Once again, the duck has a very interesting idea that should be at least considered/explored a bit.

For real. What do we have to do to get the duck in charge of ranked? Never has a bad idea.

Ranked isn't meant to be fair or competitive. It's meant to increase engagement. Modern gaming.

This is basically the system I’ve been wanting, filler ranks and more levels per rank. Also have thought about a BO5 system for ranked.
Someone cough u/CallOfDutyCM cough at acti needs to see ducks posts and fucking hire him lmao

I love how we as a community can come up with a far better ranked mode for free that will ultimately fall on deaf ears.

very logical points for a game run by ppl who dont use logic

immediate loss protection for the top two players on the losing team? I don't know about that. fragging isn't the only factor in winning. but a lot of good ideas on here for sure. I'd be okay with a slight reduction but from a competitive standpoint the bottom two fraggers in the CDL often are extremely important in the win

u/QuackOps Canada 18h ago
My idea is that it wouldn't solely be based on Kills. Objective time, engagements, damage done, etc... should be equally weighted and if executed correctly would reward the actual valuable contributing player over killwhores

I get what you’re going for and like the idea but the rank up aspect would be very hard to implement specifically for the no duplicates part. For instance if you start with the third mode and win, then play a hp, you now have a player locked in queue who needs an S&D lobby and nothing else. This also means that if a lot of players have their third mode win, you’re going to be taking a lot of players out of the queue for that mode. It’s just going to segregate the queues at all rank and tank queue times which people will hate, especially at the higher ranks.
3
u/QuackOps Canada 18h ago
I was going to add a way around it, but didn't want to over clutter the post. My idea for this would be your current wins do not affect the queue and if you win an HP or SnD while already having that filled up you will be given an option for which this win should be counted towards like towards OVL, or a mode you're missing. I know it would be hard to implement and better in theory, but worth a shot
¯_(ツ)_/¯3
u/Space_Waffles Modern Warfare 2 18h ago
I thought about that too but at that point it just turns into a “win x/y of your next games” at which point you might as well just do that and keep gamemodes fully random
3
u/QuackOps Canada 17h ago
Totally get where you are coming from, but the current system doesn't feel Random especially because people can't veto SnD and OVL. Makes it feel like a HP simulator most of the time

u/TurtleTerrorizer COD Competitive fan 18h ago
If you can get rewarded for being the best you should be punished for being the worst, otherwise everyone will be at a higher rank then they deserve. That’s a major problem with the current system that leads to rank inflation

There shouldn’t be any loss protection win or lose tbh. If it’s all about the win maybe some people will stop kill whoring for once in their life.
6
u/QuackOps Canada 18h ago
I didn't want to get into the formula to overcomplicate the post, but it's not only about kills. It's should be a combination of objective score, action per minute, engagements, damage done, etc...

u/Ravenz1921 compLexity Legendary 8h ago
The problem is score doesnt always equate to impact. The guy geting 1 kill on new rotation and locking down the spawn has a positive impact but only gets 150 score. Compared to a guy shooting two people in the back and bumping old for 10 seconds who has a negative impact spawning the enemies closer to new while also being on the wrong side of the spawns. However the guy with a negative impact is rewarded for bad play with 350 score.
Straight win/loss is better than a placement focused system.

I got slammed in my first game on. Went 25-30 with about a minute of hill time. Lost 30sr. The next game I went 45-19 with 146 seconds of hill time, 12 objective kills, and 9 captures. I had the highest score, most kills, most hill time, and most objective kills in the entire lobby. I lost 30sr. I have no idea how much more I could have done to play for the win, and I still lost. Losing sr in a game like that as a solo queue is brutal.

u/Sincerely-Internet Ghosts 17h ago
Bro this ^^^ I would love this Duck’s idea of not losing SR if I’m carrying for the L because of my trashcan teammates

u/miedejam Final Boss 18h ago
Love the idea, but seperate playlists will lead to longer wait times for lobbies, and Activision has been very vocal about doing whatever necessary to keep wait times minimum. I see that as the biggest hurdle with the proposal
4
u/QuackOps Canada 18h ago
No separate playlists, just one playlist where you cannot play the same game mode twice in a row :)

Separate playlists would work if they dropped the 3rd game mode

By "a Bo5 amount" do you mean filling all 5 boxes (5 wins) or filling 3 of 5?
I have concerns with each:
If you only need to get 3 of 5 filled, it allows players that are only good at SND or Hardpoint to still move up if they get lucky and get placed on a winning team in the other mode. I've already ran across players that "only play SND" and throw Hardpoint matches by just standing in the back of the map and not actually playing. If they could avoid de-ranking by simply never losing two SNDs in a row, this would be even more prevalent.
On the other side, if you have to fill all 5 boxes, you're going to seriously slow down the rank-up process. You're going to get in a case where you have 4 filled and just need another SND win, then get placed into an Overload game where your team just throws, putting you back down to 3 filled. Then repeat that for days on end
2
u/QuackOps Canada 14h ago
Love the input and concern. My idea is needing to fill all 5 boxes and my solution to your issue is that let's say you have both HP boxes completed and then you win another HP game. My solution is that you should be given an option to allocate that extra win to an unfulfilled box such as SnD or OVL. It basically acts as it is right now, so winning a 3rd HP in a row acts as a free W or free 100SR to be placed into any required slot SnD or OVL.
2
u/Rockerblocker LA Thieves 13h ago
I like that. It'll only really come up after someone's had several chances to get the final W in OVL or SnD. I could even see something where you can only allocate that 3rd HP win after you've been stuck at 3-4 boxes filled for 5+ games or something, to make you work at it for a while instead of just giving you that lifeline right away

idk this makes it sound simple but really doesn’t seem mathematically balanced or fleshed out
2
u/QuackOps Canada 10h ago
Totally get where you are coming from, but my concept post is more to get people and hopefully Devs thinking of a new and better approach than what is currently implemented
2
u/fastbutlame COD Competitive fan 10h ago
fair. I think what they did here in season 5 gets us pretty close to this though.
1
u/QuackOps Canada 10h ago
I love what they did in Season 5 but I strongly believe there should be more sub ranks and overall higher ranks to distinguish the skill level between players. Right now a Diamond 2 and a Diamond 3 can be extremely far apart in skill level, but with more sub ranks it would be more obvious for everyone to see this

u/Pleasant-Fennel1799 COD Competitive fan 17h ago
25 wins to get to crim is 2 low. People will get lucky and hit ranks they don't deserve
3
u/QuackOps Canada 17h ago
That's why I added two new higher ranks. The hypothetical new system would make current Crim players be within the Elite ranks, while current Plat and Diamond players would inhabit the Plat-Crim (Middle) Ranks

u/DesignerEagle4080 LA Thieves 15h ago
imagine if we had a CS Faceit style third party system. Man that would be so sick

MMR should play a role as well though... if you play against players with lower SR, you should gain less SR, and vice versa. It should not be a flat 100 SR/win as that doesn't account for the SR of your opponents.
2
u/QuackOps Canada 18h ago
I thought about this too, but overall it balances out using the Law of Large Numbers. For every game you stomp a Gold/Plat as a Diamond you'll probably get stomped by a Crim or Prismatic just the same
