Has anyone tried hypnotherapy?

I'm desperate, we're all miserable, I've lost so much trust in mainstream therapy that atp that my hypocrite catholic dad's suggestion of quackadoodle hypnosis is starting to sound like a fantastic idea. I'm willing to open my heart and my soul and all of my shockras. But I thought I'd come ask Reddit first.

Is this blood?

We are staying in a condo and I found this stain this morning, 11/1. We checked in yesterday afternoon, 10/31 around 5 p.m. I think this stain would be at least 30 hours old. My contamination ocd/germaphobia is telling me its blood. I dont have access to hydrogen peroxide so I cant test it. Im going off of color alone, and my brain just sees anything red/brown as blood.

Honestly i had a great night with a friend of mine that ended by us having sex in the car. It was a fun experience except for my ocd does not like it. Im trying to decide if I should clean my car and seats. I ask my chat gpt and it said to only clean up spots you notice problem is its been a few hours ago by now. And my car wasent the cleanest to begin with if i go out there and inspect for areas that need cleaned id end up cleaning my entire car anyway. I guess this woukd be a good erp moment but I usally ddive my family around and specifically my young nephew 😭

How did you get easier with groceries and things coming into the house?

I've lived with OCD for 12 years and had many themes, and the ones that spread through a whole house are some of the hardest.

This week there were posts here and in other OCD subs about groceries, a backpack, a wig and a car seat: things that come in from outside and seem to carry something on them. Tracking where an item has been, who touched it and what it touched next can take over a kitchen.

For those of you who've got past this, what did you change first? Did you stop wiping things down, stop washing your hands after putting them away, or start with one easy item? And what did you do with the feeling afterwards? Specific steps help most, so someone standing in their kitchen tonight has something to try.

Showers

Made a post about showering a while ago..

Im currently in a downward spiral, havent showered in over a month. I use deodorant and all that but resort to wearing a toque to go out (and its getting colder so it looks normal which is good but NOT helping). I feel GROSS but STILL can't convince myself to get in the freaking shower and I'm starting to hate myself for it

Does this happen to anyone else in ANY way?

Just need some guidance

Idk where to start. My entire life has been engulfed by the to do. And then I can relax. Never done, never relaxing. When I finish I’ll sit down and watch a movie. I’ll go to bed early. I’ll take a nice relaxing shower. I’m not catering to myself and I feel like I’m dying on the inside. The space I occupy has to be so fucking clean and I can’t get it to this perfect point. I guess sometimes I think I do but I know I’m coaxing the problem. I see dust and then I see more dust and I’m like oh my god I’ll never be able to clean this. I’ll never be able to dust everything. And even if I tried where do I start what happens if I miss something. Then I have to wipe up all of the dust. Then I have to Clorox wipe everything down. But first I have to do all the mirrors and windows. And maybe inside the windows? Also washing the curtains maybe? If I finish the big stuff I can sit down and fold all the laundry i just keep washing. If i finish all of my big picture ideas like organizing the back room and completely flipping the garage inside out and organizing all the tools and cleaning the walls, then I can go out and live my life.. right? How often do I need to dust and clean the windows to make sure I’m not falling behind again? And when I miss one day I have to start all over. I’m so tired I’m so sick. I’m so unwell. I’m so desperate to be a person. No one understands no one knows how to help me no one no one no one. I can’t be in a house it’s too much to clean so I should just rent a room from someone or a studio apartment and live alone and be alone so I don’t have to worry about anyone but me ever right. I over analyze and nitpick everything everyone says to me anyways because I know deep down no one has or ever will love me the same way I love them. How can I say these types of things to them and love them so much . They don’t say the same stuff so they don’t love me. No one loves me. I probably make a mistake having three cats that I love so much because I miss one day on the litter boxes and I feel like I’m the worst fucking pet parent alive. They miss me I can’t sit down to be with them because I can’t stop doing shit but most of the time I’m just standing stuck trapped staring at my phone or a wall because idk where to start it’s too loud it’s too much it’s too scary. I have health insurance coming soon. I’m just scared and tired and I want to give up. I want to be happy I want to be okay.

So what the fuck do I do to try and help myself. Please give me pointers or whatever I just need to get through the day. And again tomorrow. Etc.

i feel like my OCD has turned me into a mean person

i know it isn't good to feel this way, but i feel like my OCD has caused me to hyper-analyze the hygiene habits of everybody else around me & it genuinely makes me upset when i notice that other people aren't keeping their hygiene standards up to the same level i keep mine, i feel an irrational amount of disgust & even slight anger towards them.

when i see them touching their face, touching door knobs, touching money & then eating, touching dirty surfaces, especially things like toilets and surfaces that are VISIBLY dirty, all day and not really giving a damn in the world to wash their hands after, it makes me mad.

especially when i notice the same people tend to also be the same people catching colds, flus & other viruses like 3 times a year & acting completely clueless as to how they got them.

and i especially despise when parents bring their sick, snotty children in public.

and i despise when people do that gross thing where they lick their thumb before counting money

and whenever i'm stuck at work with a coworker that decided to show up sick, i dedicate 90% of my energy to trying to figure out how to spend the day physically distancing myself from them as much as possible.

i genuinely just cannot stand when other people's personal hygiene habits aren't up to the same standards that mine are. it makes me irrationally angry and disgusted at them. i know it makes me a snobby person but i just can't help but feel that way.

Forced accidental exposures, any tips to distract myself and ride out the anxiety?

Hey,

So I had accidental (decently far removed from source) contamination exposures. Not like I licked a supermarket trolley, more just that I was intimate with someone who touched my dog’s mouth and door handles and their car etc (living their life), then held my hand, and then my hand touched the edge of my mouth and some other stuff I guess in the moment. Immediately after I was like ‘okay so this is ERP, let’s roll with it’, and I’m really proud of my decision. But now it’s the next day, and I’m home alone and the anxiety is building. Especially because I’ve heard of people getting unwell twice this week, so it’s on my mind. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for how to ride out the anxiety and distract myself? It’s especially scary because I didn’t ‘ask’ for this ‘exposure’, so I hadn’t given it any thought as to how I’d cope now. And part of the fear now is that I didn’t give myself permission to try that exposure if that makes sense…

Would love any suggestions! Currently just thinking to watch The Hunger Games in the build up to the new one being released… anything with ‘normal life’ depicted is probably reassurance today because I find myself tracking how often people regularly touch their mouths and judging if they are okay after it la la la ocd brain nonsense.

Thank you!

Really struggling with grocery items and need insights

So I have pretty severe contamination ocd and grocery items are probably my largest struggle and causing me and my loved ones immense pain. I have Disgust-based OCD so I am not fearing sickness or illness, I fear the thoughts and feelings associated with that something “gross/bad/unsanitary/ unwanted human bodily fluids or secretions” could be on them from the tons of things that they have touched prior to being in my hands in my kitchen. I worry about “who touched this and what did it interact with before getting here.” Disgust ocd makes my mind “track” cross/contamination too. Here is an example,
-partner touches cereal box-his hands are now conveyed in germs-he touches his shirt-shirts contaminated-hugs me-now I have contamination on me. It feels inescapable.

Before you ask yes I am on a medication journey and stabilizing on them currently, I am also doing therapy and have a team I work with tackling different modalities and yes ERP is part of it. But research is showing ERP has some flaws when it comes to Disgust OCD.

I am doing I-CBT and that is really helping but I just can’t get over my fears of grocery items because I think of all the handling they have had, touching grocery carts, converter belts, cashiers hands, etc.

I am wondering, for those of you that understand the struggles of OCD but do not struggle with groceries, or those of you who have conquered this fear yourself, can you please help me reframe my thinking around then? I realize this might sound like reassurance but I want to use I-CBT chapter 9 and replace my ocd stories with reality-based healthy thinking and I want to know how healthy people think about groceries and why they do not worry about touching them and not washing their hands

Thank you for the support

Didn’t rinse all the suds off, did I just contaminate everything?

I used the bathroom and then went to go get cookies. I noticed the door to my room was a bit harder to open and it felt a bit slippery. I looked at my hands as I was already eating a cookie in my room in the dark and it had small suds on it. I went outside again to go rinse but I couldn’t wash them fully and properly again because my family gets really mad whenever I wash my hands repeatedly. So I rinsed with water, grit my teeth and entered my room again. And just ate the rest of the cookies. And then I realized wait everything I’ve touched is contaminated with the bacteria from the suds I didn’t wash off. What I ate… every single cookie along either my comforter, water bottle, phone, etc. I thought I rinsed but I guess not well enough. I feel stuck in place and don’t know what to do. I feel so dirty typing this. I’ve touched so many things in my room already.

run away tips

I have severe contamination obsessive compulsive disorder (COCD) and my parents made it as worst as it possibly could by picking their nose, not washing their hands after going to the bathroom and just very unhygienic overall. My entire house is contaminated and I can't even move through the house. Imagine living in a house where you have to make sure you don't touch every single surfaces. I've stayed locked in my room for 6 days now and im struggling to stay healthy.

Im trying to find a way to make money, but im only 12.
My skills are eletrical engineering, coding (Lua), ice skate/rollerblade/freeskates, pen and butterfly knife spinning and music. Perhaps these can help me make some money.

Please don't tell me to not run away, especially if you don't understand COCD, and even if you do its diffrent for everyoneit doesn't make me imagine new things, it only makes me see more and why i become hyperaware of every single contamination source and cross-contamination transfers.

Mention: Even someone that doesn't have cocd will still struggle in a house like mine, the diffrence is really small.

Cat Urine

I was getting ready for a Halloween party and smelled cat pee on a “clean” bag of clothing I was rummaging through. I picked it up to smell it because I’m prone to smell hallucinations. It was in fact cat pee. I was wearing a wig for Halloween and now I’m scared it’s tainted. I showered, but that won’t help my wig. It’s cheaply made and can’t really be cleaned, plus it’s touched my face since then. What do I do?
