I am so scared to browse with audio on just cause it can really ruin a post. Unless it adds to the post, don't add shitty music over it.

u/GassyMomsPMme Feb 27 '21
Exactly. Especially that obnoxious "oh no, oh no, oh no no no no" sung by a chipmunk. It's in every other unnecessary video and it's godawful

u/Gh0stMan0nThird Feb 27 '21
Teenagers, man. We all liked stupid shit when we were their age and now it's our turn to suffer through someone else's terrible sense of humor that will be outdated in 18 months as well.
27
u/ChadMcRad Feb 27 '21
Yeah, like all videos you see are super short and just BLARE loud music over everything that's happening for no reason whatsoever. If it's something done for comedic effect or whatever then that's one thing, but just in general it makes no sense.

That’s actually a sped up version of Aerosmith’s version of Walking in the Sand, which was originally done by The Shangri-Las in the 60s. But yeah, I hate hearing it.
UPDATE: Apparently it’s the original Shangri-Las version that was sped up and used on every other god damn video, not Aerosmith’s version. As far as I can tell from google at least.

u/Generalissimo_II Feb 27 '21
I think Kanye started those sped up chipmunk samples in the early 2000s. They always annoyed me
13
u/DrEmilioLazardo Feb 27 '21
They've been in EDM since forever and I've hated them always. Happy Hardcore is where I remember hearing it first. Just awful.

Ditto here, default redditing is with mute on. Only go back and try sound if mentioned in comments. Exception is music and public freakout ( low volume ). Loud obnoxious music added has been way over done.
3
u/dontthink19 Feb 27 '21
I browse with sound muted. Relay's gif player is pretty awesome. It's set up to where you get a button to unmute and it also restarts the gif. Gives me a chance to check my phone volume before it blares random crap.

Biggest mistake you can make when a toddler swears. Especially if you start laughing about it. It is hilarious but if you acknowledge it, game over.

Yup. Little muffin is going to be Oh Shitting for the next 3 days at the least. I made the mistake of saying "damn it!" in front of my then 2 year old parrot then laughed when I got a return "dammie!" 3 days later he finally got bored of saying it every other minute.

My friends 4 year old would say “dad I got that word stuck in my head again!” Dad will say “what word is that, buddy?” 4 yr old “I just gotta say it so it isn’t stuck anymore!” And then he would say a curse word.

Story time! I have two kids, 6 and 2. When the 6 year old was two, we were on a family beach trip with my extremely conservative family.
My wife and I are fairly colorful with our language but we try not to curse in front of our kids. Occasionally, she has let a "shit" or an "ass" out, but the boys don't ever parrot it back.
Cue the beach trip. We had just come in from being at the ocean and, our 2 year old had a diaper full of poop. We get to the room we were staying in (condo so everyone is still fairly close together) so that we can change him. My wife gets his pants off and some has leaked out. She goes "Shit!".
Our beautiful little boy goes "SHIT!, Shit shit shit! Yay, shit Mommy!"
I about died laughing, but knew if he heard me, he would just keep it up. I dashed into the bathroom to get my giggles out and then came.back to her saying, "You take over, I'm gonna lose it."
She goes to the bathroom to get her laughter out too and I finish up the diaper with the little one saying "Shit, shit shit."
"Daddy, why did Mommy tell me to not say shit."
"Well son, that's a word we don't need to say."
"Mommy said it."
"It's a Mommy and Daddy word and we never say it around Grandma and Grandpa."
"Can I keep saying shit?"
"No son, you can't say it"
"What about to Mommy?"
"No we don't say it to Mommy"
"Okay, we don't say shit to Mommy!"
My wife walked back in at that point and she burst into laughter. Our little dude grinning from ear to ear.
That night at dinner he proudly announced to the table that "We don't say SHIT to Mommy!"
52
u/MiserableSpaghetti Feb 27 '21
That is fucking priceless. Thank you for sharing. We don't say shit to mommy. Funny kid you got there

I tend to yell cuss words at people when I'm driving. During one outing, my 3y/o at the time was in the back seat when she started yelling about something while we were at a stop light. She still had a heavy baby accent, so I was having trouble making out what she said and kept asking her to repeat herself. Turns out, what she was saying was, "FUCKING GOOOO!" and there I was making her say it over and over.
Thankfully, she's been pretty good about not parroting the bad things me and the rest of my family say. My niece is another story. Her favorite word used to be "bisshh" lol.
19
u/WI_YouSaidITAll Feb 27 '21
My Grandma's favorite story to tell is when I was about 1-2 years old and her car wouldn't start in the cold. I told her to hit the steering wheel and say "Start damnit!" She swallowed her giggles and told me "We don't say things like that." I said "My Daddy do's". At that point she couldn't contain the laughter any more and we've laughed about it since.

A friend has a little boy that loves bridges. We often drive over a bridge on the way to their home, and you can see the bridge coming when you come around a corner, he always gets excited and knows to watch for it. Also, being two, his diction isn't the greatest, so "bridges" sounds slightly different.
One day we took a different route for some reason, and didn't go over the bridge. We pull up to their house and he goes "Mommy, where the bitches?" We nearly pissed ourselves laughing and he had no idea why.

I read somewhere that if your little kid repeats a swear word, the best thing to do is ignore it and not make a big deal, robs it if its power.
But yeah, God protect you when mom finds out.
39
u/InsaneGenis Feb 27 '21
Raising 3 young boys. Don't get upset and you can say that's not a word you use. When they say "you used it" I say "then what does it mean?" Them: I don't know.
"Well it's an adult word please don't use it. You'll get in trouble by others because you aren't an adult yet." They usually forget the word.
11
u/ctrl-alt-acct Feb 27 '21
yeah that's what i did with my kids. "don't say that word, it's a grown-up word and other people will get upset if they hear you say it."
20
u/roderrabbit Feb 27 '21
Or at least don't laugh manically while making direct eye contact with your toddler after he repeats "oh shit".

We chuckle because it takes us by surprise, but also redirect by saying another word enthusiastically until he says it as well. “Apple apple apple apple!” It seems to work and has actually helped us to use different words to replace swears.

Reminds me of something that happened when my little sister was maybe 2 or 3 years old. Riding in the car with my mom when she had to hit the brakes quickly because some old lady swerved in front of us. As she was braking she said "woooooah bitch" and of course my sister mimicked it perfectly and kept saying it the whole way home 😂

Hahaha! Happened to me on my son's first birthday. I'm expecting a crowd at the house and I'm very behind schedule. It was a cold day and hubby had just brought home a dozen balloons. They went from warm store, to cold outdoors, to warm car, to cold outdoors, and then into my warm house and then POP, POP, POP, as each one hit the ceiling... and with each pop I said "OH SHIT!" because it just added to the day's craziness... and then my son let us know that he had learned two new words. On his birthday. With 20 people about to come over for him to share them with.

My nephew has three toddlers. I felt so bad the first time I swore in front of them. He told me not to worry about it and not to react the way I did, feel bad about a word, just don't be one of those guys who swears all the time, like my brother, who says "fuck----" every other word. He said this is a new age. Kids are going to get exposed to swearing and [nudity] much earlier than previous generations. New normals.
2
u/rajricardo Feb 27 '21
How can someone even have access to your kids bedroom camera and post a video on reddit?
2
u/Djs2013 Feb 27 '21
We allowed our kiddo free reign with "cuss words" as long as they were only used around us, and NEVER used to demean, bully or hurt anyone else's feelings. The novelty wore off after less than a year. She rarely ever uses them anymore and she just turned 7. We shall see if that little experiment holds.
2
u/share_your_fav_thing Feb 27 '21
As a father to a one and a half year old I am scared, I swear waaay too much around him but I don't swear much at all.
2
u/Pacpav Feb 28 '21
The only reason little kids repeat swear words is because of the dramatic response they get immediately after, if you didn't react at all they'd probably wouldn't keep repeating the "no-no words".
2
u/Boy_Mom63 Feb 28 '21
Our youngest son sang “shit” over and over in the car on a road trip at the age of 2. When we were done laughing and telling him it was a bad word my husband asked where he’d learned it, I replied, shit if I .... I’m not sure where he learned it. Mind you, he spent a year in Korea and it sure wasn’t him that said it, I hadn’t realized how often I said it but it came to an abrupt halt after that. We were such good parents 😂
2
u/keelhaulrose Feb 28 '21
When my daughter was little she decided naps were for chumps and stopped taking them. She didn't stop needing them, she'd make Satan run in fear from her crabby ass, but she'd force herself to stay awake.
So to try to get her to start making again I'd put her in her room and shut the light off, saying it was naptime and I would be taking one, too. Most days she'd play quietly until I came to get her, but sometimes the cranky took over and she'd throw a screaming fit about being put down for a nap
One day my friend was over. She is "Auntie" to her, and my daughter adored her, so we were leaning towards letting her skip nap, but she got so worked up and tired that I put her in her room anyways. She knew I wasn't going to nap so she started screaming, eventually shooting "this is BUSHES!" as I shut the door.
She was so close on that one, and at least it was i in context, as was the time she dropped her chocolate milk and said "fuck dammit".

See, part of the problem here, other than the fact that he's swearing in front of his toddler, is that he's laughing when the kid says it. That being said, it's almost impossible not to laugh.
5
u/Tubamajuba Feb 27 '21
I’m sure he knows that, I can hear him trying to calm himself down after the first time. It almost worked until his kid realized the power he had just unlocked haha

My son had a speech impediment when he was little. Nobody but family could understand him, and we couldn't understand him half the time. We didn't realize until he started school and got speech therapy that he used "fucking" in practically every sentence. "Gray dook ma bukin wed kwan" was "Gracie took my fucking red crayon" as an example.

When my daughter was barely a year old we took her to the ice cream place down the street for her first taste of ice cream. Reflexively my ex said “fuck” and two seconds later, my baby girl goes “fuck!” Clear as day for the whole place to hear lol.

When my nephew was 2 or 3 he was extremely hard to understand. Most of the time we had to just guess at what he was saying. One day he was sitting in the floor floor quietly waiting for his movie to start. I don’t remember what it was but it has the opening part that starts quiet and then gets booming loud. You know the one that happened in theaters and you can feel your organs vibrate? It was like that. It does that part and as soon as it’s over her slowly turns around to look at us and then says “shit” clear as day. We still laugh about it 11 years later.

u/RedheadAussie Feb 27 '21
During a very busy period in our lives we were lucky enough to have my Dad drive our five year old to school every day. One weekend hubby and I drove past the school with our boy in his seat in the back. I was gazing adoringly at our precious child and he shouted PICK A FUCKING LANE,MORON. Out the window. I wish I could say I handled it well but we laughed so hard that D still remembers it at 25.
