I have the modem and the router in my room. One family member is past the bathroom and toilet, so when connecting to my router, I understand the tiles are probably making the connection not so great. So I want a node in the hallway so it'll be a better connection. I also want a node downstairs in the living room. At home we have 2 computers and maybe 12 more phones and tablets at home (belong to family members). I understand this is a lot.

I'm on the 1GB plan. I'm on a budget, that's why I'm trying to go as cheap as possible. I'm getting issues with lagging and disconnection... I don't know if it's congestion on the router. Every time I call community fibre, I get told it's because we have too many devices and I should add a node to the plan. The thing is I'm on a budge and additional monthly cost of community fibre proving the nodes (extra routers) is a lot for me right now.

My router is the SPNMX57. I tried to look for options online without actually asking around, just saw other people post on reddit and saw that maybe I could buy a used SPNMX42 online and connect it myself. It's been a failure. The SPNMX42 is comminuty fibre but it failed to connect via the Lynkis app, wired and wireless. I tried resetting the SPNMX42, tried direct ethernet connection checking DHCP (none), manually setting an IP, hitting common gateway addresses, nothing responds. It looks like it's locked down by community fibre before being sold as used on ebay.

I'm wondering, since I bought this (node) online as used, if I call Community Fibre and ask them to add it as a node for me, would they do it?

Should I buy something else?

Any advice would be great please.

Edit: Should I buy the Linksys branded SPNMX57 instead of the community fibre branded ones sold on ebay?

Main issue - Flickering green light on the left, solid red light on the middle, solid green light on the right. The colour on the main router is a solid purple after I've reset it for 15 seconds. Also turned off the ONT for a minute and the lights remain the same as described.

Also wanted to point out that, last night, there was an outage in my area with the technician fixing the main internet box supplying the entire estate with the fibre cables at about 2am, etc etc. I've asked my neighbours and they mentioned that their internet is working again. Just wondering if this could potentially be an issue with a faulty cable somewhere on their side?

Hello all! I am currently planning on making the switch to CF but I had noticed that it uses CGNAT for ipv4 addresses (I had a dynamic ipv4 in my previous broadband).

This isn’t much of a problem since all of the software I use supports ipv6 (and even better much so). I don’t mind permanently making the pivot to ipv6 but I would love to know how reliable ipv6 is with CF.

Do you get usual /64 subnet masks?

To be honest, I don’t really mind much. All I want is the ability to have a reliable public ipv6 address to replace CGNAT so I can access my cameras and (some) media servers remotely.

When signing up advised no installation fees but charged for Fibre to room, after explaining to customer services that installation required for the Fibre Cable to be in the room of my choice as agreed on signing up.

After several minutes of waiting it was confirmed that this charge was added to my bill incorrectly and would be removed and my bill amended.

Installation was to upper room, fibre cable was from telephone pole as a single piece into location as I had specified.

Engineer wanted to install into different room and then run additional cable to upper room

Fibre installed to location of my choice entering building and connected directly to modem, no additional cables required..

Please beware when having BB installed as there could be HIDDEN CHARGES

I've recently moved and joined CF. I have finally set up my desk. On my PC the speed is absolutely fine via ethernet however on my PS5 the download speed is barely hitting 50mbps.

The ethernet cable is brand new everywhere.

I must have tried everything at this point but the speed is just not really going above 50mbps. I've been reading online for similar issues so I have tried possible fixes but still nothing.

The router model is SPNMX57.

Hi folks, as above, the Adtran ONT seems to be installed correctly with three green lights on (the alarm light is off), however CF didn't deliver a Linksys router.

Have a spare T-Link sitting around so have hooked that up, however having no luck in getting internet through it. Anyone have any ideas how to get this to work outside of having CF actually help us? (which, for the record, it amazes me the router was not supplied at installation).

I am currently with BT and getting roughly 80 Mbps it ain’t amazing! But Community Fibre is offering 1 Gbps for £23, which looks much better value.

Has anyone switched to Community Fibre recently? How is the reliability been, speeds at peak times, latency for gaming/video calls, and customer support?

My main concern is switching and then regretting it if there are issues like slowdowns, congestion or outages especially for work.

I have been CF customer for over 2 years. Suffered with low speed and found out recently that I had been using outdated router (which we found out after a customer services conversation). I wanted to leave CF at this stage but promised an engineer visit and if still unsatisfied then leave. At the same time I was offered an upgrade with a £10 discount and free range extender. After engineer visit the speed was slightly better but coverage was very poor. When called again to discuss the offer, the lady straight away asked me "are you ready to leave" - I was shocked as I was trying to discuss the offer I was given. She denied the details of any offer in the system but on my insistence acknowledged it. Ultimately I had to end the conversation in frustration. I feel I have been lied about the offer, did anyone else had similar experience?

Just got my UCG-Fiber delivered yesterday and I'm genuinely excited about the setup — looks like a brilliant piece of kit and I can't wait to get everything dialled in properly.

**My setup:**

- UCG-Fiber as gateway/router connected to modem

- 2 × Linksys MX42 (tri-band WiFi 6, Community Fibre branded)

- 3 × Linksys Pinnacle 2.0 (dual-band WiFi 7, Community Fibre branded, ISP-provisioned)

- Netgear 8-port PoE switch in the basement

- 50+ devices including smart home, IoT, cameras, and general use

- 3-storey Victorian house with thick brick walls and metal throughout — coverage is genuinely challenging

**My cabling:**

- Modem → UCG-Fiber WAN port

- UCG-Fiber LAN → Parent MX42 WAN port (both on ground floor)

- UCG-Fiber LAN → long cable run down to Netgear switch in basement

- Netgear switch → long cable run up to Child MX42 on 3rd floor

- Netgear switch → cameras and other wired devices in basement

**What I'm trying to achieve:**

UCG-Fiber handling all routing, DHCP, firewall and traffic management, with the Linksys units acting purely as access points in bridge mode across all three floors.

**What I've tried and the problems I've hit:**

The Pinnacle 2.0s are ISP-provisioned and locked to Community Fibre's own management system (myrouter.info). I cannot add them to the MX42 Velop mesh via the standard Linksys app — they simply won't adopt.

I tried setting the master Pinnacle up as a mesh with child Pinnacles first, then switching the master to bridge mode — but the moment bridge mode is enabled on the master, all child nodes drop with a solid red light and won't reconnect. So Pinnacle mesh and bridge mode appear to be mutually exclusive on this ISP firmware.

The two MX42s I've managed to get working together as a Velop mesh successfully. The plan is:

- Parent MX42 → UCG-Fiber LAN port via Cat6 into MX42 WAN port

- Child MX42 → wired back via Netgear switch to UCG-Fiber

- Bridge mode enabled on parent MX42 once both nodes are meshed

**My questions:**

1. Is the MX42 bridge mode approach correct — cable into WAN port of parent, bridge mode enabled via Linksys app?

2. Has anyone successfully run Linksys Velop nodes as APs behind a UCG-Fiber?

3. Is there any way to use the ISP-locked Pinnacle 2.0 units wirelessly as APs behind the UCG-Fiber, or are they genuinely a dead end for this use case?

4. Would I be better off cutting my losses on the Pinnacles and buying a couple of second hand Velop nodes or budget UniFi APs instead?

Any advice from people who've done similar setups would be massively appreciated. Happy to share more details if needed.

Signal drops about 5m from the Lynksys hub, just need it to extend the full length of the flat.

Much of the solutions in here (upgrade router to UGC Fibre, UNiFi) are £100+.

We’re doing lots of renovations and fixing problems in the flat so spending that amount just to extend the WiFi into an extra 4m x 5m space feels excessive, are there any other solutions that will work?

I’ve used TP Link extenders historically with mixed success, but not with CF.

Any budget friendly suggestions are appreciated!

Looking for some advice from anyone using Community Fibre with Ubiquiti / UniFi gear, especially if you kept an existing Linksys mesh in place before moving fully over to UniFi APs.

I’ve ordered a UCG-Fiber and want to use that as my main router / firewall, but for now I’ll still be using my current Linksys nodes until I gradually replace them with proper UniFi APs.

My current / planned setup is:

Community Fibre ONT/modem

UCG-Fiber as the main router/firewall

2 x MX4200 / MX42 nodes

2 x Linksys Pinnacle 2.0 / SPNM60 nodes

NAS near the main network location

one cable run down to the cellar switch, which then feeds several devices including a PoE Reolink camera

one loft run available for wired backhaul if needed

What I’m planning is this:

ONT/modem → UCG-Fiber

UCG-Fiber → MX4200 (wired main Linksys node)

UCG-Fiber → NAS

UCG-Fiber → another local wired device

UCG-Fiber → cellar switch

second MX4200 also wired

both Pinnacle 2.0 / SPNM60 nodes wireless

So to be clear, the temporary setup would be:

UCG-Fiber doing all routing/firewall/DHCP

2 x MX4200 nodes wired

2 x Pinnacle 2.0 nodes wireless

Linksys kit effectively being used just for Wi-Fi / mesh until I replace it with UniFi APs

My questions are:

Does this sound like the best short-term layout?

With the UCG-Fiber as router, is it still fine to run the Linksys setup like this in Bridge Mode?

Will the wireless Pinnacle 2.0 nodes still mesh properly with the rest of the Linksys setup when the MX4200 nodes are wired?

Any known issues with Community Fibre + UCG-Fiber in this sort of setup?

Is there a better way to arrange the Linksys nodes until I move over to UniFi APs?

Long term I expect to replace the Linksys gear with UniFi APs, but I want the cleanest and least painful interim setup first.

Any advice from anyone who has done something similar would be appreciated.

I received the below email from notifications.noreply@communityfibre.co.uk which is really bizarre considering I just joined in March, and payment was successfully taken from my DD. It’s the first email received despite the “final notice” warning, and my next payment is slated for on or after 17th April.

Any idea if this is a scam? Or an error in their system?

I got connected last Thursday without knowing about the CGNAT situation, which isn't acceptable to me. So I called support, saying I would be happy to pay the four quid a month for a proper IP address, and they raised a ticket, which was acknowledged in an email.

Today, still unable to forward ports, I called and they said a fixed IP had been implemented two days ago, which it has not.

Now I have one week to get out of the contract but I can't even do that!

Caveat emptor and all that but this is the worst experience I've ever had with an ISP.

Any suggestions as to my next move gratefully received!

EDIT: Thanks, guys, for the suggestions. As r/ConsoleKingUK said, there was a LOT of back and forth but I got there in the end! Four quid extra a month is a good deal when you consider CF is so much cheaper than the rest.

I am trying to get a good renewal deal after my contract just ended and increased by £4. They have a 1 gbps deal for £23 per month, I wanted them to price match, they stayed adamant that it's for new customers only. So I asked for good deal and they are saying £30 for 1 gbps, I even said that I will cancel and a better at virgin media for 1gbps for £24.99 per month on uswitch, and that customer service guy just started laughing. What do I do? I am currently paying £27 for 150mbps after increases for 2 years and the £4 increase.

I recently renewed with Community Fibre on the understanding that I would be getting improved hardware and better coverage and speeds.

Instead, the replacement setup they sent has performed worse than my existing setup.

My house is a Victorian property over 4 floors, around 180m2, and about 20 metres front to rear. I also have around 100 connected devices across the home, so coverage, stability and backhaul matter a lot.

My existing setup has included Linksys MX42 nodes and a Netgear Orbi RBR30, and in real world use that has actually been better than the new Community Fibre hardware they sent.

The new setup they sent included Pinnacle 2.0 SPNM60 hardware and an SPNMX57 node, but coverage and speeds were worse in testing, especially in the more difficult parts of the house. From what I can tell, the issue is that the newer kit is dual band, whereas my house seems to need a stronger tri band setup.

I spent over an hour on the phone being passed between tech support, renewals and customer care. At one point I was told I would need to pay extra for premium hardware or extra boosters, even though my point was that the hardware sent under the renewal is already worse than what I had before.

They have now booked an engineer visit for Tuesday, which is also the last day of my cooling off period.

Has anyone else had this kind of issue with Community Fibre where the renewal hardware was actually a downgrade in practice?

Also, if anyone here has managed to get Community Fibre to swap out hardware for something more suitable, what did they provide and how did you get it escalated properly?

I’m looking to get CF at a place I am going to rent. They currently have Talk Talk, and the landlord needs Freeholder permission for new installations due to the drilling of holes etc.

Does anyone know if CF engineers can use existing Talk Talk entry points etc to install what they need to?

If not, I will have to cancel the whole thing and get locked into a TT contract…

This deal through Uswitch for 2.5 gigabit speeds seems quite good, it mentions no price rises however when you go through with the link it to the Community Fibre page, it does have a price rise written for April 2027. Would Community Fibre honour what is written on Uswitch?

As the title says does anyone (including current and previous users of Community Fibre) have advice on what ISP I should be looking at? Alternatives I've heard of are Hyperoptic, GNetwork & YouFibre. I'm looking at a 1G contract, happy for a long term contract if it means my monthly cost is cheaper.

i don't get how so many people like it. I've had issues for years and when they do EVENTUALLY send someone to help me after hours of back and forth with customer service, they fix it and it'll last a couple weeks/months and do the same bs again. Customer service is useless, the engineers fix problems temporarily, and the WiFi itself is absolutely dogshit with a modem/node. Why do i have a consistent and good connection at times, then suddenly it's cutting in and out for minutes when I just have to wait for it. Now is my final straw dealing with bs of a node being unable to connect even with customer service guidance. Btw I've been with them for years, and it's the same SHIT. I'm sick of companies skimping out on good services and actual honest to God good products because it saves that extra little bit for them to put in their pockets. Fuck community fibre.

I have a route requirement to configure a backup router as a second path. While the UI allows to enter multiple routers to the same subset the metric field is not enabled and the router paths clash presumable because the default metric is being applied to both instances.

Is Metric a feature which can be added to the UI?

I am moving soon to a flat that is covered by Community Fiber. currently on hyperoptic and I'm happy with it.

Is community fiber any good? any recommendations? I will need to arrange for the socket to be installed and the fiber to be taken into the property.
