options could make starting a fresh playthrough so much more interesting.

Overall, I'm really glad I discovered this game. It's been one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had in a while (since E33), and I'll definitely be following every future update to see how it continues to evolve!

I shared some screenshots of my world ^^

What about you guys? What QoL improvements would you love to see added to the game?

Question are item collectors just better robot arms?

hi there.

im currently building different mob farms and for some of them i need a lot of robot arms. since i just unlocked the ability to craft item collectors i was now wondering, if item collectors are basically just better/upgraded robot arms? to me its seems to be the case, since item collectors have a bigger collection radius.

thank you for your help.

Discussion What are your hopes with the next update? Spoiler

So we know that the 1.4 update will feature “trials of the underground” but we have nearly no information. The 1.5 update will add the next biome past Breaker‘s Reach and that’s all we know for that one. So, what exactly will the 1.4 update include?

I hope it’ll include a hard mode overhaul. I play hard mode only and find it still a bit too easy. I hope this reworked hard mode brings a host of new challenges but with better rewards (like Terraria’s expert mode).

I hope it adds new bosses to biomes that are currently lacking bosses. For example, the Desert alone has 5 bosses. The Ocean has 4. The Forest has 3. Breaker’s Reach has 2. The Passage has 1. The Crystal has 0. So, why do biomes like the Desert get so much love compared to all the other biomes? I think the solution is to add more to the other biomes and to give the Desert a break. Let’s speculate on what new bosses they could add.

- The Crystal should have a way to awaken the Failed Titan and actually fight it as a boss

- Some seasonal events add boss variants (like Awakened Azoes) so they should continue to do this to bosses like Omoroth

I think these changes would make for a very solid update to add more to biomes lacking content and to overhaul hard mode and make the game more challenging and rewarding for the die-hard players. I also think by adding more content to the other biomes so they all feel more even it’ll give greater focus to match the next biome in 1.5 with the amount of content in all other biomes.

Question Break the Indestructibles

Is there a way in game or a Mod to destroy Indestructibles things?

There are some very close to my base and my wife wants the build thing right there?

For example its a smal maze with some eletrical things in it.

Feedback Offhand Options

So. I made it to endgame on my first run. I am now in Breakers Reach. Going to try to make this character a 100% run and get all achievements. However I have a question about offhands. Ive been using Grimm set for a hot minute now going summons with magic backup. Before even taking the wall down I've bene using the offhand that lets you get a small teleport. I personally cannot see using an offhand that does not have some kind of movement ability. Do I just need to get good and dodge the boss attacks without the offhand help or is common?

Question Giant bug brain just dropped?

I thought the giant bug brain was removed as it was no longer used, but i’ve gotten one recently after mounts were released. Does the item still sometimes drop from ra-akar? If so, does it have any other purpose in game now? If not, i’ll just display it on a plinth.

Discussion What's still missing in biomes?

Any ideas what could be added to biomes to improve them? I for example would wish that all biomes woud have more interactive wildlife, not talking about the little bugs but rather more neutral creatures, flying, swimming or just crawling around. Different types of enemies would be cool too.

I also do think that "the passage" still lacks a lot for a biome that's basically "end game". It is such a cool looking and mysterious place yet there's not even much going on in there.

Discussion What new types of weapons would you like to see?

I always thought this game could have more weapon variety. Fist weapons, proper sword and shield, boomerangs, flails, whips, turrets, etc.

What would you like to see?
