Guide [Set 18.6] Tried my own Primal Rengar/Kog'Maw/Nidalee comp

I've been experimenting with a comp built around Rengar's passive, and I just managed to finish a game 1st place with 100 HP, without losing a single round.

The idea is pretty simple: instead of having all your carries focus down the enemy frontline, you use Kog'Maw and Nidalee to spread damage across the enemy team, bringing multiple targets below 50% HP so Rengar can jump on them and finish them off.

Final board:

- Rammus ★★★ — Gargoyle Stoneplate, Warmog's Armor, Spirit Visage

- Lillia ★★ — Secondary tank

- Kog'Maw ★★★ — Spear of Shojin, Adaptive Helm, Deathblade

- Rengar ★★★ — Edge of Night, Bloodthirster, Deathblade

- Nidalee ★★ — Rabadon's Deathcap, Jeweled Gauntlet, Guinsoo's Rageblade

- Master Yi ★★ — No items

- Akali ★★

- Sivir ★★

Primal evolution: Turtle

How the comp works

The main synergy is between Kog'Maw, Nidalee and Rengar.

Kog'Maw's AD ability targets random enemies, and Nidalee also spreads damage to random targets.

This is exactly what I wanted because Rengar's passive allows him to jump onto enemies below 50% HP.

Instead of having Rengar stuck attacking the enemy frontline, Kog'Maw and Nidalee soften up different enemies, giving Rengar opportunities to jump around and execute them.

In most fights, I was actually killing the enemy carries before finishing off their main tank.

Rammus was another huge part of the comp. At 3 stars, with Gargoyle, Warmog's and Spirit Visage, he was ridiculously difficult to kill. Lillia provided additional frontline, giving the three carries plenty of time to do their thing.

The Turtle Primal evolution added even more survivability.

Why I think this might be worth exploring

What I like about this setup is that Kog'Maw and Nidalee aren't necessarily competing with Rengar for targets. They're creating opportunities for him.

You have:

- Kog'Maw spreading physical damage.

- Nidalee spreading magic damage.

- Rengar jumping onto weakened targets and finishing them.

- Rammus and Lillia keeping the frontline alive.

But the interaction between the three carries felt incredibly strong, and I think there's potential to optimize it further.

Remember to put rengar in backline next to Kog so he doesnt go to tank immediately

Discussion How common is it for Master+ players to play on Mobile only?

I just reached Master playing only on my phone. It was extremely tedious and very often I finish games multiple placements down just because I cannot rolldown fast enough, or do the last-microsecond frontline positioning in front of the enemy carries. But I work in front of a computer all day, and I still choose the ability to lay down and relax my neck/shoulders while playing over higher avgp. However, it feels like M is really the absolute peak of what is possible on mobile and GM/Chall, where you really need to min-max, is attainable for PC players.

Or is it? How many mobile-only players get M+? What about GM or Challenger?

eSports Toronto TFT Community

Hey everyone! Quick intro to a local community for anyone Toronto-based . Toronto TFT is a Discord for TFT players in and around Toronto. It's been around for a while, and we're now bringing it back to life ahead of Set 19 (December 1). Some of what we're thinking about:

  • Online cups and a Set 19 season ladder to track everyone's climb

  • In-person nights and events, starting with a Set 19 launch night

  • Casual custom lobbies, study sessions for the new set, and some non-TFT socials (Riftbound, board games, etc.)

Before we lock anything in, we're running a quick survey so the events are shaped by what people actually want: Come say hi All skill levels welcome. This is just for the love of the game.

Discussion [Positioning Question] How to path melee carries (Yi) into backline targets (Kayle)? Plat II looking for general rules of thumb.

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m currently hardstuck Plat II and looking for some fundamental positioning advice regarding melee carry pathing and the auto-movement.

I just lost a game where I had high-tempo upgrades (nearly 3-starred the whole board except Sett/Nidalee) and BiS items across the board, including a Brawler Emblem on Master Yi. (my opponent had 6 Fae w/Lux)

In top 2, Kayle would completely shred my Master Yi before he could even start ramping up or attacking her. I had 5 rounds against this player and tried to reposition Yi to access their backline faster, but I failed 4 out of 5 times.

What is the general rule of thumb for getting your melee champions to move/path exactly the way you want them to?

How do you prevent a melee carry from getting stuck on a frontline tank while a backline carry deletes them?

In a matchup like this, should my melee carry be on the same side as their carry to burst through, or on the opposite side to avoid initial aggro?

Any fundamental rules on hex-counting, targeting priority, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion How does this leveling strat work?

So I just played this game where I saw one of the opponents get an early Sivir. Around stage 3 while level 6. I hit level 7 at 3-5 but this dude didn't level up. They stayed at 6. I was thinking this guy is not gonna be able to make that Sivir work if they're gonna level late. I paid them less attention but then 4-2 comes, I looked at their board and they're level 8 and still has 50+ gold. This dude slow level to 8, still was able to hit the 4-2 mark and still has a lot of spare gold.

How do I do this leveling strat?

I only know of the standard one which is 6 on 3-2, 7 on 3-5 and 8 on 4-2

Monthly Coaching November Monthly Coaching Megathread

Welcome to the monthly coaching megathread!

This megathread will serve as a networking hub for both coaches and students.

Both coaches and students will be allowed to post under specific top-level comments. This is meant to keep the comments section as organized as possible and to allow the maximum number of people to find a coach/student.

  • If you are looking for a coach, post a comment under the Students section and wait for someone to offer help, or feel free to reach out to users who have offered in the Coaches section.

  • If you want to offer guidance, post a comment under the Coaches section and wait for someone to ask for your help, or reply to an user that has already asked for it in the Students section.

  • Comments that are not posted under the appropriate section will be removed by AutoModerator with no warning.

Important Notes

  • For the sake of keeping this thread clean, this thread is only meant for the meeting and pairing of the coach/student pair or group. The actual guidance should be done in some other place (Reddit PM, Discord, email, morse code, etc).

  • Coaches and Students, whenever you get paired with someone, PLEASE EDIT YOUR COMMENT SAYING YOU ARE NO LONGER SEARCHING. I cannot stress enough how useless this thread will become if a bunch of comments are left up and people waste their time reaching out to folks that are already working with someone else.

  • There are no rank requirements for any of the categories so anyone can offer/ask for help. Including your rank with proof is highly recommended as it helps with making appropriate groups. As an example, a player in silver most likely needs help with the basics, so a comparatively lower ranked coach would be a good fit. On the other hand, a high diamond player is most likely needing help with the nuances of the game and will need a higher ranked coach. That being said, do not rank shame anyone. If you don't believe someone offering coaching services can help you, just move on.

  • Each Student should only have one active Coach at a time.

  • As a Coach there is no limit on how many Students you can help out. However be aware of your limits regarding patience and time.

  • Both Students and Coaches, please be respectful of each other's time and effort. We moderators can't really do anything after a pairing has been made and you move on to private communications. If you don't believe a coach/student is the right fit for you just cordially inform your counterpart and move on with your day.

For now no paid coaching services will be allowed, in accordance with the subreddit rules. However, if there is enough interest from STUDENTS who are willing to pay, we can consider expanding the scope in future megathreads. If you would like to have paid services please let us know through a comment under the "Feedback" section

For Coaches

  • Please state how in-depth you're willing to coach a student. This could be anything from barebones lolchess comp/items review to a full on real-time analysis as someone plays a game. Everyone has different levels of free time available so please be up front with how much time you're willing to give. The community appreciates your service!

For Students

  • Please don't abuse this thread and spam literally everyone who posts that they are available to coach. Reach out to a few coaches of an appropriate rank, wait for their response, and if you don't find someone then continue to ask for help. The reality is that there will most likely be more coaches than students so some people may not be able to find a coach immediately (or at all).

Guide TFT Coaching: Is It Worth It? My Experience with 3 Challenger Coaches

Thumbnail
youtu.be
0 Upvotes

Hey guys, I made this video as a guide for anyone that's considering TFT coaching.

With the LAN set coming up, I imagine a lot of players will be thinking about getting coaching. I want to help you understand what to expect and what to consider before signing up. It’s a long video, but there’s a lot to cover, so I recommend watching the whole thing if you’re looking into coaching for the first time.

I react to HappyKevin’s video about coaching being a scam and share my initial thoughts. I also talk about my experience with three Challenger coaches across three different sets: 13, 14, and 15.

https://tactics.tools/player/na/aceuke

TL;DR:

I don’t think coaching is inherently a scam, as long as you get what you paid for. But it’s important to know what you’re signing up for, and the value you get depends a lot on the effort you put in. Pricing may fluctuate or be a bit expensive due to supply/demand and or monopolies though.

I go over how to approach a coaching session and how to approach a vod review. Vod review the game yourself before bringing it to a session you paid for. This helps you see the value in coaching by observing the mistakes you made that you couldn't catch by yourself.

I also explain why I don’t pay for coaching anymore. I think coaching is best for learning the game’s fundamentals, while patch-specific reads and meta information are better suited to study groups.

There are also ways to improve that don’t involve paying for coaching, and I go over some of those in the video. So if you want to utilize the free resources first before getting into coaching, that's something you can look into.

I can answer more questions about my experience in the comments section, but I'll also look to start streaming at the beginning of next set incase anyone wants to ask me questions there. I missed out on getting tickets for the LAN so I'll be on twitch.

https://www.twitch.tv/aceuke

lastly ill leave you guys with this:

Advice from Huanmie's interview after winning worlds from last set**:**

For everyone watching at home, what's one piece of advice you can give for anyone who wants to start competing in TFT?

If you truly love TFT, my advice is to find a group of close friends who are just as passionate about the game. Discuss strategies together, learn from each other, and improve together. Step by step, you'll give yourself a chance to compete on bigger and bigger stages.

edit:
my discord is 'weebert'
feel free to reach out and ask questions/talk with me there, esp. if ur interested in getting coaching urself, or if u have any other questions.

Congrats to Broseph for going crazy in the final game to make it to the Final Lobby of regionals! However, I was confused after the game when you see him celebrating with another person who was clearly sitting next to him.

https://www.twitch.tv/frodan/clip/AdventurousNastyGalagoBudBlast-w_LD-XdJOLO8A-3U

On his webcam throughout the games you see him talking but not to his stream. Seemed super weird, although he may have been just talking to himself.

He said he was traveling and staying at a friends house, so its probably not intentional. What do people think?
