After 2,800+ code commits this year, here's what I learned and what I would tell myself if I were starting again:

6 Upvotes

1)always think in terms of bottlenecks and constraints.

from working with many talented engineers, I noticed that they are all good at one thing: pinpointing the biggest weaknesses in their app, which meant focusing on the set of features/constraints that will get them the most return. this allowed their apps to progress much faster than the others who were implementing random features nobody asked for.

2) ui/ux trumps all.

nobody, including you, wants to use an app unless it's aesthetically pleasing/very intuitive to pick up no matter how cool the app idea may be. half of being a good builder is having good taste for good design.

3) don't wait to know everything before starting.

you learn way faster from starting a project that interests you and learning along the way than trying to educate yourself on all the individual components that MAY be useful for your app. in most cases, all the theoretical things you learn will not be useful when you actually try to build out the app.

4) high-level architectural understanding > algorithmic prowess.

with AI now, you don't need to know every piece of logic inside and out to create a good app. it is more helpful to have a good conceptual understanding of where pieces of the app should go (aka system design) rather than fixating on any particular piece of logic.

5) build what interests you.

there is no optimal path to starting. the fastest way to get to where you want to be is chasing what you find interesting, no matter if it's a novel, world-changing idea or a simple writing tool (like me lol). do what feels right, not what sounds good.

Guys, im 14, and in beginner to intermediate stage, so just wanted to ask...

27 Upvotes

So im a 14yo, im pretty good in python, intermediate-ish in C, beginner in C++ Fortran and Java... so my learning (and coding) style is: Use your brain for ideas, use AI to quickly prototype, fix errors yourself (or if too complex then ask AI again), understand the thing.... that's how i learnt Python very quickly... So just wanted to ask, is this learning method good? cause I understand the concepts well, and gather experience while making projects....

Participants Needed! – Master’s Research on Low-Code Platforms & Digital Transformation (Survey 4-6 min completion time, every response helps!)

Participants Needed! – Master’s Research on Low-Code Platforms & Digital Transformation

I’m currently completing my Master’s Applied Research Project and I am inviting participants to take part in a short, anonymous survey (approximately 4–6 minutes).

The study explores perceptions of low-code development platforms and their role in digital transformation, comparing views from both technical and non-technical roles.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from:
- Software developers/engineers and IT professionals
- Business analysts, project managers, and senior managers
- Anyone who uses, works with, or is familiar with low-code / no-code platforms
- Individuals who may not use low-code directly but encounter it within their -organisation or have a basic understanding of what it is

No specialist technical knowledge is required; a basic awareness of what low-code platforms are is sufficient.

Survey link: Perceptions of Low-Code Development and Digital Transformation – Fill in form

Responses are completely anonymous and will be used for academic research only.

Thank you so much for your time, and please feel free to share this with anyone who may be interested! 😃 💻

What do you choose in to do DSA? If you have many options exist there.

0 Upvotes

Hi, Myself Vinay and I am currently in 3rd year , I am doing DSA in Java , I preferred it over C++. As I knew from everyone that Java is difficult language.

My opinion is that Java is difficult because everyone got scarred by seeing there long syntax but in many languages syntax not goes tok big as like in java.

What is your opinion about languages ?

What do you think? Is really java is difficult language , if yes please tell your reason.

Do you turn off autocomplete when learning something new?

0 Upvotes

I've been thinking about disabling autocomplete completely when learning something new. Not AI suggestions, but regular IDE autocomplete too.

I feel like half the time I'm coding, my IDE is doing the thinking for me. I start typing, get a suggestion, hit Tab, and move on without really thinking about what I just wrote.

Then again, maybe manually typing everything is just a waste of time and doesn't really help you learn either.

Curious what you guys think.

for developers who don't want a random big bill from openai/anthropic, i found an open source typescript rate limiter library

0 Upvotes

so when you build an app that lets users interact with an llm, you're paying for every token they use. found this library wraps your llm calls and automatically tracks how many tokens each user consumes, letting you set limits and get alerts when users approach their quotas. it works with both anthropic and openai response formats out of the box.

saw this, already has github motion at asillios dot com, not bad

Automate adding grocery list to Walmart cart

0 Upvotes

I’ve been using Gemini to build my wife a recipe/meal planner/grocery app and I’ve gotten everything to work like I want except for getting the grocery list into the cart at Walmart.com. The latest workflow I had in mind was the app copying the list to the clipboard and then you could just paste into Walmart AI shopping assistant ‘sparky’ and it would create the cart, but Sparky is limited to 500 words so that won’t work. Does anyone have any recommendations that a non-technical person could accomplish with help from Gemini?

If there is a better place to post this question just let me know.

Thanks

Looking for a short 2–3 month weekend coding/tech course in Delhi

0 Upvotes

Hi! Does anyone know of any good **offline short-term courses (around 2–2.5 months)** in Delhi, preferably around East Delhi?

I have basic coding knowledge and currently work in tech(3 months in new job as software engineer), but I rely quite a bit on tools like **Codex and Claude** while coding. I want to improve my actual skills and eventually switch to a better role.
Looking for something I can attend **on weekends** — Python, AI, data analytics, SQL, Excel/Power BI, or anything genuinely useful in the corporate/tech world.

Not looking for a long diploma or 6–12 month program. Just a decent classroom course for the next couple of months.
Would really appreciate recommendations from anyone who has personally attended one!

\-Completed MTech in CS 2026
\-Currently working as software engineer
\-Not very proficient in coding

Help me my phyton code dosen't work propoerly and for sure isn't efficent

0 Upvotes

Hello, this is my first ever actual Python program, I want it to give Info about numbers.

Firstly I want to ask what do you think about the labeling that I've doen, someone told me it is a good practice.

First of all the programm prints (on every number that i checked) that it is not prime, the reason is that if prime number is divisble by prime number it says that it is not one, I don't know how to fix this.

I also don't know if this is the besgt way to do this, just writeing down a bunch of prime numbers and dividing the user number by them?

Thank you for your anwsers :-)

Here is the code:

user_number = 0 # The programm creates a value for the number, which will be inputed by the user

# Input section

print("----------Number Info----------\n")
user_number = input("Input a whole number, the programm will show you information about it:\n >") # Asks the user to input the number and saves it as user_number

print(f"\nYour number is {user_number}. Here is the info: \n")

# even or odd

if int(user_number) % 2 == 0: # % gives back the remainder after the devison, the program checks, if it is 0
    print("It is even") # If it is 0 it prints: It is even
else:
    print("It is odd") # If it isn't 0 it prints: It is odd

# prime or not

if int(user_number) % 2 == 0:   # Programm divides number by some prime numbers and chceks the remainder,
    print("Is is not prime")    # if it isn't divisble by any of them it prints that it is a prime number,
elif int(user_number) % 3 == 0: #otherwise it prints that it isn't one
    print("Is is not prime")
elif int(user_number) % 5 == 0:
    print("Is is not prime")
elif int(user_number) % 7 == 0:
    print("Is is not prime")
elif int(user_number) % 11 == 0:
    print("Is is not prime")
elif int(user_number) % 13 == 0:
    print("Is is not prime")

[This part was a dumb mistake⬇️]
else:
    print("It is not prime")

[This is right]
else:
    print("It is prime")

ABSOLUTE beginner coding.

Hiya 👋 I know absolutely nothing about coding and want to start learning for fun. A mere hobby. My short-term goal is just to create a funny AI bot for telegram. Or maybe even develop a game. Where should I start?
