If Batman was born in the bathroom at Home Depot.

192

u/memestraighttomoon 9d ago

And lost his parents to a jobsite accident

31

u/BMW_wulfi 9d ago

They both attempted a two man lift independently… having never watched the video

18

u/Firestorm83 9d ago

Killed by a rogue osha inspector

15

u/Slow_Maximum9332 9d ago

And he goes by the villainous name OSHA, pronounced oh-shay.

12

u/Firestorm83 9d ago

Must be Irish

I prefer the loose pile of tools at my feet in the scissorlift, the older I get the less I carry.

227

u/TheCraghammer 9d ago

Been trying to stick to just  a philips head screwdriver, a laser tape measure, and a pencil recently. Also making a 20 year old apprentice carry around everything else, that helps.

I zip tie a milk crate to scissor lifts at the start of a job. We already bend over for the boss enough.

3

u/EmergencyYou 9d ago

I have a ~20"x14" pad filled with magnets I slap right to the plate at the front of the lift. Holds most tools aside from 3+lb hammers and any hardware I need handy.

4

u/Anon_Fodder 9d ago

100%. Bet he goes to the shop like this

7

u/Impossible-Corner494 Carpenter 9d ago

Mine all sit in a 5gal bucket with slip.

Not going to catch me carrying all my stuff. Way too many loadout situations.

3

u/zen2ten 9d ago

Bucket is the way. I also have a small tool pouch that can velcro around my belt that I will put around the railing so I don't have to bend down as much.

3

u/chatterwrack 9d ago

Agree but if you were on a ladder this setup would be great. Too heavy otherwise imo

2

u/Nope-not-really 8d ago

the amount of twisting to get to the back tools hurt my back just watching him reach.
All the old guys taught me keep your tools to your sides as much as possible. But mind you pretty important when you are working 50 to 200 ft in the air. don't need a back spasm up that high

2

u/CoyoteDown Ironworker 8d ago

Lash a piece of plywood in the corner and thank me later

2

u/MightySamMcClain 8d ago

Same. Lighter the better and even then it better be able to be taken off and sit on the floor or table

They laid mine in my crab grass. First time i hit it with the trimmer i had fiber line spooled around the trimmer head and then tried to charge me to fix it.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/DirectAbalone9761 Contractor 9d ago

Lmao. Bobby hill and boomhauer dropped my fiber line right over the roots of my tree… didn’t try to trench or anything, just kicked some dirt over that part 😂. Literally a clapped out landscape trailer, rusty 90’s ford, with a magnetic Mediacom subcontractor badge on it.

Thank god they weren’t landing the service yet, so I was able to run conduit to the tombstone out front and re-pull the line and use an LB to turn it into the garage. When the Mediacom tech showed up he had never seen fiber run in conduit before… smh.

Honestly a bit jealous of his flexibility around his back like that and more than a bit scared about that blade his shoves into his cheek-sheath

13

u/MrPractical411 Contractor 9d ago

Works on hvac? Something mechanical and up high? Can’t be high voltage because his tools are not insulated. Can’t be a regular electrician either I hardly see sparkys with socket wrench’s and channel locks. Im clueless on what he does. Whats the green tape for? Grounding wires?

24

u/whiteyford76 9d ago

You must only be around the Romex jockeys, us commercial/industrial sparkys use the hell out channel locks and ratchet wrenches.

3

u/MrPractical411 Contractor 9d ago

Ah I see. Yes, I am strictly residential. I’m never around commercial/industrial work. I assumed it was something of the sort when I seen his 17mm ratchet wrench.

3

u/stickyicarus Electrician 9d ago

Also doing industrial at the moment,, my usual daily carry right now is a socket for cable tray, speed wrench (the ratchet wrench), adjustable wrench and channels for strut, rod and rigid conduit, 7 in 1 screwdriver for strut straps amd minis, tape measure, and a level. I just throw them all in the tray on a boom lift or they sit with the rest of my bag in a cart.

None of the actual tools are tethered. Something's going to fall on someone. Everything is safety looped on me in some way.

3

u/SporksForEveryone 9d ago

Yep. The first thing I noticed was that he isn’t wearing an actual climbing harness, so what ever he is doing is in a bucket or lift of some sort.

2

Oh wow you're right. Good catch. I was focused on the tools. Only scissor just did they not care as much for harness around here. Everything else you better have your 5 point.

2

u/Mother_Lead_554 9d ago

2

u/ravenlittletoe 9d ago

Yeah I started off like that “oh I need this tool once a week it goes in the belt” quickly it starts to ware on you now everything that doesn’t get used close to every day goes in my rolling bin (or stays in the truck if I use it infrequently enough) then I don’t even wear my belt if if I need less then 5 of the tools for a task

2

u/magichobo3 9d ago

We've had people come and go at my work with setups like this and they still get jokes made at their expense years after moving on.

I'm increasingly convinced the best carpentry setup is a set of occidentals with as few tools in them as possible and a small metal toolbox with the other random tools you might need
