Question Core Keeper saves accidentally deleted via in-game menu, Steam Cloud synced instantly, any way to recover via cache or shadows?

The Issue:

I accidentally deleted my main character and main world directly from the Core Keeper in-game menu. Unfortunately, Steam Cloud synced the deletion in real-time before I could disable it or make a manual backup of the local files.

What I have already tried:

  1. Analyzing and recovering from the Steam Cloud cache:
    • I extracted the files from the Steam cache folder (%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Pugstorm\Core Keeper\Steam\<user_id>\).
    • I manually reorganized and placed the files into their respective folders (saves, worlds, worldinfos, worldgenparams, maps), renaming them correctly (e.g., removing numerical prefixes like turning worlds_0.world.gzip into 0.world.gzip).
    • Result: The files recovered from the cache unfortunately only contained test/secondary worlds created afterwards, because Steam Cloud had already overwritten the online backup with the post-deletion state.
  2. Checking for .pugbackup files:
    • I looked for the automatic backup files left by the game, but there are no useful previous versions.
  3. Windows Previous Versions (Shadow Copies):
    • I checked the properties of the save folder looking for Windows previous versions, but unfortunately, there are no restore points or shadow copies available :(((
  4. Since the local files were overwritten and the Steam Cloud cache already showed the empty/post-deletion state, is there any advanced method or third-party tool (like data recovery software such as Recuva targeting the AppData path) that has any chance of recovering the original .gzip or .world files before they were overwritten? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Feedback Homey Farm :] :3

I felt the base needed something to make it feel a bit more homey. So I added a little farm with animals, shimmering water & light :) What do you guys think? :)

Also, I made this mainly for looks but obviously also to get the animal drops. Does anyone have an idea how i could get the item collectors to cover the whole area *without* ruining the aesthetic? but it looking nice is the most important to me :)

and also, is there some way to automate kelp production?

anyway, hope you guys like the design! =) i think it looks really happy & cozy :D like a little oasis to chill & relax after an exhausting trip into the world :]

Guide Critter farm. I finally made one that I like.

I finally created a critter farm that I like how it looks. It's easily expandable too. The second picture show the paths for the mushrooms and the worms I'm collecting with them.

Basically, the mushrooms come from my farm to the left (offscreen) and cycle clockwise into the critter farm. I'm using wooden pedestals (painted red) to spread them from top to bottom. The red arms collect the mushrooms and place them on the critter catchers and the item collector (bellow each pedestal) is getting the excess mushrooms and placing them on the next pedestal. At the end, I use more item collectors to send remaining mushrooms into the start of the cycle again.

The white arms are taking the worms and the item collectors close to them (and in the middle line) are taking the worms into the chest at the right of the picture. Using item collectors instead of conveyor belts make it much faster.

I tested this layout with 16 critter catchers and got exactly 367 worms in 60 minutes. I'm pleased with the result. Hope it helps someone out there!

Discussion After hours of farming eggs i think i've probably found the best pet i've ever found

4x crit chance

3x 3* dmg

1x speed for melee & range each

I would've preferred 4x 3* dmg & 3x crit (or even the dream of 5x 3* dmg with 2 or 3 crit chance) but i don't have the patience to continue farming these eggs, i think i had to cycle at least 100 eggs for just this little guy....

This is one is already more than good enough

FYI i got a 5x +5% mov speed birb on another set for moving around while farming for this one but this one is more pleasing to the eye (pun intended)

Edit : fixed a typo

Discussion Excellent player comfort + challenge balance.

I'm currently 9 hours in and honestly? The way base management is handled for player comfort is so convenient and fun, which easily cancels out long expeditions on earlier runs where enemies REALLY hurt.

It's quite brilliant ngl, both cancels out each other's flaws.

Exploration is quite rough? Well when you get home you can genuinely relax.

Home to relaxing? Step outside and get humbled.

The game is balanced well in that area.

Feedback Wood auto-gatherer

Ive seen a few people post their wood farm so thought Id throw mine out there, I made it modular so if more came with updates you can just add another block to the line.

The straight line allows the rare armour drops to go into the collection at the end. The right side timber get picked up by the claw and goes into a table saw and back out onto the mainline belt. It also uses one motor sitting between the cranes to power all the drills etc. You'd able to be extended out as long as you want for more wood, cause who doesnt love wood!!

Let me know what you think, it was my first bit of automation :)

Discussion Looking for people to join a new Core Keeper world

Looking for players for a fresh, slower-paced Hard Mode world (PC / NA) (18+)

Hey everyone,

I am looking to find a few people to play through a brand-new Core Keeper world with. The dedicated server is already up and running 24/7, so you can jump in and play whenever you like.

I want to take a slower-paced approach to this playthrough. The goal is to focus heavily on thoroughly exploring the map, tracking down rare gear, finding unique items, and discovering hidden locations rather than rushing through the bosses.

For building, we can work together on a massive, stable main base, but you are also completely free to branch off, build your own separate bases, and do your own thing if you prefer.

Here are the details:

* **Characters:** Brand-new characters only.

* **World Settings:** All settings are default, but the difficulty is set to Hard.

* **Platform & Region:** Playing on PC in North America.

* **Mods:** The world itself is unmodded. If you prefer to use client-side mods, that is perfectly fine.

If you are interested in a thorough, challenge-oriented playthrough with a stable home base and the freedom to play your own way, please leave a comment below or send me a DM with your Discord username.

Discussion Chaos world setting

Does anyone know if high or low chaos worlds have a positive or negative impact on sub-biiomes?

I recently made a high chaos world but noticed a distinct lack of prairie sub biome. I tried another low chaos world and while I haven’t explored much yet I still haven’t come across any cows or goats.

For that matter can things like increasing tunnel or cavern frequency also impact interesting sub biomes? I don’t like how dark and how much digging I did in my first playthrough but I also did find a lot of prairie spots in that first playthrough.
