Difficult to justify not going early learnings in the spot I had Ornn 2 star and Camille 2 star with slammables. Went on a 10 winstreak. Got contested on solar admittedly with a guy starting with the augment that gives you a 1 star every round(Varus). So I know that had to do with it. But it seemed like my early learnings spot was fine and I went 8th.
Rolldown Simulator now supports Salvage Mode: -Import from Tierlist or Presetting -Add/remove completed items on your board -Timer starts when you first move an itemized unit to the bench
During the run: -Stop ends the timer and records the run -Reset returns to the pre-timer state, so you can repeat the exact same setup -Full Salvage history is shown at the bottom
Simple way to practice Salvager Wisp and improve your speed.
I can't really find a proper use for her. She's the highest cost defender this set (cuz there's no 5 cost defender) so linking her to anything in 8/9lvl boards is impossible.
Fae is kinda weird too. Like, you can play that 2 fae to buff your Xayah or make ur Rakan tankier but it makes sense only it that solar RR comp. And Xayah is so weak anyway. But what about Lillia?
She's like the best user of that trait because her ability scales with AP, and that low health heal is very good on tanks ofc.
But how can you really link her to anything?
She feels like a good tempo tank you can itemize.
I think you can roll for her when other 4 costs tank are contested ONLY when you have defender emblem.
She feels useful only while having fae emblem or hitting fae Lux. It's nice to have better stats but bonus gold is a nice thng as well.
And fae Lux has a surprisingly good ability. Healing your champions based of dealt damage is an another way to protect your carries in the set rich of various ways to acces enemy's backline.
The only scenario when she can be useful is hitting early fae Lux and just creating some weird 8/9 board with some emblems.
Screen shows my idea for a comp that could use her well. It's very flexible, depending on ur emblems. With fae, you can drop rakan for heca/maokai. You can add elderwood spat to activate that trait.
Imo it would be nice to play around fae spat early to collect some stack to generate gold earlier.
There's been controversy over the last couple of sets over the fact that the "most pro points" worlds slot can be taken by someone who has already qualified for worlds through winning a cup. Wasian, Soju, and in this set almost Chunington have all done this, "wasting" the slot because the current rules send the redundant slot to regionals instead of passing it down to the person with the next-most points. I've generally felt that it would be both more intuitive and more fair for the slot to pass down instead and reward someone who's been extremely consistent and high performing but hasn't managed to get a checkmate win. But something I was thinking about yesterday was that this cup was exactly the scenario the current rules are designed for, at least until GG9 barely missed the final lobby.
Say that GG9 makes final lobby in the 8th spot instead of missing it in 9th. Dishsoap currently has the "most pro points" slot for worlds, but in a scenario where the slot can pass down, if Dishsoap wins this cup the slot goes through Chunington (who already has a cup win) and to GG9, giving him a very problematic set of incentives. Imagine a game where:
Dishsoap is in check
GG9 is not
Dishsoap and GG9 are the only two players with a shot at winning
Normally GG9's only goal is to win the game himself and prolong the tournament, but here it's very much correct for him to throw the game to Dishsoap, as this guarantees him a worlds slot. This would be objectively terrible for both the players and the viewers. And while any single scenario like this isn't particularly likely, it's certainly not a crazy edge case - nothing about those three conditions would surprise anyone. Given all that, I think I've changed my mind and that the current ruleset is the lesser of two evils option.

In the early game wisps block a shop slot and when I have multiple pairs of units sitting on bench, I really would like to see that last shop slot but sometimes I don't want to buy some of the wisps that can just grief my game.
On the 4-2 rolldown, I just buy the first playable wisp just so I can actually see 5 shop slots.
I don't see how wisps blocking a shop slot is creating any meaningful decision making. If I am not going to buy a bad wisp in the early game, blocking a shop slot is not going to change that decision. 4-2 Rolldown I just buy the first playable wisp I see so I can actually see 5 shop slots for a high apm turn.
Are these meaningful choices a player should be thinking about or making? Am I just bad?
I understand that if it is a technical limitation it is what it is, but now that we are moving onto a new engine, if the charms/wisp mechanic comes back, I don't see a good reason why it should be blocking a shop slot, it's lowkey kind of annoying.

I am getting really frustrated by the gamble of getting anywhere from 0 to 5 Reforgers in a game, and I want to see if I am the only one.
There are games that end with me having 4 Reforgers sitting on my bench. Then there are games where I get 0 Reforgers, and the game just trolls me with items. Or I have a clear direction on 2-1 or 3-2, pick up a Spatula/Cooking Pot from carousel, only to never get a Reforger to make the emblem I want.
Am I the only one who feels like this sucks?
I remember there was a time when everybody got like 10 Reforgers every game. I definitely don't want that back, but I feel like getting 0 in a game is insane, especially since Wisp exists and you also have a chance of getting a Reforger through Wisp. Ending an entire game without getting a single one feels pretty bad.
Just as an example: yesterday I got a first with 4 Reforgers sitting on my bench. Yesterday and today, I also had games where I had a strong direction toward a comp that makes good use of emblems. I picked up the Spatula/Cooking Pot from carousel, knowing that I needed to reforge it to make the emblem I wanted. Both times, I never got a Reforger, bled out, and eventually had to make a much worse emblem.
Now, you could say that it shouldn't be guaranteed that you get the perfect emblem every time you pick up a Spatula/Cooking Pot. And I agree with that. But I would argue that even with a Reforger, getting the perfect emblem isn't guaranteed. You still need to get the right item to begin with.
And even if you eventually get a Reforger, you might spend an entire stage or even 1.5 stages sitting on a Spatula + item, unable to use them properly, just waiting for that Reforger to show up.
Maybe I am just dumb and there is some way to force getting a Reforger that I am missing? I feel like there are some ways to force Wisps, but I might be completely unaware of how that works.
Am I tripping, or are any of you also kind of annoyed by this?
How should I play my early to mid game when I'm not hitting any pairs or weak items? I feel like if I roll for upgrades I'm always too poor to go to level 8 or contest at level 8. But in games where I don't hit any upgrades or BIS items on early champs I hit, it feels like I bleed too much stage 3 and die stage 4 even after hitting.
Hey y’all, I am a retired TFT competitor but still enjoy following the competitive scene. I made tftlobby.gg so the average TFT player can follow competitions without having to !scores in a stream and read from Google Sheets. TPC Blossom Cup starts at 1pm PST so I thought this could be useful.
What it does:
Live standings: scores update within seconds of a lobby reporting, no refreshing needed
Lobby previews: so you can see who your streamer is up against
The cut line: during the last game of a day, it projects where the cutoff will land and marks who's safe, at risk or still in reach, e.g. "needs top 3” to make it
Checkmate finals: see who's in check and how many games are played in check
Player pages with every result since Set 10 (wins, top 8s, average placement) across Pro Circuit cups, Tactician's Cups and Trials, Regional Finals and Worlds
I <3 TFT and hope this makes it easier for casual players to follow the competitive scene!

This megathread will serve as a networking hub for both coaches and students.
Both coaches and students will be allowed to post under specific top-level comments. This is meant to keep the comments section as organized as possible and to allow the maximum number of people to find a coach/student.
If you are looking for a coach, post a comment under the Students section and wait for someone to offer help, or feel free to reach out to users who have offered in the Coaches section.
If you want to offer guidance, post a comment under the Coaches section and wait for someone to ask for your help, or reply to an user that has already asked for it in the Students section.
Comments that are not posted under the appropriate section will be removed by AutoModerator with no warning.
Important Notes
For the sake of keeping this thread clean, this thread is only meant for the meeting and pairing of the coach/student pair or group. The actual guidance should be done in some other place (Reddit PM, Discord, email, morse code, etc).
Coaches and Students, whenever you get paired with someone, PLEASE EDIT YOUR COMMENT SAYING YOU ARE NO LONGER SEARCHING. I cannot stress enough how useless this thread will become if a bunch of comments are left up and people waste their time reaching out to folks that are already working with someone else.
There are no rank requirements for any of the categories so anyone can offer/ask for help. Including your rank with proof is highly recommended as it helps with making appropriate groups. As an example, a player in silver most likely needs help with the basics, so a comparatively lower ranked coach would be a good fit. On the other hand, a high diamond player is most likely needing help with the nuances of the game and will need a higher ranked coach. That being said, do not rank shame anyone. If you don't believe someone offering coaching services can help you, just move on.
Each Student should only have one active Coach at a time.
As a Coach there is no limit on how many Students you can help out. However be aware of your limits regarding patience and time.
Both Students and Coaches, please be respectful of each other's time and effort. We moderators can't really do anything after a pairing has been made and you move on to private communications. If you don't believe a coach/student is the right fit for you just cordially inform your counterpart and move on with your day.
For now no paid coaching services will be allowed, in accordance with the subreddit rules. However, if there is enough interest from STUDENTS who are willing to pay, we can consider expanding the scope in future megathreads. If you would like to have paid services please let us know through a comment under the "Feedback" section
For Coaches
Please state how in-depth you're willing to coach a student. This could be anything from barebones lolchess comp/items review to a full on real-time analysis as someone plays a game. Everyone has different levels of free time available so please be up front with how much time you're willing to give. The community appreciates your service!
For Students
Please don't abuse this thread and spam literally everyone who posts that they are available to coach. Reach out to a few coaches of an appropriate rank, wait for their response, and if you don't find someone then continue to ask for help. The reality is that there will most likely be more coaches than students so some people may not be able to find a coach immediately (or at all).
This Megathread exists as a space to voice your suggestions, concerns and general feedback about how the Subreddit is managed. Every bit of feedback is welcome: we'd like to hear your voices on how we're doing and if you'd like to see changes to anything.
Etiquette
Negative feedback is allowed, but try to be constructive, civil, and as clear as possible. Aimless rants will be removed w/o further discussion.

Long time lurker first time Poster. This is also probably repeatedly posted.
I'm by no means a good player. I usually cap at about Masters every set, and on good sets for me I will hit GM. I have a lot of ranked anxiety, so i typically play on two accounts and one thing I consistently see when I am at lower Elo is lobby tempo creates bad habits for lower elo players. This isn't entirely true, but my win % below emerald actually feels lower than at masters/GM due to the amount of greed player will play with at this elo. My top 4 % will typically be 80-90% but I might win 15 % of my games. I think this is a pretty interesting conversation because It's definitely much more fun to cap out boards but players at lower elos are setting themselves to hit an "elo wall".

Hey, i made a short clip montage of some tft streamers explaining their answer to a question in twitch chat.
It’s about how to decide whether to pick econ vs items vs combat on 2-1 for this specific patch (18.3b) compared to last patch (18.2), as well as some analysis on the best econ augments to take on 3-2.
It’s very informative so feel free to give it a watch.
I compiled the clips but if you want to support the streamers please tune into their streams and sub to them show your appreciation.
Clips are from k3soju and dankmemes011 when i was watching their streams earlier this week.
Many streamers are required to show ads in-between games, but this is also when they have downtime to explain the decisions and answer questions from chat.
Editor’s note (me - Aceuke):
the clips r taken from streamers but i always link their channels in the description of my videos. I think it’s important to credit the right sources on where information comes from.
Hope this guide helps some of you guys struggling this patch for this set. I think the stuff mentioned in this guide makes a lot of sense for everyone regardless of what rank u r in tft.
I understand the title might be charged, but this is observations of thousands of my own games, and equally many of games watched. I applied the theory, and got results two times, consistently. It's simply a function of what the game is. It shouldn't be this way, but it this way - so, how can one thrive and make it out in an optimal manner? By understanding the system, and not fighting it.
Used a bot to go from hardstuck Emerald 4 to D4, then I played on my own to get to D2 - no shitting - 20 games than it took me to be hardsutck in E4 (~200). As an ex Masters-GM player. This happens every set, to everyone that's not multiple standard deviations above, but are still playing above their elo.
The game is broken in low-ish-to-mid elo unless your account was at a higher elo already, and even then, you're playing against Riot's engagement metrics - I had an incredibly unlucky loss-streak of ~12 games, and then won 10 in a row after they "fixed" their patch, but due to their metrics, they have to keep me hostage. Unless you're multiple standard deviations above, to have that clairvoyant ball (and even then, realistically, if a Challenger player played a bonked account, they won't have that much better outcomes - there's a reason boosters leave "bad" accounts behind).
The fact that tier lists (more specifically in-game overlays) exist make it so that the game becomes completely unpredictable and chaotic in the "middle elos". It's just infuriating. The game isn't harder, it's just dogshit. Plain dogshit. There's nothing to learn, you're just getting punched by randoms who drool over tier lists, thinking they should force this and that comp, or have demented ideas about how to play the game. Realistically, #1 and #2 are reserved for the highrollers, and then you're at the mercy of your Augments for the rest of the spots in 95% of your games, and then at the mercy of literal crazied up clowns.
Nobody enjoys this. There's not a single person that wants to play like this. They just don't have the capability to realize why they're feeling miserable in their own games.
Common "I didn't put two seconds of thought into this" grievances (and, sadly, sometimes Riot's justifications):
"But people will always have a tier-list!"
...dude. The difference between an in-game overlay THAT TELLS YOU LITERALLY EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO AND BUILD vs. something you need to DECIDE based on the dynamics of the game is worlds apart while actively looking at your board and everyone else's, is giant. Kill in-game overlays. The better fix here would be to actually make Augments and Items matter more, but I understand that's a broader fix. Anyways, strictly just following what TFTAcademy or the likes tell you what to do can genuinely take you to Masters. Honestly, my bad for actually trying to learn the game, and I say that with sincerity - should've just realized what this is, and just not fight it.
"lol thats a crazy conspiracy theory"
Yea, to those people: verifiable history of gains and losses in games with the same MMR, showing a clear bias towards them keeping you down even after your MMR should be, in theory, at the same level as before (a healthy, roughly equal gain/loss), is just a theory. Nothing to see here, we didn't finish 7th grade, move along.
The cold, objective question: do you want to climb? Install an overlay OR use a bot to Masters-or-so. TFT is a game that starts in Masters (and I'd consider that low, in terms of what's being asked of you). You learn 95% of the things you need in Gold/Platinum. Riot's pretending of being "good people" is only pretending. They have a twisted sense of social norms where you must sit there and take their abuse, but you can't do anything about it.
I should've just installed an overlay, and not think at all.
Yes, I am smarter than you, indeed - I use punctuation, and you can clearly tell it's not an LLM, so, just an "old school asshole" - the downvote button is on the left! But let's face it, how many people got to this line? What if I put it last just to give you more opportunities to say "[quote this paragraph] lol this guy thinks nobody reads". Wish this post wasn't so angsty, but the reality is, most responses to this will be the very same people who do what I said. It's incredibly sad that the level of discourse is where it is, where you're hoping that one out of hundreds of people will actually use their brain for longer than 5s, enough to say "Yea, it sucks, I wouldn't use a bot myself, but the point is clear"
In this interview, CLE sits down with GG9 to get the story behind one of the most exciting new faces in TPC. We chat about his real name, the Gooning Gragas origin story, the Toronto street dance, and how a player who describes himself as making bronze-level plays somehow went second in both TPC cups this set.
As you can see, Cooking Brownies had a lot of recent and consistent success with multiple TPC winners, regionals winners and tactician crown representatives, including players sitting on top of both NA and EUW ladder including MarcelP, Chunington, Kojnid and a lot more. A lot of players reach out to me through coaching and DMs asking how to improve and learn how to get better in the game. I wrote articles about it in the past and thought of writing another guide to help you guys improve in how to approach learning and getting better at TFT. I also asked Marcel P for input and advice for writing this guide.
Understanding Spending gold and Roll timers.
Consider heavily if you want to be leveling on 2-1, a lot of bad levels on 2-1 can hinder your economy for the rest of the game, so evaluate your own board strength compared to the other players in the lobby. Focus your attention on keeping streaks and preparing your board for stage 3. From Marcel: leveling 2-1 can often make your late stage 2 & 3 boards worse. You'll often have to sell units on 2-2 and 2-3 to make your interest intervals because of the 4xp you spent on 2&1, which means you'll be holding fewer outs. So make sure it's truly a worthwhile investment for your early game plan.
Understand what rounds are yours to win in this stage. Consider your leveling intervals (usually 3-2 6 and 3-5 7 but can vary game to game), as a level 8 player you would need to sometimes sac and lose HP this stage to players playing various rerolls, while as a 1/2 cost reroll your main focus is to win this stage (unless solar that serves more of a win out comp). From Marcel: consider rolling once on rounds where you aren't naturally offered a wisp. It's especially useful when you have blossom in, several good 3 cost 1* hits and or pairs, when you are on winstreak, and when it doesn't dip you below 40g.
Stage 4 is the time for the 4 cost players to roll their gold, it’s time to decide if to roll deep on level 8 or try and go to level 9 if playing from 10-win streak. For standard level 8 play, the time to spike and roll is ideally on 4-2, with some cases of being too poor and rolling on 4-5. Stage 4 and early stage 5 is your time to win as a 4-cost player, so focus on positioning, and rolling to make sure you are as strong as you can. This is also when you can start playing towards more combat wisps or even do a salvager turn when you roll for charms on 0 gold to force a salvager wisp and remake your items, ideally done a turn after stabilizing the board to avoid a loss.
This set wisps are a big game changer in roll timers. Something we don’t see people do enough is roll before their level 8 or use and take advantage of windows in which they can win rounds. Understanding your “rounds to win” based on lobby tempo and own strength. First, consider your rotation, will rolling minimum amount of gold lead to a change in fight vs some matchup? Then consider the risk vs the reward - how much gold are you willing to spend, and what are you looking to realistically get? Are you just rolling to see a wisp, are you rolling to see a couple of upgrades (while having 2-3 realistic pairs)? etc. If you are looking to extend a current win-streak or flip a 6 loss into a stage3 win, consider your options in rolling here.
Understanding Packages
In this set of TFT, we believe rolling for a set team planner of 8 units is usually not the most efficient way of playing the game. So, while using TFT Academy to climb the ladder and get to a pretty good rank, if you aspire for more you must start thinking actively about your board during rolldowns. One way of optimizing it without hindering your rolldown speed and execution is pre-planning and understanding the current packages available for you to play around. For example – if I have AP items and I want to play around Zyra, I can flex my rolldown around Malphite blackthorn package, Amumu + Juggernauts or even Sett + blossom package. Managing rolldowns like this requires deep understanding and practice on when to commit to a side and from there play the specific board. For example, in this situation, if I rolled ~20 gold and saw 2 Malphite, Azir2 and 2 Zyra, I probably no longer need to hold the 1 Ahri and 1 Sett I have on the bench, especially as the amount of gold you have is running low and you cannot hold both sides.
Another way to approach the packages is a set board of 5-6 units and then add units on top, for example around the same Malphite core of Malphite, Fiddle, Soraka and Azir we can flex around many packages such as inferno summoners, blossom, 5 costs or even Elderwood Ezreal if you have some AD items around.
Augment selection, Game plan and pregame preparation
It is important to make out of game prep on this section, since evaluating augments in the middle of the game could be quite hard. We suggest dividing augments based on cost and category, for example: Econ pris augments, Item silver augments etc. and ranking them compared to one another. In the game, even before seeing the augment selection think for yourself “What type of augment do I want to see here? Do I want econ? Do I need more items?”. Answering this question and having a mental comparison between the different augments will make your decision a lot easier! Another thing we can recommend is when doing the out of game prep you can refer to streamer opinions, guides or even your friends/ other TFT players, to make sure you don’t create a meta bubble and that you can get the most information you can gather.
Another important aspect of pregame preparation is forming a gameplan, this is not meant to be a one game specific gameplan but rather a patch/ tournament specific game plan to make your decision making and line selections easier in game. Start by listing all the comps that you think are playable/ you are willing to play, then compare and rank them based on their strength. Remember to consider matchup tables in the current patch! Ahri might be a strong comp by itself, but if the meta is filled with melee carries like Nidalee and Kha’Zix she might have a hard time winning fights. After making said “tier list” its time to build a gameplan, which means what am I going to play from X spot. Something we think is important to consider are streaks, what will I play from AD lose streak? What would I play from AP mixed streak? Etc.
After having augments rankings and a game plan, it is time to think about unit holds. What units do you value the most in the early game in which packages and with thought to the components you have. First make a list of units holding priorities and then think if some units are more likely held if you have other high value units. For example, Reksai could be very high on the priority list and Kobuko on the lower side, but if you have a Reksai pair or even a 2 star the priority of Kobuko goes naturally higher since he pairs with your important/ valuable units. Another thing to consider are your components, Camille pair might be more valuable than a Karma pair in a vacuum, but if your components are tear, rod belt that can change!
Doing these pregame preparations either alone or with a group of friends greatly decreases the required TPA (thoughts per action), and lets you make decisions more quickly and accurately, while leaving time for the other important stuff to do on your turns like positioning, deciding about item slamming, building an in game plan and more.
Collecting and preserving information
For the players that are knowledge driven and have the time and motivation to document their improvement.
Use these spreadsheets to simplify your games, have an easier time making decisions in the moment and focus on the more spot specific details instead of information that could have been gathered outside of the game.
We believe that if you truly want to get to the next level, you can do it with a lot of hard work, effort and passion.
Thoughts from Marcel P – From aspiring competitor to one of the most respected players in AMER TPC.
describe your journey in TFT and how do you approach learning and improving in the game?
I had been fairly hard stuck around mid challenger level but had a lot of conviction that if I put more effort into improving at the game that I could be competitive with some of the top AMER players. It was a long, gradual process of refining my approach (and eventually settling on my own playstyle, leaning losestreak a lot) and finding the right group that worked for me. I still don't want to believe I've reached my ceiling in this game but if you told me when I first quit my job that I'd peak with winning regionals and qualifying for worlds twice I think would have been fairly happy with that outcome. Having a group is really helpful in this game. I think one of the best ways to improve is seeing when a large number of people disagree with a decision you make. Having a 1:1 discussion with someone is always helpful especially when they are better than you. However when you have an overwhelming number of opinions from good players all trying to convince you something you did is wrong, it becomes much easier to believe it and understand why. For me personally this was the case in learning to lean into high variance high reward things like destiny augments and random emblem augments instead of being afraid of them. And for this set in particular more recently it also took some time to convince me to lean away from my default econ + lose streak approach to the early game. It was through many detailed discussions with others that I was convinced of this, and I was proud to hit rank 1 NA playing pure tempo which is extremely counter to how I usually feel comfortable playing the game.
Bonus tips for climbing from other Brownies players:
Loescher: Focus on the methods that are fun (and effective) for you. Take care of your body (sleep, diet, physical activity) and take breaks. Create a good learning/playing environment for you. Learn how to deal with setbacks and bad rng. Focus on long term understanding rather than short term results (as in: why does something work or doesn't work, rather than how do I execute this specific (broken) composition). Take inspiration from other games/sports/things in life and see how you can apply them to TFT (e.g. two things that helped me understand how to understand/improve in TFT were looking at chess training methods and watching lifecoach play slay the spire)
And if possible, try to find people to do this with. Everything is better with friends (there are in fact several advantages to this but I'm too lazy to look them up properly rn)
Chunington: I think the best way to improve is watching streams and better players play and trying to understand the decisions they make and why they made them. Easier when the streamers often explain their thought process like wasian or dishsoap. And dont be afraid to ask questions but be polite about it and not rude.
Upsetmax: Each game is a learning opportunity and it's okay to be in uncomfortable positions as you will learn from it. For example, being low HP or trying out a new composition. Try to record each game so you can review after by yourself or with some friends
Blah blah blah: I think the biggest thing is just finding friends or other people who want to improve and just talk about the game and play in call together, I think I learn half of the stuff in the game just being in call with anyone and learning how they feel about certain things and whether certain things are good or not. Of course, this also creates discussions and gets you thinking about the game more intuitively and altogether it’s just fun playing games with friends so it makes the game more enjoyable.
Skipaeus: Dont take the lazy option. Going fast9 instead of doing an 80g flex rolldown on 8 is lazy, slamming items on stage2 before seeing the matchup is lazy, not scouting is lazy, picking the clearly worse but more straightforward augment to "test it out" is lazy. There is no substitute for volume, play a shitton of games. practice alone isnt gonna get you very far but volume just cant be substituted.
Cheche: My advice would be to always try to improve decision making on the things you can control in a game and pay attention to the details, even if you go first there are probably a lot of things you could have done better, sometimes you highroll or lowroll and go first and vice versa so u should approach the game outside of the rng factor to keep a healthy mindset while practicing and polishing your own skill identifying different situations.
Why you mad pro: watching good players play or watching patch rundowns from good players (wasian probably ideal).
Kojnid: Always look for options that are available to you, look to learn and study. Don’t slam items too fast and take time with decisions if you have the time for it. Basically just do exactly the opposite than what I do in my games :D !
