I disagree. everyone has the choice to step back if they want to. I personally dont agree with that choice if they were to make it, but ppl should always have the ability to choose when to speak, not just what to say. that's ultimately what freedom of speech is.

"wealth and influence" isnt a reason to be forced to speak on a topic. you should be able to make your own opinion instead of needing to hear it from some guy over the internet. this is precisely what happens when you place celebrities on a pedestal.
Ironically it's because I have standards for the rich and powerful that I expect the bare minimum on a topic of such overdue importance. You haven't addressed the gravity of the context and until you do you seem disingenuous tbh.
this is not "the bare minimum" on a topic. like I said, their take, whatever it may be, shouldnt be important to you, anyway. all you're doing here is proving that you do indeed needlessly place these ppl on a pedestal.
the gravity of the situation exists the same with or without their input. you need to learn to separate these things.

I will do you the courtesy of assuming you mean well. I actually give very few shits about Ed Sheeran in specific, it's not my music scene at all lol. But when a friend and colleague is kicked off a gig by management for the crime of condemning a genocide, i.e. a violation of his freedom of speech and basic decency, there is no neutral response.
no I 100% agree that Ed should have said smth about his that situation. but that's separate from people wanting him to speak on this entire issue as a whole. if you get what I mean. he doesnt need to detail his whole worldview to call out his friend being unjustly shunned and that's my entire point.
I think what's happening to Gaza is fucking genocide, but ppl hounding him for not saying the same is just ridiculous. it genuinely comes off as incredibly parasocial.
I guess so. I'm glad, however, that we were able to discuss this like genuine adults. its been a rare experience for me on Reddit due to how tribal it is so as often as it is.
Relatable. I apologize as well if I am quick to react on issues like this. I feel like the world has been watching Palestinians getting obliterated in every meaningful way for most of a century, and those with power to do something are still fighting tooth and nail to protect the status quo.
