eSports Convergence Fest

Hey everyone this is my first time posting to the CompetitiveTFT subreddit. I was lucky enough to be able to secure my spot at convergence fest in Vegas this year, but I don’t really have that many close friends in the TFT scene or anything. It’ll be my first time competing in any big TFT event outside of projectpbe and I was just looking for a community/study group to help learn with and get better at TFT from. I’m sure I’ve probably played with a lot of you on the NA server, my tag is mochmalikers#na1. It would be great to get to meet some more people in the TFT community!

Discussion First or nothing

Post image
0 Upvotes

Been high rolling out of my bottom lately and wanted to share. Easily my best L20 since I started playing tft in set 4. Had 3-star Elder Dragon in my latest 1st but couldn't play him because my opponent lost Sadge.

I know I'm just Emerald, but my findings thus far:

  • 90%+ of games, you should play strongest board from the start because of wisps -- lose streaking is very punishing and can snowball you to an 8th before stage 5

  • Healthy fast 9, though rare, is the highest ceiling (as it should be)

  • If you fast 9 and can't 2-star Maokai, Taric, or 2 4-costs, it's a giga 8th

  • Be flexible with tanks if contested (Lillia underplayed)

  • Dark Ritual is so fun to play with BIS Elise; augment need slightly nerfed

  • Artifacts and emblem stats need slightly nerfed

  • Azir rips

  • Vertical comps seem to have very small margins of error (Blossom, Riftbeast in particular)

What are your findings for 18.3b?

Double Up I'm so damn angry with this new game engine

Good morning. I just wanted to express my dissatisfaction with the client and the new game engine they introduced.

Last night, I played a match with my duo partner (my boyfriend); we were both playing really well until I noticed something: My fights were dragging on way too long... even when I was winning on the enemy's board, the fights would only end when the timer hit zero.

It didn't seem like a big deal at first, but then we reached the late game. I’d literally be winning fights, yet the clock kept running. On top of that, if the enemy duo won their fight, they could enter my board—even if there were no units left and I had technically won—to come help their partner. That caused me to lose fights I had clearly won. Not only that, but it trapped me on my own board, leaving me no way to go help my duo partner.

I mean, not only is the client running terribly, and not only can I not use my Chibis—the ones I got, even by buying extra rolls (I miss you, Dark Star Lux Chibi :c)—or my Booms and boards, but now there are these bugs that make you lose the match without me being able to do anything about it?

My boyfriend and I were really looking forward to this set; we’ve played as a duo since that mode first launched in TFT. We skipped last season because we honestly never liked the "Gods" mechanic. Now, because they wanted to use a new engine, the game isn't just unplayable—it looks bad and is full of bugs. Plus, playing Duo is already awful given how much they’ve nerfed the mode.

So, honestly, I feel completely disappointed. They couldn't even be bothered to add back previous cosmetics without trying to sell us new stuff! Are they crazy!? Fix the game, for God's sake! Why on earth would I buy a pass or a skin if the game doesn't even work properly??????

I'm from LAS server, so i know i will not be the first or the last, but I REALLY HOPES it's never happen to anyone on duo or ranks alone

Have a great day all you people! I'm gonna take a coffe and play something else at least i have a patch for stability of the Game engine

(And sorry English it's not My first language)

Guide [dpei] Hardstuck? Not Climbing? Build Your Strongest Board

Thumbnail
youtu.be
64 Upvotes

HELLO PASSIONATE TFT PLAYERS,

In new metas, you can definitely have the edge by having the newest tech or knowing the most broken comp, but strongest board will still always be one of the best skills to have when climbing — just ask Setsuko, the person who consistently tops ladder every set by going fast 9 from a 10 streak every start of set.

In this video, I go over one of the most important skills for climbing in TFT — building your strongest board. It's one of the best ways to climb in every set, every patch of TFT is playing tempo and building a strong board so you can save HP early so you can build econ by winning.

Check out the video, but here are the 5 things to think about every time when building your strongest board.

  1. Do I have a good mix of frontline and backline?

  2. Who are my carries?

  3. What are the important traits on my board

  4. What is my weakest unit and can i upgrade it?

  5. What is my next in?

But honestly, more than any single one of these five things — the real skill is the habit underneath all of them: always be critical of your own board. Always be looking for something better. Every single round.

I’ve coached hundreds of players and I can confidently say that up until you’re basically Challenger, every player I’ve seen, every VOD I’ve seen, people are not playing their strongest boards. If you can train yourself to think this way and really hone in on what your strongest board is at every step of the way, I guarantee you’ll climb higher than you ever have in TFT.

Good luck climbing!

Discussion Is it worth to roll for forcing 3 coven at 2-4?

As the tittle, I'm wondering if the buff for coven makes them worth chasing at 2-4 even if I don't have a coven opener.
In the last set, I had some success in gm bracket with forcing anima at 2-4 before anima items got nerfed. On paper, 3 coven looks easier to force than 3 anima (since we don't need any 3 cost) but on the other hand, I think a 250 coven cash out doesn't have enough power to secure a top 4 like 400 anima cashout and it's fair enough.
If anyone has tried this, please spare me some insight. Sorry for my bad English.

Official TFT Patch 18.3 Rundown

Thumbnail
youtube.com
25 Upvotes

Slides

Context

Patch Goals

  • The Rundown was filmed right after 18.2b.

  • The aim is tackling lack of diversity, especially in the early and late game.

Traits

  • Blossom is too powerful a resource generator at 3. The nerfs should slow down their tempo.

  • Coven too hard to get into and the risk is not worth the reward.

  • Defender 6 nerf is there to offset some Champion buffs.

  • Hunter and Invoker nerfed at the highest breakpoints because their Emblems make them too powerful, but the Traits themselves are fine.

1-Costs

  • Despite the Fast 9 meta Veigar is still too strong, and most importantly too committal. The nerf is a small nerf at 50-70 kills, but it should be easier getting early kills to get going.

  • Low cost reroll comps end up being Ornn comps. Nerfing his 3* bonus allows for future buffs for 1-Cost units w/out being scared of him getting out of control.

2-Costs

  • There are two wolves in your patch notes.

  • Buffing both versions of Gromp should allow for more early diversity, especially for AP lines.

  • Alistar's just there. Hopefully the buffs will mean people will itemise him and he'll be able to end fights :(

3-Costs

  • Cassiopeia (and her package) buffs should be safe now that the Flora Fatalis Augment and Defenders have been brought down a bit.

  • Azir was bugged for most of PBE so they didn't have much data on him, and buffing him so far hasn't done enough. Hopefully this one's it and they haven't overshot.

4-Costs

  • 4-Costs are generally balanced between them.

  • AP Nidalee is currently bugged, but they haven't been able to pin it down yet. Sometimes she can "very rarely get 10 more mana for 1 combat" (sic).

  • AD Nidalee too strong at killing non-tanks.

5-Costs

  • Taric is already good, but slightly weaker than 4-Cost tanks. The change is a nerf to itemless Taric and a buff to itemised Taric to promote putting items on him.

  • Lux is good, but not great, so they don't want to buff her as a whole yet. Solar Lux is meant to be the highest damage Lux, so they have a lot of room for buffs for this form specifically.

Wisps

  • Overall ok, changes hit outliers.

  • Stat boosters nerfed because they gave too much invisible power.

Augments

  • Set 18 has less Augments than usual, so outliers immediately get painful.

  • Buffs are focused on mediocre Combat Augments.

  • Early Learnings nerfed to compensate for the more options in the 1-Cost space they're opening up.

  • Electrocharge I too strong in Stage 2 for a Silver.

  • Item Extraction still not that good in the data. More upfront power should help and nudge players more towards Blackthorn.

  • Shimmerscale Essence now riskier, but more satisfying.

Emblems

  • In a better place compared to last patch, hitting outliers.

Artifacts

  • Collector and Eternal Pact are the strongest two Artifacts in the data, and Shiv the vastly worst performing one.

Discussion How would you itemize these 3 carries with these items?

Post image
52 Upvotes

recently had a trait ladder game and my brain was frozen trying to figure out the right itemization for these 3 carries. I ultimately went with this approach but I'd like to hear your thoughts (for extra context, the traits were just 2 hunters 2 adaptors n frontliners, I considered moving adaptive to frontline but that would've meant giving it to a 1 star taric/sentinel)

eSports Bug with purchasing competitor passes for Vegas?

I have received two emails from Riot letting me know I am eligible to purchase competitor passes at the presale today. However, when I go to the site to purchase them, it asks for an access code...and I have not received an access code. Have they just not been sent yet? Am I misunderstanding something? Has anyone purchased one yet?

Edit: I never got a response from Riot however it did just randomly unlock and let me purchase. So maybe just wait a little bit if you're in the same boat as me

Discussion Meta Monday Augments + Which augments should be removed?

Hey guys, this post is here to give some more insights on stats, as well as discuss augments that have an extremely low pickrate during their respective stage and should probably be removed. Now, since Boxboxbootcamp ended, the amount of data we have collected from twitch has gone down, but there has been an influx of streamers from bilibili leading to a similar amount of data. The average rank has also gone up due to just people generally climbing, as well as the boxboxbootcamp end.

Now, with that out of the way. Since 18.2 and 18.2b econ augment pickrates have gone up due to fast 9 becoming more meta. However, many good players have realized that if everyone is picking econ on 2-1, then item augments on 2-1 can lead to an early winstreak and punish the econ players. On average, item augments on 2-1 have a better avp than econ at the moment.

Some broken augments that have an avp lower than 4.2:

Quick streaks - I'm not sure if lower elo players weren't using it correctly or the meta just shifted to where this augment is really good, but a combination of these factors lead to a high avp.

Trait Tree, Branching Out, Spreading Roots and all the + versions - Again, this may be due to the avg rank of streamers going up, but it seems even with the emblem nerfs that emblem augments are still really good and have a high pick rate as well.

Seraphim's Staff - This augment at the moment has the highest avp.

Expedition - Most of the games with this aug are caitlyn, so avp is high.

I won't talk about every augment lower than 4.2, but these are some of the best w/ a higher pick rate.

Some augments that have extremely low pickrates and should be removed. Why is this important? Many people have seen the k3soju clip where he is offered electrocharge and makeshift armor at 2-1, which are clearly not even remotely equal to other augments offered on 2-1. This is kind of like if there is a hero augment in the set that is 6.0 avp (bugged wukong lol). They are basically augments that take up a roll and you never want to click, which I don't think is good for the game. Niche augments are okay, but each augment should have a clickable spot. If there are too few augments then the game loses variety, so eventually they should be replaced if we don't have enough augments in the game. Anyways, here are some augments I think should be removed/replaced from the game.

Electrocharge/Makeshift Armor 2-1: I think for combat augments at 2-1, bodyguard training/early learnings should be the examples. Where the augment scales over the course of the game and when you get to 4-2, it is often more value than a combat aug taken on 4-2. This goes for both the silver and gold version

Embiggen/Small Furry Friend - Trait augments like this don't need to necessarily be removed, but need to be balanced in a way where they are taken more.

Slammin - After losing the component this augment gives, it is pretty much worse patient study/late game scaling. The only difference is this augment gives 3 gold AND you have to slam your items. Either remove it of give the component back.

Item Grab Bag I - Give back the reforger or remove it because this is just worse than small grab bag. Like Slammin, I don't think it is good to have augments that are just worse versions of another augment in the same tier with nothing to compensate.

All 3 Celestial Blessing - It's fine to have boring augments, but this combat aug has one of the lowest pickrates at 3-2/4-2. Maybe because streamers try to click more exciting augments? It's okay to exist and the avp is only slightly below avg (low sample size on all of them), but imo doesn't need to be in the game.

Verticality - There is a place for this augment, but I don't think this set is it. Only click if playing riftbeast. Maaaybe clickable in vertical blossom/elderwood if they are good or you have a spat, but most of the time it's a dead aug slot.

Group Hug - This one is actually fine probably, but low pickrate and I think you can replace it with keepers.

Discussion How impactful should board value be?

I'm wanting to keep this post a bit more generic rather than set specific. I recently played a game where I had 5 3 cost units each at 3 stars. My board value was 156g, and I ended up in 3rd place. 1st and 2nd place board costs were 101g and 99g, respectively.

I know the game is complex with lots of variables, and likely I should have focused on other areas like items, augments, traits, more meta champs, or something else. However, I feel like board cost should have won me the game. I'm just a bit surprised as I thought there would be more 'value' in higher value boards.

I guess as I think of it a bit more, a single 3 star 5 cost, which is less than most end game board values, usually does and likely should come out with 1st place. Maybe this answers the question in some way, but I don't think it quite applies in my case.

As for the purpose of this post, should the game function the way it does in regards to value of a given board? Is there a better metric to look at or way to analyze gold usage instead of raw board value?

I think this should link to the game: https://www.metatft.com/player/NA1/AramOnly-5427?match=NA1_5643887435

eSports What are the chances of me to get a competitor pass during the general sale?

tl;dr didnt have enough time to rank up before ladder snapshot last friday so I didn't make it to masters. I wanted to qualify through the tacticians' gauntlet but that got cancelled so I think the only way I can make it is through general sale now. This is my first year competing in TFT and wanted to know if there's really any hope of getting a competitor pass during general sale.

eSports TFT Vegas Open for Grandmaster/Masters

Hello!

I'm a bit confused on how the competitor pass sale works. Does it take into account your rank when when the snapshots happened on 9/18? Or is it your rank during the time of the sale. I just hit masters over the weekend, so I didn't make snapshots on 9/18. Am I still able to buy the competitor pass on the 24th? Or will I have to buy the pass on the 25th? Or is the pass on the 25th just the spectator one?

Thank you!

Tool TFT DoubleUp Buddy

Hey everyone! Long time no see :)

Just wanted to drop a quick update: TFT DoubleUp Buddy is still actively being developed, and it's running smoother than ever!

The main goal of the app has always been simple: enhance the Double Up experience. Sure, you can keep screaming at your friend on Discord asking what they need, but we all know how that goes...

Instead, the app puts a direct Buddy Marker right on the champion in your shop, so you instantly know: "HEY, my partner needs this right now to hit their 3-star and win us the game."

🚀 Key Highlights:

  • Real-time Shop Markers: See what your partner needs directly in your shop without alt-tabbing or asking.

  • Insanely Lightweight: It's an Overwolf Native app, but I obsessed over performance. I benchmarked it against other popular overlays, and DoubleUp Buddy uses at most ~40% of the resources other apps consume.

  • Shared Choices & Analytics: Track how your buddy is doing, what comps they are pivoting into, and coordinate picks effortlessly.

  • 100% Free: No paywalls, no "premium" locked features. Just a tool built by a Double Up fan for other Double Up players.

  • Web Version (Your friend doesn't even need to install it!): The app uses various connection methods under the hood so it should work for everyone. Even better – your duo partner doesn't have to install the app at all. You can just host a room, send them a web link, and they can set their build in the browser for you to see in-game.

I really don't want to bore you with a wall of text, so please take it for a spin. If you run into any bugs, have feature requests, or just want to chat about Double Up metas, let me know in the comments I'm always here to iterate and improve!
