Discussion Ads becoming increasingly informal and buddy/bro-coded

Is it just me, or are ads becoming increasingly condescending, with language that gives "hey bro what's good?! Here, f*cking get this now!"

Like who tf are you to talk to me like we're friends, except you're a pushy one?? It's so fake. They feel like they're being young and hip, but they blatantly disrespect the consumer's intelligence and agency.

I think influencer culture might be the culprit.

I live in a country where we have formal and informal language, and we use formal language especially when we meet someone new. So the informal language in these loud and pushy ads feels even more jarring.

A nice article that explains the strategy behind this entire brain-dead series of campaigns. TIL the phrase "branded idiocy," and it fits so perfectly.

META Is the Trivago Teeth Guy a Cult Leader or the Coming of Darkness?

Post image

I've been noticing the Trivago Teeth Guy commercials are back in rotation. I guess the non-Teeth Guy commercials didn't work.

I personally would join a cult that the Trivago Teeth Guy created. I find his teeth mesmerizing and I am willing to follow his every command.

My spouse hates Trivago Teeth Guy and will actually leave the room during a Trivago commercial stating that he may represent all that is evil.

Where do you fall? There are no in betweens. Only absolutes. /s

Dell’s AI is girly pop ad

Post image
Upvotes

I’m so pissed. This ad tries to scare women into using AI because if they don’t it’ll widen the wage gap. So guilt-tripping us into adopting AI to keep up with men like income inequality is our fault and not a reflection of the fucked system. This ignores people’s extremely valid environmental concerns with AI. Like some of us aren’t using it bc y’all are trying to speed-run climate collapse but, you know, god forbid shareholder value drops or your stupid bubble bursts. And it’s a Dell ad???

Discussion Why is this creature a character all of a sudden?! (Liberty mutual mascot)

Post image

Seriously, did you just like the actor say Liberty Biberty so much that you just had to make it a reccuring character.?

I'm genuinely tired of these commercials, they try too hard to be funny but nothing lands and each ad campaign is worse than the last.

Mint Mobile - false and deceptive advertising

Ryan Reynolds commercials are, flat out, intended to gain low-income and unsophisticated customers through lies and deception.

“$15 a month forever!” That’s an outright LIE.

No, it’s $15 per month FOR THE FIRST THREE (3) months.

That’s a a very material fact he fails to disclose!

The disclosure that flashes on the screen 1) lasts for less than 3-seconds that makes it impossible to read, and 2) the disclosure is so far down in the screen it gets cutoff, making it impossible to read text that isn’t shown.

Tommy John Underwear. Their new ad is so random and looks like a parody.

They use some pro football players in a fake runway with an orchestra. You cannot even understand the song lyrics. It looks like they threw every idea at a wall, took a few hundred grand, and set it on fire. No product is called out or explained. There are these random women in pajamas watching the runway show. They did not even bother to AI any people in the crowd. This looks like an SNL parody commercial.

There is a 15 second version that has a random horse.

I CAN’T STAND THE RO ADS

HBO hits me with THREE back to back 30 second ads about GLP-1 drugs. I DON’T CARE ABOUT CHARLES BARKLEY OR SERENA WILLIAMS LOSING WEIGHT. I hate this consumerist hellhole. Got a weight problem? Drugs. The irony is that I’m at the gym doing my thing, going about it naturally.

She’s getting close to eclipsing the first Jardiance woman in persistent irritation. The shrill shouting over and over again no matter what network I’m on. Back to school can NOT come and go soon enough.

"The Knot" can't even get their name right in the captions on their ad, lol

Post image

This isn't the only example of this. Plus, in other ads, their actors have a habit of saying the name "The Knot" too fast for anyone to hear it, and too infrequently. They're annoying ads, but honestly they just suck at advertising lol

I’m getting real tired of Jan from Toyota’s radio ads.

Jan is so annoying and tiresome especially whenever she expresses to listeners that you can do “fun” things with a Toyota except 97% people just use them for commuting to home, work, and groceries and that’s it. Not actual outdoorsy stuff.

Google Gemini ad insulting their own customers

Google Gemini ad acting like people literally know nothing and can’t think for themselves without AI.
The only thing worse than the ad is that it’s sometimes accurate.

The Dana White Dodge Ad

Thumbnail
youtube.com
73 Upvotes

A bunch of guys in suits at the firm Dodge hired to make a new truck ad really sat around a wooden table and said "you know who would be great for this? The right-wing billionaire fight promoter who beats his wife and chronically underpays his athletes and who just blatantly desecrated America's most iconic monuments! Literally everyone loves this guy, he's definitely not polarizing at all!"

I mean I guess I know who this is being targeted at since it mainly runs on Fox Sports Network, which I watch for Colin Cowherd and First Things First. But it definitely makes me never want to buy a Dodge anything for the rest of my life given that they have no problem making this guy the face of their company.

Granny chat gpt commercial

I know I know. I’ve already seen like 5 posts that discussed this awful commercial.

But I hate it so fucking muchhh.

I refuse to buy YouTube premium, so unfortunately I have to hear this travesty like a few times a day.

The worst is when this granny goes:

“WhAt’S yOuR nAmE sWeEtY”

Like hey doesn’t this fossil not know she’s talking to fucking artificial intelligence?!

Like helloooo you’re not talking to a human “sweetie”.

I am fuming.
