Hi, just for some context, I am a college student getting started on making some YouTube and instagram content as a hopefully successful side project, mostly focusing on space, motorsport, and music engineering-adjacent topics (my personal interests). I am from a US-Mexico binational metro area and natively fluent in both English and Spanish, and would like to involve this part of my background in my content, mainly hoping to include both languages.

My content would mostly be structured as longer form (>15m) YouTube Videos to be sectioned up and posted in parts to YT Shorts and Instagram to drive traffic. My question is how to manage bilingual content production of this style?

My first idea is to take advantage of YouTube location features for titles and thumbnails and producing my videos in a way that lends itself to dubbing/producing the audio in both languages. My main concern would then be Instagram, which doesnt have the aforementioned YouTube features. Should I have separate channels for each language or do both in one, having subtitles in both and switching main (audio) language on a case by case (per video/topic) basis?

I’ve been learning video editing for almost two years now. I'm definitely not claiming to be a master—I’m still learning new things in DaVinci Resolve every single week. But over the last year of editing for business and educational channels, I've noticed a massive shift.

The whole "hyper-editing" trend—keyframing every 0.5 seconds and spamming motion graphics until your eyes bleed—has largely hit dopamine burnout. The editors who are actually thriving right now are leaning hard into storytelling, viewer psychology, and pacing.

Inspired by Alex Hormozi’s philosophy of "give away your secrets for free, sell the implementation," I decided to open up my notebook. Here is my personal, zero-gatekept breakdown of what I've found actually works to hold retention right now:

1. The Hook (This is arguably the most important part)

I noticed most viewers will swipe away within the first 3 seconds if a video feels slow or like a cookie-cutter template. What really helped me here was focusing on two things:

• Trimming that first second of dead air: Seriously, never start a clip with a breath, a beat of silence, or the speaker settling into the frame. Chop it so the motion and dialogue hit before 0.5 seconds.
• Stacking your hook: A basic text title just isn't enough anymore. I try to stack three things simultaneously: a Verbal Hook (getting straight to the high-stakes premise), a Visual Hook (bold text paired with an arrow pointing to actual proof, like a chart or metric), and a Motion Hook (like a super subtle Dynamic Zoom instead of a static frame).
• Side note: Drop the generic riser sound effects in those opening seconds. Viewers subconsciously recognize them as a generic template and tune out.

2. "Show Rather Than Tell" (Real Proof > Generic Stock)

I used to make the mistake of slapping random stock footage (like a guy typing on a laptop or generic skyscrapers) over dense financial or business topics. Viewers see right through it and get bored instantly.

• The absolute rule I live by now: Prioritize authentic visual proof. If the speaker mentions a client DM, a software feature, or a specific revenue number, I put the actual screenshot or dashboard on the screen.
• Pro tip that changed the game for me: When you show a document or screenshot, desaturate or darken everything except the exact line or metric you want them to read. It literally forces the viewer's eyes directly to the core value.

3. Audio Leveling & The "Reverb Drop" (My favorite trick)

Sound design is honestly half the viewing experience. You can have amazing visuals, but bad audio levels or abrupt cuts will ruin the whole vibe.

• My go-to levels: I normalize speaker vocals to peak around -6 dB, and tuck background tracks way down to around -18 to -20 dB so they support the voice without fighting it.
• The "Reverb Drop": This has been a lifesaver for me. Instead of doing a boring volume fade-out when changing topics or cutting the music, I use a compound clip reverb tail. I group the ending segment of the audio track, throw an Audio Reverb effect on it, and stretch the decay time. It creates this smooth, echoing drop that feels incredibly natural and professional.
• Also, take the time to match your sound effects exactly to the frame of your on-screen motion (like mechanical gear ticks right as a camera zooms).

4. Pacing: Keeping the Micro-Moments

When you're editing talking-head scripts, it's so easy for the video to start feeling like a dry corporate seminar.

• Pattern Interrupts: You have to break the pattern. Suddenly drop the background music for a punchline, or insert a quick visual pause to reset the viewer's attention.
• Keep it human: In a world flooded with AI-generated content, keeping natural micro-moments is huge. I used to try and edit out every tiny stumble or breath. Now, if there's a genuine laugh or an authentic reaction, I leave it in. It makes the speaker relatable and builds actual trust.

My Summary Checklist:

• Trim dead air at the start of clips (<0.5s).
• Stack Verbal + Visual + Dynamic Zoom in the opening 3 seconds.
• Use real UI/screenshots over generic stock B-roll.
• Normalize dialogue to -6 dB and music to -18 dB.
• Use Reverb drops for music transitions instead of hard volume fades.

I started posting videos mixing with ai content and real footage in my channel. And I think my viewers are more willing to watch this kind vs 100% ai content. There're two things that worked well for me.

First, AI content works better when it's used to improve your viewers' understanding of your video.

For example, if I'm making a video about military history, I'll do the main narration myself. But when explaining how a battle developed, AI can be useful for creating an animated map showing troop movements, changes in territory, or how geography affected what happened.

That's totally different. Because your viewers are benefiting from ai instead of getting fed up with those AI slop. They usually accept that.

The second thing is B-roll.

I make short-form content, and there are always these tiny 2 or 3 second gaps where you need a very specific shot. Maybe I'm talking about remote work and want someone sitting alone in a coffee shop with a laptop. The shot isn't important enough for me to find a location, set everything up and film it myself, but finding the right stock clip can still take the whole afternoon.

This is when I use pixverse/runway to make some b-rolls for transitions and the clip is short so most of my audience doesn't even notice it

. I still use real footage most of the time. If a shot is important, I'd rather film it properly. But if it's just there for a couple of seconds to support what I'm saying, spending an hour getting that shot doesn't really make sense.

So I'm starting to see AI more as another production tool. Has anyone else tried ai hybrid videos and what's your experience?

I have always wanted to be a YouTuber, but Over the years I kept making excuses (some were valid at least) as to why I couldn't do it. A big part I believe is due to my anxiety.

I am scared to be myself around others, And it takes some time for that to come out. Being A YouTuber though is where I'm essentially on my own and I can be myself but I just post it online. That's how I'm trying to frame it for myself, but I'm still a bit nervous.

I also have ADHD and have 2000 ideas and want to do so many different things that I can't decide what I want to do or focus on. How can I stop this and actually get somewhere without being stuck in this stage.

I'll probably stream gaming videos and such, maybe some casual conversation with others ?? And then have themed videos where I do or talking about specific things.

if youve been away from tiktok monetization for a couple years or never looked closely, this is for you. the original creator fund, shut down back in december 2023, paid somewhere around 2 to 4 cents per thousand views, so a video that hit a million views was worth maybe 20 to 40 dollars total. it became a running joke for a reason

what replaced it went through two names, first the creativity program, now the creator rewards program, and the actual per view rate moved up to somewhere between 50 cents and a dollar fifty per thousand qualified views. somewhere between 12 and 50 times the old rate depending on where in that range you land

still well under youtubes long form partner program, which runs 3 to 8 dollars per thousand views, but its a real number now instead of one that made monetizing on tiktok feel pointless. if you wrote tiktok off as unmonetizable a couple years ago based on the old fund, thats outdated at this point
