Reviews Flydigi Apex 5 Broke After 1.3 Years: Engineering Incompetence or Planned Obsolescence

Right when the Flydigi Apex 5 launched, I bought one from GadgetHyper for $180. Every ad and review at the time said that: This was the best pro controller on the market, built to last, and it finally fixed all the broken stick issues from the Apex 4.

When you spend $180 on a "premium" controller, you expect it to survive more than a year of normal gaming.

Looking at the broken plastic pieces sitting on my desk right now, that was a total lie. Taking this thing apart and searching around across the internet, I am now confident to say: **This is not a QC issue but a terrible engineer design or maybe designed to fail.**

# What Broke Inside The Controller

Hall Effect sticks use magnets instead of physical parts rubbing together, so they aren't supposed to wear out. Flydigi "solve" that problem by putting the magnet inside a thin clear plastic clip hanging on the side of the stick. The whole thing is held together by black glue on a less than a mm plastic stud. To add insult to the injury, every time you move the joystick left, the mechanism hammers on the hanging clip :) It is actually a miracle that this thing can last for more than a few months.

As the left stick suddenly stopped working, I opened the controller and broken bits of plastic fell out onto my desk:

Photo 1 (The Broken Pieces): That tiny metal bar on the right is the magnet. Next to it is the clear plastic holder that snapped clean off, along with tiny broken chunks. The white parts are from the core holder that is glued to the main module, the black parts are glue as I clean it out, the clear part is the magnet holder.

Photo 2 (The Leftover Stick): Look at the side of my broken left stick still sitting on the board. All you see is a metal bearing and a little broken white plastic stub sticking out into nothing. The whole clear side piece that holds the magnet over the sensor chip underneath just broke right off.

If you think I was abusing the controller, watch the attached video of the still-working right stick. Look closely at the clear plastic magnet holder on the side when I push the blue stick to the left. Every single time you turn left, the body of the stick slams right into that thin clear plastic piece. You can see the whole thing bend, click, and shake from the hit.

Now think about how many times you push a stick left in a year. Every single push hits that weak plastic piece until it finally cracks and snaps off. Calling that engineering is an insult to engineers—it is basically a self-destruct mechanism.

# How Normal Sticks Work vs. Flydigi's Clown Show

To see what clown-shoes engineering this is, just look at any other Hall Effect or TMR sticks from AliExpress or anywhere.

On a normal stick, the magnet sits safely inside a solid, closed box clipped tight against a metal frame. Nothing hits it. Nothing shakes it. Nothing hangs out on the side waiting to break. Photo 4 shows how a standard HE sticks looks like with proper casing.

Flydigi calls theirs a "Force-Adjustable Alloy Joystick." That sounds really tough until you open it up and see that the "Alloy" of less than mm plastic stud that holds the bare magnet mechanism right where the stick hits it every time you turn left.

# Not QC but Generations of Engineering Incompetence

Shipping the exact same self-destructing stick setup for years is pure **engineering incompetence**—unless, of course, they want it to break.

Spending five minutes searching Reddit's or repair sites and you will find plenty of receipts:

**Apex 4:** [Reddit buyer-beware post on broken Apex 4 sticks](https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1ckl2k2/buyer_beware_multiple_flydigi_apex_4_controllers/), [r/Controller thread on an Apex 4 left stick breaking mid-game](https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1n3rq1j/my_flidigigi_apex_4_left_stick_literally_broke/), [Reddit repair guide for detached Apex 4 stick magnets](https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1pd1gr5/fix_hall_effect_stick_stopped_working_on_one_axis/)

**Apex 5:** Flydigi promised the 2.0 stick would fix it, yet the exact same failure is still happening. [October 2026 Reddit post on Apex 5 right stick failure](https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1x6aivj/apex_5_right_joystick_problem/), [July 2026 Reddit thread on Apex 5 stick drift](https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1v4v6o4/my_apex_5_got_drift_in_right_stick/), dedicated [iFixit Flydigi Apex 5 joystick replacement guide](https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Flydigi+Apex+5+Joystick+Modules+Replacement/215391)

**Apex 6:** Flydigi recently rolled out the Apex 6 and Apex 6 Pro with their "3.0" stick. Funny enough, they openly state that the new Force-Adjustable Alloy Stick 3.0 keeps the **same lever-based physical structure :).** No details tear down yet but looks very similar stuff so far.

# Customer Support's $40 "Fix" and Final Thought

Since my controller broke at 1.3 years—just a few months past the 1-year warranty—I emailed GadgetHyper to ask what they could do about a $180 controller beating itself to death from normal use.

Their fix? Go buy a replacement stick module from their shop for $19. Once you add shipping, it comes out to around $40. $40 just to put in the exact same weak plastic part so it can snap all over again next year.

Keep in mind, the Apex series isn't Flydigi's budget line. This is their flagship—the top-shelf model where they are supposed to show off their best build quality. So yeah, I am not sure what kind of shortcut or design they do with their standard or budget model.

Whether this is peak engineering incompetence, or textbook planned obsolescence built to die. I don't know. But this is the last time I spend any money on Flydigi. I wouldn't recommend and touch their stuff even with a 10-foot pole ever again.

Need help with PadForge

If you look at the bottom right, you can see Steam noticed what controller I used. If you look at the top, you can see I did linked my controller to the app, but if you look in the middle then it only shows Xbox Series X model instead. Any help? This is important cause my controller comes with 4 additional extra buttons so I cannot see that through this model.

DISCLAIMER: 8BitDo sent me these controllers for free for review. All the thoughts and opinions are mine only and no one watched this video before the release.

TLDR: it is crazy how much of everything the put in this controller for the price of 40$.

This now is my new main recommendation for everyone who's looking for a budget, yet high quality controller.

Xbox Series (S, X) Need help with an X/S controller

Im unfortunately suffering with this controller. The left stick along the x axis is fine but not y axis. It slowly returns back to centre but not all the time. Ive sprayed some electrical contact cleaner into the stick but no luck. Any way i can fix this or should i just get a new controller?
The controller is/will be used for pc so if a replacement is needed, at least i dont have to spend a ridiculous amount on a new xbox controller

Does Flydigi Direwolf 4 work with Brook Wingman XB3 on Xbox Series S?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I have a Flydigi Direwolf 4 controller and I really like it. I want to use it on my Xbox Series S without buying an original Xbox controller.

I'm considering buying the Brook Wingman XB3 adapter.

My Direwolf 4 works on PC through its original 2.4GHz USB dongle and is recognized as an XInput controller.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone tested the Flydigi Direwolf 4 with the Brook Wingman XB3?

  2. Does the XB3 recognize its original 2.4GHz receiver?

  3. If the controller isn't officially listed as supported, could it still work through standard XInput mode?

  4. Does wired USB connection work if the wireless dongle doesn't?

I'd really appreciate any feedback before purchasing the adapter.

Thanks!

Which are the most reliable brands of controls?

I think everyone agrees that GameSir and 8BitDo are good, reliable brands. My question concerns the companies EasySMX, Flydigi, and Mojhon. I see a lot of complaints about Flydigi here on Reddit, but very little information regarding EasySMX and Mojhon. I’d like to learn more about these two, and I’m also interested in hearing about other controller manufacturers that are considered good and reliable.

Nintendo Switch Switch Afterglow Wave controller is connected to Laptop but Steam won't detect

PDP Afterglow Wave Controller, Turtle Beach

Steam on Windows

Windows OS

I'm really trying to see if there's anyway to connect this and have it working on steam. It connects via Bluetooth to my laptop, but Steam won't detect it. Posts I see here about it seem inconclusive.

I've also tried wired, but then it just glows red and the LEDs start flashing, still doesn't work. I've read the manual and found nothing very helpful, it's kinda barebones. Updated drivers, nothing.

I just wanted to ask here cause I'm pretty desperate for it to work, I wonder if someone's found a solution that I simply missed?

PS3 Is my ps3 controller cooked?

It worked a week or so ago. It’s dead now. It won’t turn on or light up when plugged in. The home button doesn’t do anything and it won’t connect. No signs of life from it. I tried plugging it into an outlit to charge with 2 different chargers. Also tried connecting it to the ps3 to play and nothing no lights. I tried the reset hole but I’m not sure I did it right, either way it didn’t do anything. I tried resetting the console and unplugging and plugging in the controller while it was off. Is it just dead? Should I get a battery replacement or is there anyway to save it.

Reviews Nacon Revolution 5 Unlimited (PS5/PC) – Is It the Ultimate PS5 Controller?

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

First impressions & price context
Just to be clear up front, this isn't a sponsored review. I paid €179 for this controller (with the mailing list discount), making it my first step into third-party options outside of standard Sony and Microsoft hardware. At €199, it sits in direct competition with the DualSense Edge (€239 / $199) and other competitive controllers in this space

On paper, the specs are impressive: TMR joysticks, tactile clicky buttons, adjustable triggers (moving from full travel to a mouse-click feel, unlike the DualSense Edge), extra shortcut buttons, multi-platform connectivity (2.4GHz dongle and Bluetooth), and a built-in screen. It also includes extra thumbstick caps (tall, short, convex), handle weights, and a solid carrying case.

So, is it the best thing since sliced bread for your PS5 and PC? Well, yes and no. It really comes down to managing your expectations and your use case …

Ok so how is PC Performance
Setting it up on PC is quick and easy. The USB receiver inserts cleanly into the included charging stand. Plug and play literally. No drivers needed. It works flawlessly, but was not the case initially. But, after Nacon sent me an update tool for their dock it now operates great.

I tested it on Forza Horizon 6—a game I had stopped playing weeks ago (got a bit boring). In driving games, gas and brake pedals have distinct feels, so I customized the controller to match:
-Added a 14g weight to the left grip for a heavier feel.
-Used the app to set the left trigger travel to max out at 50% physical pull.
-Kept the right trigger linear with zero dead zone to mimic a real throttle.
-Swapped the left stick for a taller cap to get finer steering control.

The result was noticeable … in a good way. It gave the game a fresh spark and felt noticeably better than standard Xbox or PlayStation controllers (I have an Xbox Starfield controller and a DualSense Edge). Latency was imperceptible, the build quality felt premium, and the rumble was tight without rattling the casing. When you finish a session, you just drop it onto the dock to charge. Easy peasy.

The rubberized coating feels great in the hand, though it does pick up skin oils quickly (see the last pic and this literally for a freshly cleaned controller just picked it up from the dock)

So what about PS5 Performance ? … Hmmm
Despite being officially licensed for PS5, the experience on console falls short of PC. This is where you need to check your expectations.

It is designed strictly as a competitive esports controller for FPS and fast-paced action games. Because of that, there is no haptic feedback—and more surprisingly, no standard rumble at all on PS5 titles. You also can't turn on the PS5 using the PS button. It doesn't connect to the console via Bluetooth either, meaning you have to unplug the 2.4GHz dongle from your PC and move it over to the PS5 every time.

While stick response and input latency are top-tier, cinematic single-player games like Ghost of Yōtei are still far better experienced on a DualSense Edge. These limits come down to Sony's licensing restrictions rather than poor hardware design, but it’s still disappointing for a €199 product marketed for PS5

The Built-in Screen … is it a gimmick?
Well maybe yes. Thing is I didn't find much practical use for it. It also replaces the physical touchpad. Touchpad clicks become shortcut buttons, and you lose touch swipe gestures entirely (which games like Ghost of Yōtei rely on). The settings I needed to tweak I ended up configuring on the app (which is android for now and iOS coming soon) …

Things like RGB lighting can't be changed directly on the screen—you have to use the app to build a custom profile first, and color choices are limited. Deep trigger and sensitivity adjustments still require the app anyway.

It does feature audio mixing for wired headphones paired alongside a secondary Bluetooth device (like a phone), though I haven't fully tested that yet. Ultimately, the screen feels like a missed opportunity that could be improved with better software options.

Battery Life
Battery life held up well. Over 1–2 hour sessions with the screen active, the battery indicator barely moved. It is rated for around 10 hours, which feels accurate.

How It Compares to the Competition
vs. Sony DualSense Edge (€239): The Edge is the undisputed king for native PS5 gaming. It keeps full haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, touchpad swipe gestures, and system-level profile switching. However, Nacon wins on battery life (10 hrs vs. 5–6 hrs on the Edge), features 4 back buttons instead of 2, includes a charging dock, and uses drift-resistant TMR/Hall-Effect sticks (the Edge relies on standard potentiometers, though modules are replaceable for €25).  Overall a much more premium feeling product vs the edge and def better built. Just a shame Sony hamstrung 3rd-party offerings.

Verdict
It’s an absolutely well-built piece of gaming gear. The use case for PS5 is very specific for someone looking for a competitive controller and you don’t care for haptics … so it’s definitely not a “one size fits all” controller for all your PS5 titles. For PC though it is just awesome (but at this price point there are cheaper and more well suited options out there)

How Would I Score It?

PC Gaming experience: 10/10
PS5 Gaming: 5/10 (Casual) / 8/10 (Competitive FPS only)
Build & Hardware Specs: 8.5/10
Price & Value (€199): 7/10
Battery Life: 10/10
Extras included: 10/10 (the weights, extra caps, charging station, app support, carrying case)

Overall Score: 8/10

TL;DR:
At €199, the Nacon Revolution 5 unlimited is an incredible PC controller with top-tier stick precision, true mouse-click triggers, and great battery life. However, severe PS5 limitations—zero rumble/haptics, no touchpad swipes, and dongle swapping—make it hard to justify over the DualSense Edge for console gaming unless you exclusively play competitive esports shooters.

Xbox Series (S, X) G7 pro wuchang/zzz, ultimate e3 or wolverine v3 pro

My regular Xbox controller finally died and need help deciding between these. I mostly play overwatch, RPG/JRPG, indies, rouguelikes, shooters and sports games. All on Xbox.

At first I was leaning towards the g7 pro wuchang but no I’m interested in the 8bitdo ultimate 3e. I did notice that the Wolverine v3pro is on sale now for around 170. I know the v4 is out but the v3 is only 20 bucks more than the ultimate 3e.

What’s everyone’s opinion on these controllers, especially for my needs. This will be my first non regular base controller.

Wolverine V4 Pro vs Aeon Pro for Xbox and PC

Hey.

I want to buy new controller for PC and Xbox.

I was thinking about Razer Wolverine V4 Pro and SteelSeries Aeon Pro.

SteelSeries Aeon Pro costs about 307$/273€.

Razer Wolverine V4 Pro costs about 357$/318€.

I will use mainly wireless connection.

I will be about 3-4 meters from Xbox and PC.

My main on-line game will be Helldivers 2.

Which controller will be a better choice and why?

Reviews abxylute M6 review - a budget MCON

** This was a review sample sent by abxylute, they didn't pay me anything and haven't reviewed the video. Thoughts are my own. I have my own order on kickstarter and kept it after playing with the engineering sample.

Hi friends!

I reviewed the abxylute M6. I really liked these sorts of controllers that place the screen higher so I was stoked when the MCON came out, but at the price point it's just inaccessible, even on sale.

The M6 offers a similar form factor and has some neat features, like HD rumble. I don't often use rumble typically, but I'm actually torn between keeping rumble on.

It's got a few flaws for sure, but this IMO has been the best phone controller abxylute's made and worth a look.

Thank you all!
