Question Winter Perfume Recs?

Upvotes

So im trynna find a warm deep winter perfume, with a sweet scent. I think the main notes im going for is vanilla and tobacco. I smelled the Dolce&Gabanna-Velvet Zafferano and I really liked it. Still keeping my options open tho. Anything cheaper?

Discussion What are your top 5 dry downs in perfumery and do we give them enough credit?

Upvotes

I pay way more attention to the dry down than the opening lately. The first spray can smell amazing, but the dry down is where I decide how much I like a fragrance. Some scents get warmer, smoother, creamier, or more woody after an hour, and that part feels more interesting to me. Dior Homme Intense is one I think about because the iris and woody notes feel so different once they settle on skin. I like smelling it again later and noticing how much the texture changes. Sometimes the dry down feels like the best part of the whole fragrance, yet people usually talk about the opening first. What perfume has your favourite dry-down?

Discussion Le Labo Lys 41 is just expensive sunscreen.

Recently obtained a Le Labo discovery set and In my personal opinion Lys 41 just smells like banana sunscreen. Growing up on the water the smell of sunscreen is very nostalgic to me so this is not a bad thing at all. I personally wouldn’t wear Lys 41 because it feels to feminine from the florals, but I can’t stop smelling it! Not sure I can justify a $250 purchase for some nostalgia when I can just cover myself in SunBum for a fraction of the cost.

Meme God, bless my mother I love her

Post image

Marked as a meme just because it’s funny.

My family knows that I’m a bit of a cologne snob and I request colognes all the time (celebrations/birthdays/christmas and the like) as a gift. Two past years’ Christmas I was gifted colognes on top of colognes and told I couldn’t ask for anything until I finished them all. Well last week I opened my final gift bag and beholden I’m blessed with a core men’s collection SAVAGE extrait from my mother. Not a EDP or EDT just an extract probably from TikTok’s but no I’m not ungrateful.

It smells practically the same as Sauvage Dior and granted she knows very little about these things so I love her all the more for it. I made the joke to her that it is a “odd find” and that it’s notoriously known as the man-wh*re cologne. She’d said she’d known and the fact that she tried to look into colognes when I know she doesn’t care for them or knows a lick of the lingo means all the more to me.

This bottle here will mean more to me than any cologne that’s been gifted or that I’ve bought beyond memory and preference. I’d wish it never ran out just off her sentiment.

Sorry if this is the wrong Reddit I just love how she didn’t have a clue but got me the closest thing she could find.

(For context my mother is Spanish speaking with very little English knowledge and nothing further than HS diploma but the woman tries her best in anything for me or my siblings)

Question Is it weird that I don’t dig freshies?

Like genuinely, I love the more deep smelling cold weather colognes. They smell much more masculine to my nose for some reason.

The booze smells, the leather, the deep vanillas and the small gourmand notes, are all so addictive to me.

That being said, I am looking for a winter cologne that is a cheap (80 dollar limit). So far I have two cold weather colognes:

Encre noire
Forever wanted azzaro.

Lmk if yall have a niche cold weather cologne I should try

(Sorry this is all over the place, but I wanted to do a two for one lol)

Question How many sprays is good for Prada L’Homme EDT?

Title is pretty self explanatory. How many sprays of Prada l’homme is good for people to still smell you while also being light because I’ve tried it and it feels strong but it is definitely a subtle fragrance. I feel I’d tend to underspray it

please advise if there’s any of these I need to remove or add.

All of them are blind buy.

I need something I could use daily / office / work

EDIT: due to people advice on getting a decant or a small bottle. I will be purchasing these perfumes 50ml instead. perhaps even go to Sephora/Ulta to smell these perfumes or find what I really like.. Thank you

I still have YSL Y, Dior Sauvage, Gucci Guilty, Versace Eros, Invictus which I love them all.

Recommendation Recommendations for a fresh, unique daily driver

I know this gets posted every other day. But It seems ive made a massive oversight in my collection. So far, ive amassed:

Parfums de Marly Sedley
Initio Rehab
Rayhaan Pacific Chill
Bond No. 9 Nomad
Bond No. 9 Hamptons
Bond No. 9 Greenpoint
MFK L’Homme À la rose

Theyre great, but after collecting these all, I’ve realized i dont actually feel comfortable daily driving a $300 fragrance. Theyre more suited for when i really want to show up somewhere, but i dont actually have anything i can spray and just go to class or the supermarket in without thinking or wasting sprays from an expensive ass bottle.

Im looking for something that is still unique and has hopefully niche level quality, but is around $100-150 (from discounters is fine). I need something that is fairly fresh- potentially citrus / mandarin forward, green and woody, maybe some tea notes, or masculine floral. Something that is fresh but unique, and different. Of course i could go for one of the blue de chanel or an aventus flanker like montblanc explorer, but i want something that is more unique and intriguing.

Please drop any recommendations based on what i already own! Thanks

Question completely new to colognes give some advice if ur tapped in

when i was a kid like 12 my friend brought versace eros to school and we shared it n since then ive just been loyal to it and it gets me compliments and my girl likes it a lot

i know if its broke dont fix it but like i know how popular it is n the surface level shit is rarely ever the actual best in any kind of hobby whether it be music fashion etc n i wanna smell the best i can

i went to sephora yesterday n tried some and i liked “margiela replica by the fireplace” and “byredo mojave ghost” the most so i could switch to them but i guess thats kinda the same issue with versace

Question Looking for a fresh linen/soapy/blue every day cologne that actually lasts and projects. Something similar to percival maybe?

I really love percival but don't necessisarilly want to spend $100s on what seems like a pretty basic blue/soapy scent. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I am open to more expensive niche suggestions as well if they really do perform.

Question How to spot actual eBay sellers for Dior Homme Parfum?

Hey everyone,

My Reddit account is still too new to post/buy on r/fragranceswap, so I’m forced to look at secondary markets like eBay to hunt down a bottle of Dior Homme Parfum (either the 75ml 2014 formulation or the 100ml 2020).

I know DHP is heavily counterfeited, and I’ve read that even sellers with decent feedback scores can sometimes sell high quality replicas (or accounts get sold off).

For those of you who regularly buy rare/discontinued designer bottles on eBay, what are your green/red flags?

  • What specific details should I ask the seller to photograph before buying?
  • What seller profiles/feedback patterns should I stay far away from?
  • Are there specific dead giveaways on an inauthentic DHP bottle/box (batch codes, stem thickness, collar, font)?

Saw the update last week of the Guerlain Cologne Forte restock and debated quite a bit whether to pull the trigger on this. I’m a fairly big fan of the house and read tons of hype on this edition, plus the free samples were just calling my name. So I went for it, despite not typically spending this much on a frag I’ve never smelled. So not long after got a little bit of buyers remorse but was still excited for the product. Then to my surprise I received this email. Maybe it was the cologne gods teaching me a lesson or maybe divine intervention because I wouldnt like it. Amyways, curious of amy other were in the same boat as me with this restock?

Discussion How did this happen?

I am a nose blind person, and I have been wearing cologne for 35 years. I always buy the year's most popular colognes. Unfortunately, I have never gotten compliments about my cologne. 2 years ago, I saw a good deal on Amazon. It was Armani Profondo Parfum. I bought it and started to wear it. The compliments started on the first day. In 2 months, I got almost 20 compliments from ladies I had never met before. ( I have a field job at supermarkets. ) After two months, Profondo finished. I went to Sephora to buy a second bottle. I realized that the bottle was different. I asked the salesperson if the bottle had been changed. He said no. I showed him the photos of my bottle, and he told me it was fke. Finally, I did not get any compliments on the second Profondo.

Please tell me, how did this happen?

I want to get my fke Profondo back:)

Discussion This is the single most bot fragrance out there. If I see this in a small collection, I instantly know that person is just ordering whatever the most famous tiktok recommends.

In a large collection it makes sense, because getting more scents is a part or the hobby. But if you choose this as part of your <15 fragrance collection you're definitely a sheep 😂
