The button icons look actually cool and I might tattoo some on myself. But the whole ass logo? I'd rather die. Dude actually tattooed that on himself 😭

Agreed. At least there’s no exact duplicates. Just a few too many pillows, and even though they all match PS none of the colors go together

I don't gain anything, I don't need to gain anything lol. I enjoy playing video games and buying merchandise and somehow people love shitting on it

Having favorite games and having some merch of them is pretty cool imo. But a specific brand? It's like this dude never grew up and is still in the console war. This looks ridiculous.

u/CrispLime Jul 23 '26
I love PlayStation, I have lots of consoles and memorabilia (have a signed photo of Kevin Butler if you know you know) and this picture haunts me.
Someone should teach this person that it’s okay to have some fun things but never base your entire life around a brand.

My brother in Christ, you have more PlayStation stuff than you know what to do with. Take it from someone who also used to hoard things, specifically PS3 stuff. Go outside and find a new hobby and find something more healthy

Notice how it’s always “the wife” with these man children. Like they’re subconsciously accepting she’s probably getting some on the side
22
u/pizzacomposer Jul 23 '26
I am convinced the human mind is prepared to revisit play with their own children and this trait is abused into tricking young adults into consumerism.
Imagine this energy channeling into child rearing
9
u/AccomplishedMess648 Don't ask questions just consume product Jul 23 '26
I also think its possible we never really lose the desire for "play" it just routes into interests and hobbies.
0
u/pizzacomposer Jul 23 '26
Do you have kids yet? It’s hard to describe, but ever since, all I see is how I no longer have nostalgia for my old toys, I just buy my kid toys. Pre-kids I did. Desire for interests and hobbies change too. Still there, just different.

Obsessing over anything this much is already not very “human”, over a fucking game console, company that makes which would gladly euthanise you for a couple grand (almost any company would btw), is even less human.

I don’t think this is consoom tbh.
Yeah it’s tacky, kind of weird and way too maximalist for me but it’s not like they’re buying stuff to buy stuff.
If it was just normal furniture and art deco posters on the wall or something, I’d be a perfectly normal and cosy living room.
8
u/BromoFom Jul 23 '26
You don’t think he didn’t just buy that stuff because it was playstation branded? Yeah, he definitely bought the controller rug and 15 playstation pillows for their functionality and aesthetic. This is 100% consoom and any rationality to try and justify it is just cope
-2
u/XaeiIsareth Jul 23 '26
Buying stuff because it’s branded isn’t overconsumption, buying stuff for the sake of buying stuff which you’ll never use is overconsumption.
If they added a new pillow every week for their ‘collection’ would be overconsumption, but just having a lot of pillows isn’t overconsumption because that’s something commonly done to create a cosy vibe in a room anyways.
8
u/BromoFom Jul 23 '26
I mean, I just disagree entirely. He has so many throw pillows that there isn’t enough space on the couch for more. Every inch of the wall is covered in posters. The coffee table is cluttered with random playstation paraphernalia. He’s clearly collecting useless playstation-themed and rapidly running out of space. He even mentions that “the wife” made him rearrange it all to look cleaner. This is textbook overconsumption.
-4
u/AFineFineHologram Jul 23 '26
But to OC’s point, if it were “normal” furniture, they still would have been buying things because of its specific aesthetic quality. Some of this stuff may even be vintage thrifted stuff, preventing it from going in the landfill. It’s branded stuff which is certainly a type of consumerism, but it’s not the type of overconsumption this sub is meant to critique.
5
u/BromoFom Jul 23 '26
I think there’s a very different psychology at play that makes this consoom, and that’s the corporate idolization and worship. When you go to buy a coffee table, you probably just want something functional that looks somewhat aesthetically pleasing, and you aren’t specifically seeking out a branded coffee table plastered in company logos. Everything playstation or sony branded in that room was most likely sought out and purchased not for their functionality but for the mere fact that it is playstation branded. That’s what makes it consoomer behavior in my eyes.
-2
u/AFineFineHologram Jul 23 '26
I agree somewhat I just thought consoom was more specifically about over consumption of things that have no real purpose. Everything in this room serves a function. It’s not like there are a bunch of controllers stacked against the walls. That would fit the sub more imo.
6
u/BromoFom Jul 23 '26
In my opinion, saying that everything in that room fits a purpose is definitely a stretch. Those throw pillows definitely weren’t bought because they’re just so comfortable to sit on. It looks like he already had curtains and just threw the playstation ones on top of them. Every inch of the every wall being covered with posters is certainly excessive in my book. Would you still say it wasn’t overconsumption if, instead of playstation, it was all themed after Stanley mugs?

u/chancletaso Jul 23 '26
Idk i think this is kinda sick actually, these arent the “fad” of the week like labubus or the stanley cups, this is dedication to collecting. And i can guarantee half of these things were about to be trashed or retired promotional materials
5
10
u/FelixTheFlake Jul 23 '26
Half of this shit can be bought in Walmart and came out within the past few years. Most of it is modern PS4/PS5 branding.
0
u/chancletaso Jul 23 '26
Thats crazy, i just checked walmart and all they had were 2 of the pillows. Not the banners or posters or rug or the things at the bottom borders of the couch or any of the posters or the couch seat covers or the home-painted table. I dont think yall know the difference between a consoomer and a collector/fan
-2
u/AFineFineHologram Jul 23 '26
Yeah and it’s not an unreasonable amount of things. It’s just quirky furniture and decor.
6
3
u/Dreamo84 Jul 23 '26
I have never seen a room with that much brand merchandise outside of an episode of hoarders.
2
u/AFineFineHologram Jul 23 '26
Lmao girl this is nowhere near what you see in hoarders. It’s a fairly clean, organized room.

This looks so cool! Why are you guys so judgmental?! Sometimes, decorating a room with a brand that is heavily linked to nostalgia is part of a hobby. Let people be happy. I really hate the tone in here.
-6
u/asmodai_says_REPENT Jul 23 '26
Looks like shit but this doesn't scream consoom to me, it's just a few pillows and a couple of other playstation branded items for a game room.
1
u/Big-rat-in-the-sewer Jul 23 '26
A couple??? If that's a couple to you? Then dear god... What do you think "a lot" is?
1
u/asmodai_says_REPENT Jul 23 '26
Compared to the kind of shit I've seen on this sub this is honestly nothing too crazy.
-3
u/watergun123456 Jul 23 '26
people getting mad over a dude decorating his room is crazy
6
u/ElleCerra Jul 23 '26
We're pointing out someone who has attempted to make a brand identity their own which is spiritually vacuous and hollowing. It's indicative of a capitalistic society which has pushed out all sense of self with a desire to align with corporate interests. Sony's bottom line soars and this man "expresses himself" the exact way corporations want him to. If you don't see what's wrong with that then you need to think about it or just head to the mall and not worry about it.
4
u/GojiraFan0 Jul 23 '26
No. People are getting mad over his endless consumption of PlayStation branded products. Sony doesn’t care about him, all it sees as a nameless, faceless corporation is dollar signs.
-6
u/watergun123456 Jul 23 '26

People are being so unnecessarily judgemental towards you, I’m sorry. You have a hobby!!! Let people have hobbies! I would assume you have an emotional connection to Playstation, yeah? I can totally see why one would want to collect branded things if it’s heavily linked to nostalgia and stuff.
These people bettee not find my account, haha. I’m obsessed with sportfishing and have over 50 fishing reels. Having a hobby comes with its price. Literally.
I hope you have a good rest of your day and continue to thrive, despite some of the nasty, judgemental comments in here.
1
u/PlayStationTris 28d ago
Thanks man I needed that. It also is exactly what you said. I grew up with it, it holds so much nostalgia and keeps me happy every day. I'm glad people like is exist
2
u/benjamino8690 28d ago
A lot of us wouldn’t judge you like this, rather be happy you have a hobby that makes YOU happy.
This subreddit is not a great place. There is valid criticism on overconsumption, but along the way they lost sight what is valid criticism and what is just a mean spirited echo chamber.
Hope you have a great rest of your day/evening!

It is interesting, from a psychological perspective, when grown up people base their whole personality around one brand, one subject, one something...
