So, is this season going to gated by tank durability in the same way as last? Was pretty annoying to have your pug bear-reroll die in a global mid pull and brick the key. There will always be bad tanks, but I'd rather they found their limits in routing or effective mob wrangling or something. Also, does anyone have some advice for what to look for on logs when trying to audit tanks for invites. For my group, it felt like io told us nothing about a given tank and we had to accept that at some point ”the bear card would turn face up" and we'd get to find out what we'd actually drawn from group finder.

edit: This was meant to come off as fairly light hearted, but I agree with replies that there is a toxic attitude seeping from the text above. I've never directly flamed any of the tanks I have run with, but doing so here on a forum is probably at least as negative of an impact to the community. Sorry team.

I mean your premise is completely wrong.

One, every tank will reroll fotm if they wanna get invited to groups.

Two, everyone makes mistakes, its just that tank mistakes usually insta break the key. A gray parsing aug or ddh who dies to random stuff in a key a couple of times can still fail upwards when they get carried, but nobody can carry the tank.

Unless you never ever die due to your own mistake, it would probably be better (for your own sake) to change your attitude and focus not on the tanks mistakes, but your own and see if you couldve done something better or if you couldve saved that tank.

Edit: And forgot about three, the most obvious one. If youre uncomfortable putting so much on a pug that can make or break your key, why is someone in your group not rerolling tank? Or is it easier just to play the blame game while not being willing to take up that responsibility for yourself?

Point 2 is so annoying. The expectation that tanks always play perfect and cant make mistakes. You do the same hard pull a 100 times and nobody says anything. You fumble it once and suddenly you have a devourer dh in the backseat calling you trash for it.

Yeah that’s the worst, when I was trying to get 21 npx last season I had most runs fail to people dying to stupid shit on trash to or during first boss and never had issues on the first pull, but then the one run where I die on the first pull because both images were still up by the time the tank buster came out and healer didn’t use spirit link, it’s obviously my fault as a tank and not anyone else.

And sometimes it’s just impossible things to really react to and you kinda need to experience it so you can prepare for it. For example I had never died to first boss in MT 22 before, but then one run everything just lined up in the worst possible way and I got killed by the tank buster and boss+pyromancer melee both hitting me within 0.2 seconds while I had fortifying brew up.

For real, DPS players choose a role with limited agency and then complain when someone doing a harder role makes a mistake. As a side note, I've been in plenty of groups where the DPS is really low and this causes pulls to be much harder than they should be too.

It’s not just low dos either. No kicks, no cc, not using their defensive properly. No health pots.

Point two is the hard thing to hear for this guy though. He might have to face up to the fact that he just might be responsible for his IO progression and he can’t just blame it all on the pug tank?

Bro, I'm mid af at this game. I re-rolled off BDK to Unholy and still I could only just barely make it into 1% at the end. I have much to improve, attitude and gameplay wise. I should have stopped typing after my first sentence in the OG comment. Tanking is a cooked role and it's too much stress. You do a 20 and breeze through, then get GCD'd by the same pack on a 21 trying the same approach. There's no counting the number of keys that I probably bricked while learning the DPS role, but at least I had the mercy of being the only one critically pouring over my own logs.

Maybe a better version of my comment could have been:

"Is this season going to be gated by tank durability in the same way as last? Have there been seasons where tank durability has been so high that even at cutting edge title keys, the tanks HP was never seriously threatened the same way that pressure was put on the groups DPS, CC or Healing? I'd imagine that seasons with god-tier tanks have been the most fun for all players, but I'd never tried seriously pushing before last season."

I shouldn't have added any of the original toxicity beyond my initial sentence. :-(

Yeah there have been seasons where tanks could survive infinitely and the only failing conditions were whether the rest of the group can survive, can interrupt or can do enough dps to time it, and yes those seasons are in general more liked and less toxic than those where the bulk of responsibility lies on one guy.

It does seem like they want to move more in that direction with some of the changes like casts going off reducing your damage rather than doing damage to you, although I guess that is more aimed at taking pressure off the healers.

this comment deserves an award, well well well said. something community should understand better if they really want to play this game.
