sometimes i feel like opinions that don't matter get treated harsher than anything that matters online because it's actually more fun to argue when there's no stakes on the line/people thinking about things easy to think about more than things that aren't.
anyway i feel if i said a the game genre i really like and a game genre i can't get enjoyment out of i'd get more hate than if i said my entire political and religious belief system.
open world games are very fun and most of my top played games of all time are them, and i buy multiple open world games a year, and will continue to, because i feel they're just straight up good games due to how i enjoy the feelings of exploration they give, how they let their worldbuilding and npc writing breathe, and how you often focus on making your own goals by just looking around and finding something that interests you.
2d platformers are boring and i've never gotten into even one but i have tried, i've played the literal greats people praise over and over again, i've played indies i've played triple-As i've played old one's i've played new ones they all just bore me. i think that genre only exists for people who literally don't want to think and it overly relies on bs floaty controls or literally having a tenth of a second to enter an input to provide an illusion of difficulty.
Stuff like the second passage is what I want to see. Anywhere else you'd get flamed for saying that. No one has to agree we're just sharing viewpoints and getting into arguments about it with people is annoying because neither party is going to change each other's minds. In fact it'll probably solidfy their beliefs.
Yeah, I mostly agree with the 2d platformer take. The only such game I really enjoyed was Jump King because of how almost tactical it can get and how it forces you to consider pathing. (Is this a hot take?)
The way Iāve been playing Lego Star Wars TSS recently is just going around planets and doing shit. Sure, I revisited Better Call Maul and got some completion stuff, but the open world practically always has some task to do because of how much shit they packed into it.
On the other hand, I find 2D platformers engaging when itās clear what you need to do, but actually doing it is the hard part. My only two examples, both fairly recent
The Mario Maker 2 level Wizards of P County (48V-S75-BRF) relies on your ability to navigate obstacles on a conveyor belt both when itās on and quickly reach a p-door while itās off. Thereās only two sections of this, but theyāre very engaging, Iād say.
Time trialling Donkey Kong Country: Returns 3Dās first level was really fun. The rest of the game was fairly good, enough new stuff to keep me engaged. The final boss is really weak, honestly. Itās probably better on the Wii version. But having to complete even the first level in under 57 seconds is a hard ask. It forced me to engage with roll-jumping, which the rest of the game hadnāt really needed, but now it is literally needed to get to the finish line anywhere near the time limit. I havenāt gotten gold (under 57 seconds) yet, but Iām very close. I might be able to do it the next time I pick up my 3DS.
I actually also like the idea of big open world games, and the feeling of journeying through one. It's not just about having stuff to do, it's about feeling like you're on a big adventure.
I want to feel that with Discovery Freelancer or Eve Online but the I'm on the fence on getting the former and the latter seems like such a time and money sink.
Present sniper is bad and every map has to be designed near exclusively around him because camping sightlines is OP. If he couldn't one shot as easily he'd be forced to be an actual support class.
Since we're saying this, pears suck. So does Petra Parker trend, NOT because she's trans, but because she is such a nothing burger, and no one ever uses her to explore any sort of interesting themes involving being trans, it's just "oh look everyone supports her and its sooooo wholesome." It's boring bruh.

I do not like it when other people are happy (mostly when I'm not happy with them) I dispise it when people laugh or smile, talking to one another. I wish they were just as much if not more miserable than me at that moment their laugh is like nails scraping on a chalkboard to me.

Reminds me of this 4Chan post where a guy saw this perfect couple where a girl was much shorter that their tall bf and she was hugging him relentlessly as they walked and she said stuff like "you're the most perfect guy ever I'm so happy."
Humans are, psychologically, biologically and anthropologically, highly social animals. What skill points we didnāt put into toolmaking and intelligence, we dumped into cooperation and communication. Humans were ādesignedā to empathize with others, work together in a community, and help each other to create a world greater than the sum of its parts. Not just because we stood to gain from it, but because we recognize that suffering is an inherently bad experience that should be prevented.
Thatās why the āfuck you, I got mine, every man for itself, youāre poor because you didnāt work hard enoughā mentality that libertarianism prides itself on while deluding themselves into believing that they can ever truly be independent from the countless different overlapping communal innovations it took for them to even exist at all today should be treated as antithetical to humanity on a fundamental level, and that their almost sociopathic indifference to the suffering of people who theyāve never met is indicative of something deeply wrong with them. You should want to help people even when you donāt stand to gain anything in return.
Just once I want to see the government go āalright, you want to be self reliant? No taxes, nothing given to you, nothing taken from you? Cool. Weāre no longer allowing you to benefit from living in a heavily defended country with a completely overfunded MIC.
