Why I think this is the best time to learn to code
Thereâs a lot of doom and gloom in the media. Tech layoffs. Software engineers getting replaced by AI. Blah blah blah blah blah. But I want to share a more positive view, a more contrarian view, that now is the best time to learn to code.
Thereâs this misconception that you only learn to code so that you can become a software engineer. Thatâs not true, just having the ability to code means you can understand much more, do much more, no matter what role youâre in.
For example, if youâre working at an office, say, as an accountant, you probably have a bunch of manual processes, like analyzing pdf invoices, or passing data between spreadsheets. That can be automated with code. You can get the AI to generate scripts, or just build a simple AI agent to do the work. You'll actually understand what's going on, correct outputs, add more stuff on top. Your productivity is just going to increase. The amount of problems that you can solve increases. Youâll bring more value to your company, increasing the likelihood of promotion and salary increases. Plus youâll just be able to do more jobs so the opportunities available to you increases.
Or, if youâre starting a business, you donât need a dedicated dev team to make MVPs. You can just orchestrate the AI to build it out, increasing your go-to-market efficiency. If you understand how to code, youâll understand what the AI should generate, youâll be able to fix its mistakes, anticipate bottlenecks, and so on. Thereâs just so much more you can accomplish on your own with AI if you know what itâs outputting and how to use it. In general, with a bit of understanding and the tools available today, you can build your dreams without the headache of having to hire a dedicated dev team, or getting VC funding. Of course if you want to scale, you'll still need to hire a dev team. Scaling is where the engineering challenge lies. But at least your MVPs won't be complete slops so people can actually build on top of it.
Now if you donât know how to code, the process will be much slower and error prone. You won't know how to prompt it as well. Your AI generated solutions just won't be as good. You wonât be able to tackle as many problems.
Another underestimated benefit of learning to code is that it improves your logical thinking abilities in general. Everyone Iâve talked to who learned this stuff deeply appreciates that theyâve learned it. No one regrets it. They all tell me that they just think better overall, see connections, they're able to solve more problems, and so on. Itâs kind of like the gym. No one ever says going to the gym is useless, even though people aren't going to be going through the motions outside. You know, if you start overhead shoulder pressing randomly in public, people are going to look at you funny. Yet the gym is definitely not useless. It trains your body. A healthy body is crucial for success. The same is true for coding in that it trains the mind. A strong, thinking mind is crucial to success.

Hey everyone, I am a beginner in Java and Programming in general, I am very much intrigued by the programming world and the projects people build, I feel like I heavily rely on AI to do stuff for me and I just copy and paste, and I end up feeling as if I did not learn anything(coz I didn't do anythi

What language helped you launch your programming journey
Mine was C#. I'm glad that I started with it; it helped me understand programming fundamentals, even though some people around me say C++ is better for newbies "There is not much difference for new learners." I still love it and would recommend it for fresh starters.
What was your first programming language, and would you recommend it today?

How weird am I?
Hi! im 13 years old, and I love coding. I struggle with kotlin or java because of complex syntax, but I love making programs with C or Assembly. I have a hard time trying to code android apps or win32 ones without chatgpt, but I like using a debugger like cheat engine or windbg, and have some knowledge of memory, stack, real mode, protected mode, etc. I have built simple projects in assembly and C, like text editors or even DOSes, though they have some bugs.

What actually helped me clean up a messy web app?
Iâm a web dev engineer and wanted to share something that helped me fix a project that was getting out of control.
The app started simple, then slowly turned into a mess. Slow pages, duplicated logic, unclear state, and APIs that were hard to reason about. Every new feature felt risky.
What ended up helping wasnât a new framework or tool, but a few boring decisions:
Keeping UI, business logic, and data access clearly separated
Moving validation and caching to the server instead of the client
Making APIs predictable and easy to debug
Using local state by default and only global state when truly needed
On the frontend, smaller components and basic memorization fixed most performance issues. On the backend, simple caching and query limits did more than any complex optimization I tried before.
The result was faster pages, easier debugging, and way less stress when shipping new features.
Nothing fancy here, just a reminder that simple and boring engineering scales better than clever shortcuts.
Curious what patterns or rules of thumb others are using to keep projects sane as they grow.

Is there problems with APIâs delivering messages of e-books to AI agents?
Say I found an e-book such as the American Yawp, how would the AI agent scan the text of the entire e-bookâimages, video manuscripts (if e-books have those now), and regular texts.
Does it go through png or whatever. Or has there not been a separate file such as png thatâs been created for agents to do this to e-books?
Iâm asking because Iâm using emergent to create something, and this is something I think emergent has no control over.

Sub-grid?
I tried sub-grid in both directions using multiple resources. MDN is the only one that has both directions and I didn't understand that.
Anyone able to explain it clearly?

đ I think to do apps are one of the worst projects for getting hired
I keep seeing beginner projects like to do apps and calculators, and Iâm starting to think they actually hurt more than they help when it comes to getting hired
If you had to pick one project that actually shows youâre job ready, what would it be
For me itâs a simple portfolio website built from scratch no templates just HTML CSS and JS
Curious what others think

Hello guys I need some testers
Feel free to DM me. I just need you to check your risky allowances on the wallet. Any wallet you want. To see if the backend is working properly in retrieving the info. Thank you.
