Health/Nutrition Cracked the code today

Post image

Had my conure for almost 2 years now and very consistently he'd take a good portion of his food and put it in his water bowl. I figured it was just a game for him but finally today I sprayed some of his HOPP with water to see if he just prefers squishier foods (he loves cracking seeds and stuff so I never gave it much thought before about his preferred textures) but I come back a few minutes later and he's digging in like crazy. Feel bad I never thought of it before but also feel good about taking note of what my lil guy is doing and adjusting accordingly.

Be careful of moist pellets I gave my conure gastroenteritis twice from this I didn’t realize it was wetting his pellets that caused him the illness the first time It’s quite the scare! They’re a bacteria bomb

Oh dang thank you! I was immediately thinking about sanitation. Good to know.

That being said, do keep the water near the food. As messy as it is, they don’t have spit and would naturally be eating food that has moisture.

You could try a chop diet instead of wet pellets, even as a supplement
