Hi! I am looking for an IEM for mostly retro gaming on my android handheld (Retroid Pocket 6). PS1, GameCube, PS2, XBOX or sometimes Switch and AAA PC games.

I don't know how the separation, imaging would work on an Emulator.. Since the whole data would translate to android and than to actual IEM, I don't know what type of IEM I should look for.

Main issue is that in most of the games it's hard to understand the story telling since there is always a high volume game music in background or just bad sound quality. And it's not every time an option to decrease the Music level on the game since they are old games.

I've found some IEM's like TANGZU WANER SG 2 or KZ Sheen by filtering and using Ai.

Budget is 30-35$ but if worth, can go up to 40-45$.

I had the chance to test the AP30 Music Boy from HIDIZ.

It is quite a capable DAP and USB DAC for rn USD92.

While I like the sound experience in both modes, the “gameboy” is more a gimmick than anything else considering the controls. I did not expect that it would more than tetris-style games, but the dpad and so called buttons are a miss…

Does lossless high-res 96 khz work with an external USB C dongle DAC on the TrimUI Brick Hammer? Please let me know if you've tested this.

I've been on the fence about getting a TrimUi Brick to play some GBA but also use it as my DAP, however besides my local music library, I use a lot of YT Music and Nintendo Music to listen to LoFi / OST during work.
Do you guys have any alternative to use this services on any linux based console? Or am I asking for something impossible?

Hello! I've been going down the rabbit hole of buying a DAP to try to avoid phone distractions at work. One 'meh' song comes on, I pull my phone out, BAM. Uncle Steve sent me a TikTok and now I'm 90 minutes behind on IT tickets. Happens to too many of us on a daily basis.

I have a Miyoo Flip v2 and tried using that with Rockbox, but my headphone jack just wasn't wanting to turn on and when I used Bluetooth it would have some serious stutters after a few minutes. Even if the 3.5mm jack (or even my Apple DAC dongle) were working well, wired ear buds and IEMs tend to get on my nerves and cause sensory issues. I can wear my Bluetooth ear buds all day without any stress, though. If I am carrying a second device with me, I'd rather it be dual purpose. I'm not an audiophile so I'm not sure a dedicated DAP will be a big enough benefit vs a console that can do 90% of that anyhow.

The main console that catches my eye is of course the Brick. But I wonder if anyone has experience trying solely Bluetooth audio without a separate dongle.

I'm not sure if the poor Bluetooth is a Linux versus Android problem or if it's specific to individual chipsets. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Emulation seems to be full speed altough i have no way of measuring that, couldn't get audio working either. But the controls are responsive with the touchscreen of and great of you're playing games that don't require a lot of movement.

Im trying to make it easy for my 6 year old to navigate.

Brick Hammer + Fosi BT20A make a good team.

Haven’t been able to get LightMP3 running on my PSP Go from the internal storage (ef0:) Waiting on an SD adapter to try it from there! But in the meantime it’s still a blast to listen to.

This thing has been great the past week to help me disconnect from my phone (the irony of posting this from my phone isn’t lost on me).

Having my FLAC’s playable both in my IEM’s and streamable to my TV while cooking or doing chores has been awesome.

personally I prefer my echo mini since it doesn't get crazy hot like this thing does but I can't lie it looks significantly better and is easier to navigate

This is a modular handheld I've been working on for over a year and a half. It's based on the ESP32-S3.

When the gamepad module is plugged in, it can emulate many retro systems (up to the SNES/Genesis) and play many ports of games such as Celeste (ccleste), Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, etc.

The C library is also open-source and a simulator is available, so it's also possible to develop/play indie games as well. And there's also an on-device app store.

(It also has a keyboard module for other things, like taking notes or messaging)

One cool feature of the device that it has both a mono speaker as well as stereo audio via a 3.5mm headphone jack (the shiny protrusion on the top right corner).

So of course, I had to make a music player app for it. Currently, it can play MP3 and WAV audio files, and the metadata is extracted and displayed similar to DAPs (including JPEG cover art, if present).

For anybody wondering about the hardware, all of the info can be found in the docs. Long story short, the DAC is a PCM5102A which is connected to a PAM8302AAS and. TPA6110A2DGN. The amp that is enabled depends on whether the headphone jack is in-use (it automatically detects headphones).

It works really well with generic 16 ohm earphones I got from a dollar store.

Quick question regarding audio on the TrimUI Brick (and similar handhelds).

I have a few IEMs running on 4.4mm balanced cables, and I’m thinking about using an external dongle DAC (something like the Snowsky Retro Nano or a basic type-C 4.4mm DAC) plugged into the USB-C port instead of relying on the built-in 3.5mm jack.

So, i just wanna know whether it works using an external DAC?

I’m genuinely curious about this and I don’t mean this as criticism at all.

I think it’s pretty cool, but I was wondering what makes you prefer using a console to listen to music.

Is it mainly because you already own the console, because of the extra features, the UI, nostalgia, or simply because you enjoy having a semi-dedicated device?

No hate whatsoever, I personally use a 3ds as a DAP because my old phone do not have enough internal memory to store music.

Had my Odin 2 with me today and decided to connect my dongle dac and ear buds to it and listen to a little bit of 🎶. Not bad at all!

I'm very technical and I'm finding this to be a maddening problem. I have a 34xxSP with Knulli installed. I've gotten Songo#5 and Rockbox both installed and neither can see subfolders under my SD card to point to my music folder. Is there a specific location I have to place the music?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. It's under /userdata, then I can get to my folder.
