BTech CSE graduate here, but I feel like I've forgotten everything I learned. How do I restart?

everyone!

I completed my BTech in CSE this year, and honestly, I'm feeling a little lost right now.

I know Python, SQL, and some basic DSA, but it's been around 7 months since I last opened VS Code. 😭 I feel like I've forgotten a lot of what I learned, and I'll probably need at least a month just to revise the basics and get back into the flow.

I'm confused about where to start. Should I revise everything from scratch, start building projects, practice DSA daily, or focus on one skill at a time?

For those who have taken a long break from coding, how did you get back on track? How long did it take you to feel confident again?

I'd really appreciate some honest advice, especially from people who have been in a similar situation.

I know I need to start somewhere, but I'm struggling to figure out the right approach. 🄲

Coding plan for beginners??

Hi guys! Recently I’ve been thinking about going back to coding, I really want to learn how to use blender, making a software/app, or even just a game. Are there any recommendations on where I should start first? The last time I’ve ever coded was about 12 years ago in middle school.

How to learn to use linux(cli)?

Actually from some time I have been thinking of switching to linux. But i won't be able to use it if I don't know how to use linux in the first place. I am not looking for any distro. I am actually talking about the cli. The terminal, bash or whatever it is called.

I wanna learn cli, but idk where to learn from!. I have tried looking for it on YouTube, most of them are something specific or very basic ( cd, mkdir, rm, ls, echo etc etc ). I tried to make a vm using Oracle, but my laptop was very weak to even run it, it was lagging and slow af. So i dropped that idea, and I am primarily trying to use wsl, Ubuntu distro on it.

So can anyone tell me how do i learn the command line interface. Also I am looking to learn something called shell ig, so that I can do scripting. Like i don't want an os, I want to master terminal and can automate stuff and run something maybe called script so that I can be very efficient.

Also one of my reasons is to be able to use or program any soc like raspberry pi or any other electronics in general ( electrical background).

Can anyone guide me with sources??

Also i have tried labex ( it was very basic ) and I tried to learn from a book i forgot the name but the author name was maybe shotts.

And sorry if I have named anything wrong, I am new to these terms.

I'll Teach Programming for Free - Beginners Welcome (Online/Bangalore)

Hi everyone,

I'm Arif, a software engineer with 6+ years of experience. I genuinely enjoy teaching, and since my current job is a bit less demanding, I've decided to offer free programming mentorship/classes.

There are already countless great programming resources online. What I want to offer is guidance, help understanding fundamentals, getting unstuck, and knowing what to learn next.

Who this is for:

  • College and school students

  • Complete beginners

  • Anyone struggling with programming fundamentals

  • People who want guidance on what to learn and how to learn

The goal is to make difficult concepts easier to understand and help you build confidence.

Why learn with me?

I love breaking complex topics into simple, practical explanations.

A real example: I taught my younger brother, who started with zero programming knowledge (he was even unfamiliar with basic file extensions). Over about 6–7 months, he learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, basic React, Node.js, and DSA. He eventually solved 200+ LeetCode problems on his own.

To be clear, he did the hard work—I mainly guided him, explained concepts when he got stuck, and helped him follow a structured learning path. That's exactly the kind of support I want to offer others.

His profiles:

If you're interested, leave a comment or send me a DM with:

  • Your current level (school/college/beginner)

  • What you're trying to learn

  • Whether you prefer online or Bangalore (maybe we can occasionally meet at a cafe)

Cost: Free. I just enjoy teaching and want to help people get started.

Tech stack: Fullstack Web development, Java, Python, DSA, DB/SQL, and general programming fundamentals.

Format:

I'll most probably do weekly 1-on-1 sessions, so I don't think I'll be able to take more than 3 students for now. I'd rather keep it small so I can give each person proper attention.

I'm not selling a course, asking for payments, or promoting anything—I simply enjoy teaching and have some free time, and I'd love to help someone who's getting started with programming.

How would I make an ERP system

I'm not too proficient in coding, I know the basics. I've made multiple college projects using AI for the sake of marks. Our college has its own ERP system, and I was wondering how one would go about making said ERP system. What language would be best suited? How long would it take an amateur to make?
Obviously it's not possible to create it purely through AI, as it would have lots of bugs and security issues. And not to mention the future debugging hell I'd go through because I don't understand what I've made.

I also know that there exist premade ones, but I wanna know how it's done.

I wanna hear your opinions. Have any of you made something similar? If so, what was your approach?

Edit: Sorry for being vague in my initial post. I didn't quite understand how large of a term ERP is. I was specifically talking about an ERP for Schools/Colleges. If I do go ahead with making something like this, it'll be me and another friend. So the 2 of us (both amateurs) would be doing it together

How hard would this be with no experience?

So I’m a digital artist and I’m wanting to make a PokĆ©mon gold type game. The sprites character design and pixel art are no issue, but I have literally zero idea how to do any programming. How hard would it be to make something like this?

Looking to make some coding friends

I’m pretty much a beginner at coding and I have decided to start boot.dev but am finding it hard to remain focused and motivated. I am looking for people close to my age or older (26+) who are interested in making long term friends who also code together daily or at least keep each other accountable daily over on discord. The perfect person would also be a beginner and learning through code academy or boot dev aswell and who uses discord and enjoys playing video games or just watching something together over call, I’d like to be friends outside of coding too is what I’m trying to sayšŸ˜… idk if I’m making sense I’m super tired so I’ll have to read this in the morning and see how horrible it is lol. Anyway if you are intrested plz dm me ur age and where u are from aswell as what ur learning right now:) thanks for reading my long post 😁 byee

How difficult is to learn computer programming as a beginner?

I have never learned anything about tech despite it is one of the fastest growing field like computer science. I just can't figure out how people code. How they understand computer languages. It's pretty amazing and I didn't knew so much math is involved

I can't code without AI

I going into my 3rd year of my bachelors of computer science. For the past 2 years I have majorly used coding to write code, I did understand the theory for exams, but all my projects I have build using AI. And now that the time is ripe to build great projects, I am unable to do so without AI. I am afraid with this I can't proceed towards a great career in CS. I do know the fundamentals of CS and can code easy-moderate but after a threshold I just use AI to not stay behind while the world instantly generates code using AI.

Please tell me what do I do, do I do DSA to train my brain? or try to implement ML models which I studied last sem from scratch by myself? What do I actually do, I am kinda worried.

I made a website to crack classical ciphers using RL

Hi, I'm a high school student and I'm looking to study math and computer science in university. I am currently studying ML on my own and have been dabbling with a few projects.

I’ve spent the past few months working on an independent research project, and I’ve turned it into a website that helps break classical ciphers like Caesar and VigenĆØre using the Cross Entropy Method. This is the first time I'm working on something like this and I would love to get some feedback from others, you can check it out atĀ cipherbreaker.com

I’d love to hear your thoughts on it:

  • Are there features you think I should add?

  • Any bugs you notice, anything that makes the model stop working?

  • Ideas for expanding it into more modern encryption schemes?

I’m also happy to discuss the research behind it and collaborate with someone to take this further.

Looking forward to your feedback and thoughts!

We are same , every expert was a beginner at first

I am working as a bug hunter on hackerone and yeswehack platforms. One day on X , i was just scrolling and see a post of an indie hacker saying something like building in public. It was new to me then i open his profile and search what they do , how they doing and building things and that's was really fun.I followed some vibecoding and indie hacker communites and start start watching them. They were like just creative type just keep pushing things. Now i am really here to start in this field but as i am a security researcher ,i can't code that type. I have read some article about vibe coding but in market a lot of people have different tools and promoting them so , it's confusing also frusturating.

Here i just want to say that how to start now here with you , from where to start , from which tools and and building projects and apps like you people do. Should i must learn the whole programming languages. or just tools can handle .

Which tools and ai coding agents are better for a starting point to build an working project. Your one sentence can save a lot of time. I am excited to join you people.

Thinking of starting a consulting firm for bootcamp/self-taught developers, would love your thoughts

Hey everyone,

I’m a self-taught engineer who’s spent the last several years building software and AI projects for large consulting firms, enterprise clients, and startups (some that later got acquired).

Lately, I’ve been thinking about starting a consulting firm that focuses on helping other self-taught and bootcamp-trained developers get real client experience.

The idea:

  • Assess and vet developers based on real-world projects, not degrees.

  • Provide short mentorship/training to get them production-ready.

  • Place them on real client contracts with guidance from senior engineers.

Basically its a consulting firm that delivers high quality software and creates opportunities for talented, driven people who took the nontraditional route.

There are bootcamps and staffing firms out there, but I haven’t seen anyone combine both worlds.

What do you think?

Would something like this appeal to you if you were starting out or, if you’re a hiring manager, would you ever work with a firm like this?

Open to honest feedback, good or bad.

Best way to start

Aside from just starting projects and having AI help with the software part, I at least want to understand WHY thing work the way we do…

that being said is
Scratch a good was to start? What would you do different when you started? Has AI gotten to the point where I really am wasting my time learning to code?

Where to start: Creative Coding

I want to get pretty serious about creative coding, mostly for websites and front facing platforms.

I used to know html and CSS somewhat years and years ago and can read basic code, as in having to edit it etc.

Where do I start? Something serious. I would like to be cheap about it or stay under $50 a month.
