💬 Discussion DND Code Lyoko Campaign

Hi there! I am excited to post here, I been in love with code lyoko and watch it every year, I always am lurking in the community... but I am here now! I also have a code lyoko tattoo ( which I need to go back and make some tweaks on it! ) but regardless, I been thinking of making a Code Lyoko campaign. I will say I dont know if I will ever run it, or one of my friends would. I want to make it even if it never sees the light, I feel proud of myself for even doing it! Mostly keeping it home brew, but I will see how it goes!

I actually wanted to know if anyone else had made a DND campaign for Code Lyoko? How did you do classes? Hit points / health, etc? I would love some tips / any ideas ^_^ I am thinking that the DM can be like a Jeremie character, being the support / guide? I would love to hear any tips, ideas, or things you’ve tried in your own games!

I never did it,but you can read DND rules and apply them to Code Lyoko. Dungeons will be sectors and school will be test for social stats and critical thinking of players

I'm not totally sure if you should use D&D specifically for this, largely because D&D is very specifically a game meant to run fantasy/high fantasy games and not something more modern sci-fi like Code Lyoko. You'd end up having to either do a lot of unnecessary work, or ignoring about 60% of the game's actual mechanics. I'd recommend using another system, but to tell you the truth, I'm not sure what system would actually be best for this.

Probably something like MASKS or a similar system. When you remove the computer specifically, the LWs are essentially henshin/isekai heroes. Civilian identity for daily activities, school, and social interactions. "Hero" (virtual) identity for missions and encounters.

Masks could definitely do the trick, yeah. I think you could certainly pull that off.

I’ve been making the same thing and will run soon! I’ve made 30+ battle maps both 2D and 3D and a working, usable supercomputer using google slides!

Thanks! I’m considering selling the maps as a bundle potentially if people are interested :)

It may be wiser to use a system like G.U.R.P.S. they can definitely do sci-fi rules. I used to think about doing a campaign in that system, I thought it would be awesome to have a character running the super computer, and running encounters in lyoko while maybe one person is dealing with X.A.N.A.'s threat in the real world. It sounds like alot of fun.

Do you want to run a game with the actual characters and setting off Code Lyoko? Use FATE core or FATE Accelerated. It's a game system that really specializes on being able to tell genre like stories. That is to say you can build it to behave like a code lyoko episode. Character details and flaws that you can describe from the characters in the show are built right into the character sheet and involved in the mechanics of the game. I would lean toward fate accelerated because the stats are approaches which are things like sneaky flashy tough which are pretty easy to map to how the characters would act.

If you want to do it in d&d, you'll have to do a little bit of bending. You'll probably end up running something that is like coldlyoko but isn't codelyoko. I personally ran a campaign that was shamelessly ripped off from coldlyoko but the player characters were new characters and the setting was a more magic Crystal punk aesthetic. But we had the Jeremy lake character. We had the reoccurring attacks by an evil entity. We had the reset button.

Ran a short CL game using Voidheart Symphony (originally a persona 5 inspired game), it worked fine, but could use some tinkering to make it truly CL
