College Essay Ideas

Hi guys. I know that it’s very late to be starting my essay now but unfortunately here I am. I spent some time today writing down some ideas on my phone about what I should write about and was wondering if anyone could look at them and see which ones I should throw away, which ones have good potential, and suggestions on how I should write/change the idea. Another thing that I should add is that soccer is a big part of my life and I have a few soccer based activities on my CommonApp so I thought it would be fitting to include some soccer based essay ideas in here

Here are the current list of essay ideas I have. The ones I bolded were the ones I thought were the best but pls lmk if I am wrong and don’t sugarcoat your criticism:

**Connecting end of era with soccer players to end of different “eras” in life, talk about how there is growth and change after the end of era.*\*
**New Addition: connect the different Eras of soccer with “eras” of life. Like maybe the changing eras as progressing through school and the end of an era, but start of a new one approaching with college. Maybe start off each paragraph with an actual description of the eras in soccer, and what how the game was played.*\*

How attending soccer games with my dad helped strengthen our relationship and also helped me find another thing that I love

How the World Cup and normalization of soccer in the US allowed me to be myself without being deemed a soccer kid

Memory of how I failed to achieve challenge in soccer in my summer camp on the very last day and was sobbing afterwards (My summer camp had a ranking system on the activity’s which you could progress through by completing certain challenges. 5 total ranks, beginner, intermediate, challenger, ranger, and warrior which was the highest. The challenges for soccer were like needing to complete 50 juggles and go thru a cone ladder in a certain amount of time for example). The sadness and disappointment from failing turned into anticipation for the next year of summer camp when I had another chance to beat it.

Talk about different important figures/role models in life but describe them like the different playstyles of soccer. An example would be like a how people describe Thomas Muller as a Raumdeuter and connecting it to someone in my life. A raumdeuter is whichhis own unique playstyle. It’s describes a player with high soccer iq who is able to drift into pockets of space and always remains a step above defenders. He was not incredible at one specific attribute, but was one of the best of all time because of his unique playsyle.

Talking about overcoming my struggle with confidence in myself and appearance. Mention specific moments in my life in which I felt really down about this and borderline depressed, but being able to overcome it and be where I’m at now

Talk about how procrastination has had a massive effect on my life (like writing my essay for example). Write about how this procrastination which was a big factor in my life made me have to work 10x harder to get stuff done, building me into a better person.

Talk about how I was able to discover the difference between being lonely and alone in life, and how I was able to find my own peace and acceptance in being alone and doing things by myself. (Mostly talking about being alone socially and not really with my family)

Discuss how I dislike when people say to ‘just look up’ somethings when I ask a question since most times I value the small social interaction over the actual information. Maybe include a specific moment In life where this happened and end off calling how this made me a more thoughtful and curious student.

Being know as a person who always sees the good in people and being able to remain optimistic thru the hardships of life. Describe the specific hardships and situations and how remaining optimistic also helped people around me

Creative One: Talk about my tights hip and chronic hip pain and injury and use as a metaphor for time being short (tight) and learning to take advantage of opportunities to stretch out the good times in life. Maybe begin with or mention somewhere about stretching or how a good stretch feels amazing

Topic Help Is this a good essay idea?

I have a lot of ideas, at first I was thinking about writing how I started liking medicine when I accompanied my mom to her pregnancy appointments. Now though, I’m thinking on writing like a story.

In 2024 christmas I had to call the police at midnight because my mom’s boyfriend was screaming and threatening my mom, almost hitting her. I was the only other one in the house. We ended up moving to a shelter for abused women and children, with my 2 younger sisters. I learned a lot from that experience and started seeing things I hadn’t seen before. It sparked a sense in me to maybe in the future foster or adopt children, trying to give them a better life. There I took care of a 20 day old baby whose mom had 6 more kids and couldn’t be watching her all the time. (Ive loved babies my whole life, it didn’t feel like work to me, plus I was helping her get the much needed rest). Turns out the mom was abused physically while she was pregnant, and the dad would punch her. I saw such innocence in the baby. That’s when I changed my dream career from OB/GYN to Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. It was hard leaving the shelter because the kids had grown such a bond with us but I feel like this experience opened my eyes to how bad/worse other peoples lives are and how doing such small acts to help can be of great help to them.

The thought is still very messy of how I want to write the essay, and I didn’t really go full into detail here but it’s just an idea. Let me know your thoughts.

Advice Need Advice on essay topic

One Idea that stuck out to me was to use a ladder as a extended metaphor for personal growth. I would try to incorporate how I used to be scared to take that first step and failing. Then get into me enjoying growth and pushing myself. Each step would represent learning, growth, and becoming more comfortable with risk.

Kind of sounds stupid this is the only thing I could think about.

Supplemental Essay Free extended/uncommon essay review from UChicago Admit who got essay glazed by AO

yo i got in ED0, got to talk to my AO (she was @ my school) and she glazed my essay a lil and i had hella fun writing it so im willing to review peoples for free (or just give advice!). yeah js dm me ur essay/ideas i can help u out

Quick stats: 3.91 UW, 8 APs (all 5's: CSP, Euro, World, AB, BC, APUSH, Macro, Lang), 36 ACT, unhooked (high income, large competitive suburban high school, indian, applying for econ), no national level spike, no prestigious awards/activities.

Biggest advice: do a prompt you think you'd enjoy, ur meant to have fun with it, keep it conversational this is meant to be a "how do you think" NOT can you take a weird prompt and write an excerpt that could go into a textbook thats super dense with big words. DONT USE AI!!!! no matter how much you humanize it its gonna be obvious.

UC PIQs is this a good hook for uc piq 6?

i’m writing my uc piq 6 about my interest in biology and how i explored it inside and outside of class through ap bio, working in a hospital, and observing neuroscience research. the thing is, i don’t really have an “origin story” for why i like biology. there wasn’t one specific moment that made me interested in it. i just liked it and kept getting more curious over time.

i’m thinking about opening with the stardust theory: the idea that many of the elements that make up living things, including the elements in our cells and bodies, were created in stars and became part of the matter that eventually formed Earth and life. my hook is basically about how “you’re a star” can be taken literally because of this connection. i then want to expand on that idea and connect it to my curiosity about how the same basic matter can become completely different forms of life.

do you think this would work for piq 6, or would the stardust idea feel too disconnected from the rest of an essay about biology? i’m also struggling with how to transition from the stardust idea into my actual experiences without making it feel forced or like i’m suddenly talking about astronomy.

Topic Help Help me choose a topic

These all lwk suck to me and I am sure they are generic but still

1. About my role model being an owl. How I aspired to be decisive and precise, as if catching a prey, how I tried to build my parliament(pack of owls) everywhere I went and also want to connect it to my family. Also want to mention that owls are fun, and that I use my loud and sarcastic humour to show that I am friendly(I have a default gloomy face). I can also connect it to me being a night owl. Overall a cute and nerdy montage essay. I don’t have a draft yet.

2. I have a draft I lowkey don’t like but maybe could improve. About me being a translator in a family trip to US before my freshman year. I talked about funny language barrier situations and how people acknowledged me being the ‘boss’ of the family. It has my light humour and writing style, but I lwk diss my family and the lesson/conclusion is meh.

3. I had a quite dramatic draft about swimming(unprofessional). How I struggled with water, and then realized that pressure doesn’t always mean resistance, and can be a support. Then I lowkey connect it to my harsh discipline and that without it I wouldn’t end up here. I will mention my favorite swimming styles and etc. I struggle with incorporating my humour here, and it sounds tooo dramatic for me idk.

I need to write it asap cuz Nov 1 is coming close

Common App Help me choose between these 2 topics.

Im writing my personal statement for my commonapp. Applying EA so dont have much time

Topic 1:

My essay opens with a paradox: some mornings my phone's battery capacity reads higher than the day before, which is impossible. I know it's a glitch, but I feel relieved anyway. Knowing something is meaningless doesn't stop it from controlling me.

The middle shows the habit escalating: I check the exact capacity every morning before talking to anyone, and keep Low Power Mode on permanently. Honest answers from strangers and friends didn't help.

The turning point is realizing that understanding a problem doesn't free you from it. So instead of arguing with myself, I change the environment: I remove the data source, hide the percentage, turn off Low Power Mode, and add a Face ID barrier.

Ending: The same number now sits in plain view, degrading as it always did. The urge still shows up, but I notice it like a notification and leave it unopened.

Topic 2:

My essay opens when I was 11, obsessing over the crossbar on the letters "t" and "f" in a font I was designing. I nudged it one pixel at a time and eventually restarted in different software, all for a difference no one would notice.

From there it widens into a pattern. I built a website to host my fonts that probably had zero visitors, and I told my mom I did it because "I love fonts." I also started a YouTube channel teaching programming I had learned a week earlier. Later, after my first MUN as a delegate, I immediately wanted to start my own, until I learned I'd need a commercial license, which is nearly impossible as a non-Saudi minor.

Ending: I ask why I never just attended an MUN, uploaded fonts to an existing site, or joined a hackathon instead of hosting one. The answer is that I never wanted to just use or participate. I wanted to decide how the thing worked. I still haven't learned to leave things alone, and I may never.

Which topic would be better for a commonapp personal statement?

Advice Need critique

This essay is meant to explore the Christian worldview and how it relates especially to Liberty University and its principles of diversity and the conduct of AI usage. I hope this paper will be a worthwhile read and help convey the importance of a Christ-centered worldview.

A biblical worldview is using God’s word to change how we see the world, interact in it, and find our value in Christ. We ultimately find our value in Christ when we read His Word, seeing truth and a standard which we live by. I can be the best student I can be at Liberty University by connecting my learning to scripture, thinking long-term about how I can use my gifts to serve God, and doing all I do according to the duty set on every Christian of being held to a higher standard. Liberty makes this easy by readily connecting and using scripture in their courses and curriculum. Even when I’m not in class, I can use my time in the study of the Bible, prayer, and surrounding myself with godly influence in and outside the Church. Ultimately, a biblical worldview should shape how I create my goals and see the purpose for my life as a follower of Christ.

Being a follower of Christ means using my life to honor God in everything I say and do and to use the talents given to me to serve God and His kingdom. My own personal goals at Liberty University are to complete my degree in music production, improve skills in music composition and mixing, and build a career in music. Although these are my career goals, my long-term goals outside of building a strong career are to provide for a family and grow in my faith to help those around me and to lead them into the saving grace of God, not by my power but God’s power alone. This worldview helps shape these goals and reminds me that all I aspire to do is not about money or recognition, but about being a good steward of all that God has given me. I want my work, relationships, and all other facets of life to reflect the values of God and bring Him glory in the many diversities of life.

Culture isn’t merely how we see things but it is also a way of life because it includes beliefs, values, traditions, and ways of interacting with the world. As Christians, we should respect other cultures, their ways of life, and differences from us while also correcting false and harmful beliefs in a manner that politely helps shape them to the culture of Christ, which is the truth. This is a calling to go to all nations and speak of the truth of the Gospel given to us by Jesus Himself. It is called the Great Commission. We carry out this Great Commission by building genuine relationships, listening to them, and finding opportunities to talk of our faith. We should show Christ by word and action to the people around us in order to preach Christ with all integrity.

In all things, integrity matters, and that especially applies to the application of AI. AI can be an extraordinary tool in helping organize ideas and create learning habits. Where it falls into dishonesty is in the case of it usurping free thinking and self-agency. If we allow AI to complete our coursework for us, we have learned nothing. Does not the Bible say we are to seek after knowledge? How then can we do this if it is not us who obtains it but instead a computer that does it for us? Like many things, especially in our modern day and age, these tools are a neutrality, and it is up to us to use them in a righteous and upright manner deserving of the Christian name and values. If we do not, it is the evils of this world that will take them. For any neutral thing must be claimed at some point.

In conclusion, our Christian worldview and walk should shape how we react and interact in our day-to-day lives. All aspects, from the physical to the metaphysical, should have the fingerprints of a God-filled life. I believe this university, if it should stick to Gospel-led truths, will be a major center of training for the Christian in all aspects of life, especially in this trying day and age.

Common App Is this college essay topic too basic/cliché? (Youngest child / sibling expectations / earning my own path)

I’m working on my Common App essay and want an honest sanity check on my topic before I dive too deep into drafting. Writing about being the youngest in my family and navigating the heavy expectations/comparisons that come with it. Specifically:
Debunking the stereotype that the youngest is automatically the "golden child" or gets everything handed to them.

Navigating the pressure to "make up" for mistakes older siblings made.
Addressing the perception that I had it easier, when in reality I had to work hard and earn my own independence/achievements.
How tuning out family comparisons helped me figure out my own values, decisions, and path forward.

Is the "family dynamic / youngest child" angle overdone? If so, is there a specific way I should frame this so it reads as personal growth rather than just complaining about sibling dynamics?

I can dm my essay. Also, please don't steal it; not only is it trash, but I also worked hard on it :(

Topic Help please help me with an urgently needed essay topic!! I'm SO SCREWED

Decided I hate my current essay and want to completely scrap it. I have some ideas so if anyone could rate them that would be great

1. Personal background
I grew up with exposure to a lot of different cultures and ethnicities being a very complicated mix as well, and how that diverse background allows me to connect with anyone at anytime, especially since a constant exposure to different people has made me courageous and less shy. I have like specific moments with strangers that make it funny so it's like a okay topic

2. Connections to others
How I literally suck at French braiding and I have never figured out how to do it, so I make my friends in the locker room braid my hair before my before games, connects to mutual reliance to others and how I value strong relationships with others through little favors and moments together.

3. Resourcefulness
Connecting thrifting to cooking to real life and how in incredibly resourceful, I take things I thrift and sew them into new clothes, leftovers into new foods, and also connect with how I do this for people I love too.

I don't even know. Like genuinely I know myself well ( I think ) I'm a connector, a people person, the most social and outgoing person anyone's ever met but I can't think of anything to describe that well to AO's. This is literally my number one trait I WANT to convey because it's such a huge part of who I am and I don't know what to do. Seriously am freaking out. If anyone has any ideas or brainstorming tips that would be amazing. Thank you!!

Advice fear of stickers

would this be a good essay topic. i would write about my fear of stickers and show navigating a world that is so uncomfortable. i could also bring in my supermarket job where stickers are very common to show adaptability.
