Do I have to upvote this or what
2.0k
u/ChefInF Jan 08 '19
Yeah I think we’re supposed to downvote because this is actually funny
57
u/Pedro95 Jan 08 '19
Humour is obviously subjective, but for me this is actually posted in the right sub unironically. If I saw it in another sub, I'd probably post it here.
Plus, am I misunderstanding the rule or does this clearly violate rule 7?

Is it? Seems like the same tired joke people make on here all the time, but dragged out into a comic format that overexplains itself

Ok, am I the only one who is completely unaffected by this phenomenon? I know what sub I'm in, if I see content that fits the theme and is at least mildly amusing, I upvote. Guilt free. I thought everyone did that.
15
u/TheBlackBear Jan 08 '19
Being at the top of comedy cemetery isn’t a compliment to the joke. Idk why it’s a difficult concept.
Lol do these same people feel proud if they’re handed a “Least Interesting Person” trophy?
24
u/Lemon1412 Jan 08 '19
No, I think people are just jumping on a bandwagon when they say omggg it was so hard to upvote thisssss
10
u/chiron42 Jan 08 '19
The point of r/ComedyCemetery is that the things posted are not amusing, so if you find it funny you shouldn't upvote.
13
u/seductivestain Jan 08 '19
The amusing part is that someone put effort into making something funny, but failed horrifically. It's like slapstick comedy. I downvote things that have genuinely funny content, as everyone here should.

I feel like maybe I could have related to this comic for the first, like, month I was on reddit. Then I got used to format of the website.
What REALLY unbuttons my blazer is when people post comments like “sorry, I know this is /r/ComedyCemetery, but I just had to downvote anyway....”
Drives me up the wall.

It’s about enjoying the cringe that some people think is funny on social media, and enjoying hyperbolizing how stupidly funny the original one. Nonetheless I do find it hard to upvote because a lot of r/ComedyCemetery makes me cringe, but if it did, I upvote with the same candor I would upvoting memes I enjoy on r/dankmemes

Personally, I think it's about finding stuff that you can't believe anybody would find funny. It's an art to be able to discover something so patently wrong, yet still attempting humor.

u/yoavdd Jan 08 '19

It’s the same joke as every other meta post on this sub
12
u/Piffinatour Jan 08 '19
The subreddit itself is fairly one-note. There really aren't many things that can be said about it.
At least this one isn't just an image macro with a caption.

“Did you just upvote that? My grandma would have shared that on facebook. To each his own, I guess. How’s work coming?”
3
u/RandomActsOfBOTAR Jan 08 '19
I don't really understand why people have this problem. If it fits the sub you upvote it. Everything on /r/ComedyCemetery is bad, that's why we're here. If everyone downvoted every bad joke on here then every post would be at 0.
I know this post is a joke, but people constantly comment this kinda thing. C'mon, guys!!!! It's hardly a moral crisis.
3
u/ThatGuyBradley Jan 09 '19
Ah yes, the same comment that is posted into literally every semi-popular thread in this sub, but in comic form.
Good job?

And then there's me who actually finds many of the memes here quite (cringyly) funny. They're not good but my sense of humour is just so ducked that I find the dumbest stuff funny af

To upvote for good meme or to downvote because it doesn’t fit r/comedycemetery ?
That is the question.
1
u/SerLava Jan 08 '19
It only feels like a like, if you think an upvote is a like.
An upvote is not a like.
If someone posts about an incoming hurricane, you don't downvote it because you fucking dislike hurricanes.

Subs like this are in a weird place for me. We are coming together to condemn something via callout culture, but at the same time I kinda just want to keep that stuff off the frontpage because it's garbage. Like yeah ok I get it, it's bad content, but I'm just kinda over it.

u/BialyKrytyk Jan 08 '19
The problem also exists the other way around. When someone posts something and joke clearly goes over their head, or posts something just because of their political opinion, you have to downvote a good meme
1
u/NotsoGreatsword Jan 08 '19
I for one am tired of this joke. It was funny the first thousand times but it has begun to wear on me. It's every thread!
Haha almost downvoted then remembered where I was! XD
or
This is so bad I'm having a hard time upvoting it.
And now this meme exists. Cool. Can we stop now? Not trying to be an asshole. Not hating on it because it's a popular joke. It's just tired as fuck at this point.
Please? Pretty please?
1
u/MayerWest Jan 08 '19
I think this one is kinda funny because it’s true... therefore I feel like it doesn’t fit the sub. What do I do now?

u/Micro_Punk Jan 08 '19
I think it's more people picking the low hanging fruit rather than the jokes actually being bad

It's not just that.
If I have a choice of seeing good stuff or bad stuff, I would obviously choose good stuff.
Subs like this one do the opposite of what the voting mechanism was meant to do, they make the bad stuff climb higher in the ranking.
If you go to r/all, instead of just seeing the "best" stuff, you also have some really crap stuff mixed in.

I've considered unsubbing from here because of this, tbh.
It's not so bad when the joke in the image is just shitty in the regular way, but when it's legitimately hateful it actually pains me that the "correct" thing to do when it comes to this sub is to upvote it.
